CentOS 4.4 ia64?

Greetings list, I had a quick spin through the archives and don't see any discussion on this question: Is there a reason why the ia64 download directories for v4.4 are populated with links to 4.3? (And why the torrent files for v4.3 ia64 don't work?) Now, instead of the symptom, I'll describe my actual problem. Has anyone successfully installed CentOS (any flavor, although I prefer ia64 and stock) on a Sun Microsystems X2200 server? The 4.2 ia64 installer I have detects neither the SATA controller nor the updated network controller. Thank you for your time! -- David.Mackintosh(a)xdroop.com

installing gvcs package and libgtk error

I installed a gcvs package today. I tried to then run gcvs and I get this error: gcvs: error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory rpm -qa | grep libgtk returns nothing. yum install libgtk returns Nothing to do. What am I missing? Jerry

Yum, duplicate packages, 4.3->4.4 upgrade.

Hi, I am running a CentOS 4.3 machine. I wish to move on to 4.4. My problem is that I have some 60 duplicate packages listed below. The kernel and gpg-pubkey packages are different versions of the same (none for the gpg) architecture. All the rest are a x86_64 and i[356]86 pairs. 1. Is this a problem? 2. If yes, what should I do? a) remove the duplicates (the i[356]86) and then 4.3 -> 4.4? b) 4.3 -> 4.4 and only after that remove duplicates? c) something else? 3. How to actually do the removal? Simply 'yum remove ...' or are there some packages that require special care? 4. I have enabled the dries, kbsingh, and rpmforge, repositories for few packages (acroread, pine,...). However, I didn't keep track which packages come from those repos so I can't apply the 'includepkgs' instruction on them. What's the easiest way to recover that information? (Default 'yum list installed' doesn't provide the repository.) Actually, the hardware initialization where I'm seeing the problem happens in /etc/rc.sysinit. I have added an extra debugging line in there to show the names of all of the misc devices that it loads after audio. One of them is apparently the problem, but I haven't been able to reproduce the problem since then, so I'm not sure exactly which one. Probably, I must admit that I haven't got a minute to get back to that problem. Look for kudzu or discover, read about hwdata. If it's some production system and you are afraid of changes, make a backup copy of some runlevel where runlevel<6 and runlevel>1, copy everything from default runlevel (3) and play with that. NTP and hardware clock

Hi, I had the following problem today. Because of a misconfigured network switch one system suddenly didn't have any network. After a reboot (with the network still unavailable) NTPD refused to start. Most likely because the initial ntpdate failed to work. I find this troubling, because when the network was restored, NTPD could have resumed working (like I'd expect from a true daemon). Now, what was more peculiar was that the hardware clock was completely off. I also had assumed that somehow the hardware clock was kept in sync, but now after rebooting without network, the system clock was skewed. Is there some way to: + Make ntpd run, even when no ntp-server could be contacted + Make ntpd synchronise the hardware clock automatically PS Yes, I know I can run ntpdate from cron or run hwclock to synchronize my hardware clock. But shouldn't this be part of the infrastructure (either ntpd or the initscripts) ? mbox corruption

Running CentOS 4.4, Sendmail... I've been experiencing some mbox corruption this week. Mail clients can't pick up mail and SquirrelMail gives an error.. of which the logs state "File isn't in mbox format". Is anybody else experiencing this? Any ideas about a correction? Cause? Thanks, John Hinton

Bowie, I had the same problem yesterday on my laptop with SIS5513 chipset. I've tried acpi=off and nomodprobe - didn't help I will come back to that problem when I will have time, but what I will do is disabling hardware initialization in default init level, and then I will try to play with audio module manually. You might do the same... Boot up from some live cd ubuntu works fine (I'm running it on the same laptop right now) and change init scripts. mpeg4ip (from Dag) vs CentOS 4.4 64-bit?

Anyone else on the list using these tools? I grabbed the latest iteration using yum from Dag's repository, but I get random segfaults on a fully-patched 4.4 system on dual Opteron 275's from some of the utilities. Perhaps, it's some 64-bit vs 32-bit-ism? I'm not much of a programmer (actually, I'm a terrible programmer) so any suggestions would be very much appreciated. :) The machine has otherwise been bulletproof so I'm reasonably sure it's something fishy with mpeg4ip.
