yum repository and createrepo

I've setup a local yum repository for about 25 workstations and I'm using rsync from a local mirror. Do I need to create my own XML headers, i.e. the 'repodata' directory, or since I'm syncing the whole updates directory can I use the 'repodata' directory from the mirror? I also have a question on using createrepo. The directory layout is: ~/updates/ ~/updates/headers/ ~/updates/repodata/ ~/updates/RPMS/ If I do the following in the 'updates' directory: # createrepo -v ./RPMS The 'repodata' diretcory is created under the 'RPMS' directory and not the current 'updates' directory. How can I have the 'repodata' directory created/updated in the correct directory under 'updates'? Right now I'm manually moving the directory. I would probably need to do this in my daily cron job. I just finished going through the time sync problem, and here's the info I used: To configure ESX 2.5.x Server: http://tinyurl.com/ycpcfv To configure Windows Guest OS: http://tinyurl.com/yctxrr To configure CentOS w/o X installed, you still need to install the vmware tools. Edit the vmx file for your guest, tools.syncTime="TRUE". In grub.conf, add clock=pmtmr as a kernel option. You'll need to shutdown the guest OS, reload the vmx file, then restart the system. If you have X running, then you can use the vmware tools much like windows to configure time sync with the host system. HTH Mark

However, since the OS is installed on these arrays, I don't know if this is due to the drives or some OS setting. I have also taken one spare drive of each type and tested each one as a single-drive unit in both systems. usb stopped working

Warning of protential probs with 2.6.9-42.0.3.EL update

Not sure yet what or where the problems are but having just done a jum update on my HP laptop (nw8240) and my IBM desktop from 2.6.9.42.0.2.EL the laptop is locking up during boot sequence and the desktop when running VMware Workstation seems to take all CPU and makes strange noises from the loudspeaker. Using grub to fall back to last kernel all is ok again !!. Ian

ERROR 1045 (28000) when trying to login into the mysql through user test1

hey friends, I am running Mysql server version: 4.1.20 on Centos 4.0. USB multi-card reader working, finally took the time

A thread on multi-cards 2 months ago, gave me a hint on how to get usb multi-card readers working: Quoting "J.J. That's the way I was doing it so far, and it always worked for me. " So I then had to learn how to rebuild initrd image. Turns out that is mkinitrd (duh :-[ ). So I added to my /etc/modprobe.conf: options scsi_mod max_luns=8 Then: mkinitrd -v --image-version .... edited /boot/grub/grub.conf to use this new initrd, and now my MP3 players with internal and external SD cards are working properly. I am ASSuMing that once modprobe.conf is altered, as I get new kernels, the change will carry forward, and I will not have to do my own mkinitrd? I base this on my recent update to 42.0.3 and a new initrd file.
