looking for 4.2 minimal kickstart

Hi I am looking for an example of a kickstart file for a simple, minimal server install. I don't need any graphical apps just ssh, httpd and development tools. It seems that even when I specify only the packages I want many other packages are installed making the install very large. Any links to guides or example kickstart files would be great. Python/sqlite date time problems.

Bear with me, this is CentOS related. :) I have a python CGI that's behaving weirldy on Whitebox systems that've been switched over to CentOS 4 (ages ago, no other problems to speak of aside from this one). I've broken the problem down to a minimal test case... 1. Create a small database # sqlite3 /tmp/testcase.db 'CREATE TABLE testtable ( date date primary key unique, name varchar(32));' # sqlite3 /tmp/testcase.db 'insert into "testtable" values("2006-10-10", "Will");' # sqlite3 /tmp/testcase.db 'insert into "testtable" values("2006-10-11", "Will");' 2. A small Python script to query this database: #!/usr/bin/python import sqlite cx = sqlite.connect('/tmp/testcase.db') cu = cx.cursor() cu.execute("select date from %s where date like '%s' ;" % ('testtable', '2006-10-' + "%")) print cu.fetchall() ## -------------------- END SCRIPT -------------------- ## Now, here's what's confusing me. If I run this on a box that was built from scratch with CentOS I get the following data back... [root@willspc python]# ./testcase.py [('2006-10-10',), ('2006-10-11',)] If I run it on any upgraded Whitebox system I get... [root@devmon1 python]# ./testcase.py [(<DateTime object for '2006-10-10 00:00:00.00' at b7f14138>,), (<DateTime object for '2006-10-11 00:00:00.00' at b7cbfdb0>,)] As far as I can tell, python, sqlite and python-sqlite are all identical. Can anyone shed any light or prod me in the right direction? The Whitebox systems *do* still have a smattering of Whitebox related RPMs... [root@devmon1 python]# rpm -qa | grep white rpmdb-whitebox-4-0.20050504 whitebox-logos-1.1.25-1.WB1 That system did have whitebox-lsb installed too but I've rpm -e'd it and replaced redhat-lsb, haven't rebooted yet but that's next on the agenda. ieee80211.i386 yum repository

I have been attempting to install the ipw2100.1.2.0 driver onto my laptop, but have run into some troubles. It requires IEEE 802.11, which I have downloaded the rpm for from sourceforge. He seems to have found his way through this bit of difficulties thanks to a post on the forum, but I have been unable to find this post. He mentions that he found a way to install it via yum, but that may mean that he installed the package through yum, but didn't download it. If someone could suggest a CentOS friendly repository which contains this package, or some other method of installation, I would appriciate it. Currently I use dag. Moving Mysql data directory denied by selinux?

Hi, I'm trying to move the MySQL data directory to /home/mysql like I have done with every other install I have done before but the difference is this time I am trying to have SELinux active instead of turning it off. I seem to need some help in a) Understanding what the selinux failure messages are saying; and b) How to correct the issue I've read the selinux docs and all I got was a headache *sigh* Now normally I just move /var/lib/mysql to /home/mysql and symlink it. SELinux complains with Oct 10 21:21:59 intspare kernel: audit(1160479319.080:2): avc: denied { read } for pid=15784 comm="mysqld" name="mysql" dev=dm-0 ino=1230340 scontext=root:system_r:mysqld_t tcontext=root:object_r:var_lib_t tclass=lnk_file Ok, I guess it doesnt like following symlinks so instead I edited /etc/my.cnf to [mysqld] datadir=/home/mysql socket=/home/mysql/mysql.sock # Default to using old password format for compatibility with mysql 3.x # clients (those using the mysqlclient10 compatibility package). old_passwords=1 [mysql.server] user=mysql basedir=/home Now SELinux complains with Oct 10 22:04:27 intspare kernel: audit(1160481867.663:2): avc: denied { search } for pid=3073 comm="mysqld" name="/" dev=dm-1 ino=2 scontext=user_u:system_r:mysqld_t tcontext=system_u:object_r:home_root_t tclass=dir WHY is mysqld trying to read / when I told it to use /home/mysql ? BTW, here is the security contexts on /home/mysql # ls -laZ /home/ drwxr-xr-x mysql mysql system_u:object_r:mysqld_db_t mysql Can anyone please shed some light on this for me? Cannot re-make a software raid pair

Apologies if you get this twice - the first one didn't seem to make it... Hi Guys, I have just replaced a faulty Max...woah, wait...this one's a Seagate... IDE hard disk but I cannot remake the software raid pair. The currently running disk is hda and I am trying to add back hdg - both are master drives on separate controllers. I have run fdisk on hdg and created the same partition structure as had and changed their types to 'fd' but when I try and rebuild the array I get: mdadm /dev/md0 -a /dev/hdg1 mdadm: hot add failed for /dev/hdg1: Invalid argument If I look at /var/log/messages, I have: Oct 5 16:04:39 petdoctors kernel: md: could not bd_claim hdg1. Oct 5 16:04:39 petdoctors kernel: md: error, md_import_device() returned -16 >From other postings, this seems to imply the hdg1 partition is mounted but I can find no evidence of this (df or cat /proc/mounts or lsof). I have done sone googling and found others having fun with this but no specific solution. Anyone? Thanks Nigel Kendrick

3.x box - lilo - hosed bootloader

Hi Updated the firmware on a PERC RAID card as it was out of date and causing a monitoring error - Everything went fine but on the reboot the box now tells me it cant find a valid boot device - I am thinking maybe somehow the boot block on the logical disk is shot. Can anyone advise me on how to rebuild the bootloader on lilo using a rescue CD? thanks

whacked keyboard behavior CLI

Hi there --- for some reason I am getting really weird keyboard behavior on the CLI (no xfs or anything running). Centos 4.4 yummed up. For example if i type "root" to login, I get "rot" or sometimes "roooooot". Then other times I will have to press a key like 3 times to get a double character. Now at first I thought maybe it was the keyboard, but it seems to work fine when within gnome. In all honesty I think i just have to get a different keyboard, but wanted to see if anyone had any experience with something like this (before I returned it) and a way to fix for the CLI. I have tried the kbdrate command. The keyboard is a wireless belkin with a usb connection. Thanks in advance. d

Hi, I found the solution for using the 2.6.9-42 kernel with the Intel 3945ABG card.
