Future of CentOS 8 on armhfp?

I have been using the CentOS 8 image on a few 32-bit ARM devices (Zynq 7000 and Raspberry Pi 4) for several months with a lot of success. For my use case, I have to create some custom kernels and bootloaders to support my custom hardware for Zynq, but I leverage the CentOS 8 userland. In any case, I was wondering what the plans were for CentOS 8 on armhfp and what kind of help you might need to help get CentOS 8 for armhfp as well supported as it is for CentOS 7? I also use CentOS 7 for some projects, but I would like to transition to CentOS 8 to leverage the longer potential support cycle and the newer packages and technologies. Lastly, what is the best way to report CentOS 8 on armhfp bugs? Is it better to report that here or at https://bugs.centos.org ? Thanks for all of your hard work on CentOS for armhfp! Paul

Marvell MVPP2 NIC support

Hi, After installing Centos8.2 on Marvell CN9132 based platform I noticed that compared to altarch7-aarch64 support the Marvell MVPP2 NIC support was dropped. In order to enable it we would need to add CONFIG_ARCH_MVEBU=y CONFIG_MVPP2=m to the SOURCES/kernel-aarch64.config & SOURCES/kernel-aarch64-debug.config What are the steps to achieve that? Centos altarch7 had a described procedure for submitting the kernel patches, but that seems to be changed in the new distro version. Best regards, Marcin

Hello together, I've running my pihole-server on Odroid HC1 with CentOS 8. CentOS Linux release 8.1.1911 (AltArch, armv7hl). Last Package update was 2020-04-07. No update till today? Thanks Andreas

centos 7 64 bit on raspberry Pi 3

Hello, I was wondering if there is a procedure for installing Centos 7 on the Raspberry Pi 3 B+ while installing Centos 7.5 on armhfp is very clear and documented given that a raw root image is provided and you just "dd" it on the memory card, it is not clear to me how to do it with aarch64. A ISO image is provided but how to install it on the raspberry ? thank you Rick

epel-release and elrepo-release availability for centos armv7?

I have an Rpi 3B that I just installed Centos7 on today and had a couple questions: * Is CentOS 8 available yet for this device? What's the general state of support for Raspbery Pis and CentOS 8 currently? * I'd like to setup wireguard, and normally that requires using epel-release and elrepo-release, which contain "kmod-wireguard" and "wireguard-tools" packages. It doesn't seem like I can install the epel-release repo, so I'm not sure where I can source these? What's my best option? Thank you. GN

Relative Performance Between MP30-AR1 and SynQuacer

Does anyone have any details on the relative performance of the MP30-AR0/AR1 and the Linaro 96boards SynQuacer? I cannot find anything directly comparable, particularly in terms of general compile performance. MP30-AR1: 8x 2.4GHz cores SynQuacer: 24x 1GHz cores On the fact of it, the SynQuacer might provide up to about a 20% performance improvement on a heavily parallelizable task, but the MP30-AR1 would beat it by a significant margin on any workload that isn't heavily parallelizable. As far as I can tell, the performance per clock on both seems to be fairly similar. Has anyone got any directly comparable performance numbers, e.g. "make allmodconfig && make -j" on a kernel?

AES / SSH Performance on aarch64

I'm finding that ssh on my Gigabyte MP30-AR1 is rather slow, presumably because there are no AES instructions or mitigating optimisations for AES. Is NEON AES implemented in OpenSSL / OpenSSH package builds on EL8 on aarch64? All of the old ciphers that were faster (e.g. arcfour) have long been removed from OpenSSH, so does anyone have any other tricks for getting more out of ssh on aarch64? I'm specifically looking for an ssh optimisation here, I'm hoping to avoid implementing a bypass hack in the workflow (e.g. setting up netcat over ssh and using that for transfers). Many thanks. Ok, I see this epel-release in the epel1 repo that I installed via the wiki. So I decide to install it, and it created an epel.repo.rpmnew file. I swicth around the files and try a 'yum update' and get: epel/armhfp/metalink | 47 kB 00:00 Could not parse metalink https://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/metalink?repo=epel-7&arch=armhfp error was No repomd file One of the configured repositories failed (Unknown), and yum doesn't have enough cached data to continue. At this point the only safe thing yum can do is fail. There are a few ways to work "fix" this: .... File /var/cache/yum/armhfp/7/epel/metalink.xml does not exist So I put everything back.

MP30-AR0/AR1 - Tianocore Firmware

In my ongoing quest to get my MP30-AR0 to not choke on most PCIe cards I finally (yes, I know, years late, but I stopped being able to make do without adding things into the machine), flashed the firmware on it from u-boot to AMI, thus turning it into an MP30-AR1. I was originally intending to flash it with Tianocore, but the download links for that firmware all point to dropbox, and that link is dead. Does anyone have the tianocore firmware for the MP30-AR0 that they could kindly repost? I was originally chain-loading Tianocore from u-boot, and that could have been upsetting something that made RH kernels comprehensively and consistently crash. Interestingly, my locally built mainline kernels have always worked (using 4.9.x branch) without even needing acpi=off. It looks like the Tianocore image I need for flashing to the board may not be the same as the chainloading firmware, so I wanted to make sure I have the exact right firmware image to avoid the risk of bricking it. FYI, flashing the AR1 firmware via the BMC "just works". Anyway, the AMI firmware (AR1) seems to cure some of the problems. I can now have additional PCIe cards in the machine without this causing an insta-crash as soon as the driver for the card loads (Marvell SATA and SAS controllers, Silicon Image SATA controllers, 3ware SAS controllers, it all ends the same way, with an insta-crash when the driver loads). The reason why I want to try Tianocore firmware instead are the following: 1) This looks scary at boot time: SecBoot-0, SecMode-1, DefaultProvision-0, BackDoorVendorKeyChange-0 2) AMI UEFI firmware takes about 5 minutes (no, not an exaggeration) to get from power-on to showing the grub boot menu. If it wasn't for the serial console, I would have written the board off as bricked by the firmware update. So - anyone happen to have the Tianocore firmware for the MP30-AR0 that they wouldn't mind reposting somewhere? Many thanks. Gordan
