Has anybody recompiled Centos' default kernel on x86_64

I haven't been able to recompile Centos' default kernel on 4.2, nor on 4.3 on an x86_64 The process fails with two different problems: 1. 'cannot find -lqt' error 2. offset.h.tmp missing Kind of weird not being able to recompile an integral part of the system on a system which is entirely based on recompilation. Based on second hand reports vanila kernel seems to compile o.k., but I don't want to go vanila if I don't have to.

(OT) i586 kernel

What incantations are used to build vmlzi586 and initi586.img found in the isolinux directory of the CentOS 4.3 DVD? I have an old K6-2 box that runs CentOS 4.3 fine but because of a few features, I'd really prefer to run FC5 on that machine and it won't install -- which is the reason for the (OT) in the subject. I found this blurb in the specs file: ---------------- %define KVERREL %{PACKAGE_VERSION}-%{PACKAGE_RELEASE} # groups of related archs # Added i586 kernel support (CentOS-4) #%define all_x86 i686 %define all_x86 i586 i686 # Override generic defaults with per-arch defaults ------------------ but somehow, that seems like too much magic in a too-small package. There must be a lot more to it!

Using /etc/iproute2/rt_tables

Metamail

Hi all, I'm setting up Hylafax with Centos4.2. Seems like it requires a package called metamail. I visited rpmfind.net but confused which package should I choose. There are one for RH4.2, RHEL AS 2.1. Curiously, there's none for FC. Dante Socks server

Hi, I am running centos server 4.2 and I have installed dante-server socks proxy I yumed it off a dag repo. The problem I am having is configuring it. I have edited the sockd.conf file but it still tells me that I don't have an internal address setup. Does anyone have any suggestions. am I editing the wrong config file. if I do a locate sock*.conf I get the following list /etc/sockd.conf (this one was created by webmin plugin I downloaded for editing dante) /user/share/doc/dante-server-1.1.18/sockd.conf (this is the one I edited) /etc/socks.conf /user/share/doc/dante-1.0.18/socks.conf If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Kernel RPM

Hi All, I have mailed same problem before also . I want to make the rpm for the kernel . so i took kernel source of bz2 format . IAfter unzipping i applied the following commands, make menuconfig and make rpm. So it created the RPM for kernel . But it's not updating the grub.conf and also not creating the initrd.img. After installing the rpm ,i have manually create the initrd.img and and changed the grub.conf . I want to know some informations like when the initrd.img creates ?? Can anyone knows how it can changed ?? Thanks in advance Regards juliet

Has anyone been able to get plesk to work on Centos?
