CentOS 4.0 compatible with Dell's OpenManage?

Hi, I'm looking into purchasing a few Dell Servers and installing it with CentOS 4.1. It comes with this software called the the Dell OpenManage Software Kit for PowerEdge that allows for remote monitoring of the servers. Has anyone out there successfully installed the OpenManage s/ware? Is it compatible with CentOS 4.1? Any opinions / feedback is welcome. Thanks. Best Regards, Andrew

FS problems on Centos4 LVM

I was creating some directories (mkdir xxxx) while cd'ed to a mounted LV. What's the Linux equivelant of an exe file?

This is one of those questions that seems to be soo obvious to people that no one feels the need to have an explanation anywhere. I've been looking around the net for ages, and I can't figure out what, on Linux, is actually a program. I've downloaded OpenOffice 1.9 Beta, and would like to run it. I go to the /opt/openoffice.org1.9.122/program/ directory and... then what? What do I run to start the thing? I've hunted around with ls, and I thought bin files were the thing, but they don't seem to run. I'm trying to run the program, associate the program with .ods files, and get some icons in my task bar. But I can't do any of those if I don't know what is actually the program. Help? Dave

sendmail refusing incoming connections from outside

Hello. I am scratching my head about sendmail for a simple thing: I have a CentOS 4 box on which I would like to receive e-mails. when I type 'telnet localhost 25' I can connect successfully to the sendmail service. Now if I type: 'telnet 192.168.0.30 25' on the same host the connection is refused. It also refuses connections from another host. I have edited the /etc/mail/access file and added: 192.168 OK But this doesn't help after a restart. Does somebody know why the connection is refused ? I can see that behaviour on several CentOS box I have so it seems to be the new default. What parameter should I change to make it be accepted ? Thank you, Daniel

Hi, I have CentOS4.1 up to date and I get on boot: ipw2200: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection divert: allocating divert_blk for eth1 ipw2200: ipw-2.2-boot.fw load failed: Reason -2 ipw2200: Unable to load firmware: 0xFFFFFFFE divert: freeing divert_blk for eth1 ipw2200: failed to register network device ipw2200: probe of 0000:03:03.0 failed with error -5 My understanding from RedHat is that the current update includes ipw2200 v1.0.4. SMTP auth with Sendmail

Dear All, I have two machines, a Centos 3.4 machine and a Centos 4.1 machine. I have used the same sendmail.mc file on each, and 3.4 machine does plain SMTP auth with no problems, compiling the same mc file on the 4.1 machine gives this error: xxxxx [x.x.x.x] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA in the logs, it doesn't even try to authenticate, the cyrus sasl rpm is installed for auth PLAIN It reports this from the EHLO so all looks good: 250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES 250-PIPELINING 250-8BITMIME 250-SIZE 250-DSN 250-ETRN 250-AUTH DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5 LOGIN PLAIN 250-DELIVERBY 250 HELP The 3.4 box reports this: 250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES 250-PIPELINING 250-8BITMIME 250-SIZE 250-DSN 250-ETRN 250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN 250-DELIVERBY 250 HELP Any help would be greatly appreciated.... OT: cheap DVD-RAM media?

A bit off-topic. Not a question on how to get it working, but rather question about an practical issue after you get it to work ;-) I got a DVD burner that supports DVD-RAM (in addition to standard DVD+R/-R). I really liked "use it just like hard disk" properties of DVD-RAM, and according to some sources I found, the media itself is more resistant to ageing than standard DVD+R/-R. Great for archiving my data. But the media seems to be quite expensive. I guess mostly because all the places I found were selling it in most expensive option: as single disc in a nice (and useless) case. Haven't found a single place that sells them on spindle. At the end, I ended up buying a 3-pack, with each media in bulky movie-type case (what a waste of space). Does anybody know of any place that sells DVD-RAM media cheap (in bulk, on spindle)? Recommended hardware for a firewall/router?

Not really a CentOS specific question, but I hope it's ok... I've decided to buy a server to use as a firewall/router instead of the usual Cisco box, simply because I've come to love Firewall Builder and would like to put all my subnets into one firewall. There will be four gigabit interfaces in the box, one of which will be the internet connection (so this one interface will use max. 10 mbit). Question is if any "normal" hardware will be able to handle this if most of the interfaces gets saturated? What chipset / motherboard should I go for? On a sidenote, I've noticed from the subject on some of the most recent messages that Bryans beeing hassled. I dunno what it's really about since I haven't read the messages, but I'd like to say that I consider Bryan to be a valuable asset to this list. Regards, Harald
