Installing Parallel Zip 250 on 4.4

I am trying to install a Zip 250 drive on CentOS 4.4 but the detect hardware at boot up is not finding it. I am not sure where to start as normally hardware is installed at the initial install or it auto detects on boot. Any help would be appreciated.

Adduser help

at http://wiki.openpbx.org/tiki-index.php?page=Easy+route+to+building+OpenPBX.… there is the following adduser command: adduser --no-create-home --ingroup openpbx --disabled-password --disabled-login openpbx This does NOT seem to be the right format for Centos. So far, using man, I have come up with; adduser -M -g openpbx What else do I need?

[CentOS] imap problems; error accessing inbox and some other folders

Hello all, First off, please let me apologize for cross posting this in both the fedora and centos lists. I have just run into a problem with imap that's becoming a real issue. About two or three days ago some of the mail folders became unusable/unreadable. For instance, my inbox shows 41 unread messages when I access it through pine on the server. But if I imap into it from evolution it shows only one unread message. I tried thunderbird and kmail as well as squirrelmail and these gave some variation of this kind of error message: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: Invalid messageset: -2147483648:*. --------------------------- OR ------------------------------------------ The server couldn't find the message you requested. Most probably your message list was out of date and the message has been moved away or deleted (perhaps by another program accessing the same mailbox). ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I tried rebuilding the imap directories under each app as well as moving/renaming the .imap dir under $HOME/mail but to no avail. The pertinent info is - Server ====== CentOS 4.4 dovecot-0.99.11-4.EL4 squirrelmail-1.4.8-4.el4.centos sendmail-8.13.1-3.RHEL4.5 pine-4.64-1.2.el4.rf Client ====== FC5 evolution-2.6.3-1.fc5.5.sam.1 thunderbird-1.5.0.10-1.fc5 kmail 1.9.5 (from KDE: 3.5.5-0.2.fc5 Fedora-Core) If there is any more info needed let me know and I'll post it. Amd-v which processor for virtualization

I am wanting to play with the amd-v virtualization processor and centos. I was just looking at an AMD6000+ CPU but did not find any mention of it have the AMD-V instructions. What AMD processors support AMD-V instructions? Jerry

Hi, I've met trouble when I attempt to create a VPN between my PC and my lan in my home. The structure of my network structure is illustrated in the attachment. First, I have no idea about how to configure the /etc/setkey.conf file. Because the two port on the Internet are both with dynamic IP. How do I specify the "add" statements for sad and "spd" statements? I've try to add sad entry like this: add 192.168.0.250 anonymous ah 0x200 -A hmac-sha2-256 0x7d5555f0355edabbb2e6e9a9c2d0ece421adbfaf94e953fe807e34ab22501d7c; But I got "Name or service not known at [ah]" error message after I run the command "/sbin/setkey -f /etc/setkey.conf". I doubt if it is possible to create a VPN with such network structure. I've read many articles about ipsec-tools over NAT-T, but all these articles assume that the ip address of the NAT gateway is static. Thanks, Enliang.

using true UTC timezone everywhere

One problem with the daylight savings is that they mess with reporting tools that use timestamps. I guess an application could be configured to log UTC instead of local time, but that's not always doable. Also, if you have servers in several different timezones, it's better if all systems follow the same clock. So, I'm thinking it's perhaps better if I just use ZONE="UTC" on all systems. These are the steps I can think of so far: - make sure the BIOS clock is set to UTC - run timeconfig and make sure "System Clock uses UTC" is checked - cp /usr/share/zoneinfo/UTC /etc/localtime - edit /etc/sysconfig/clock and set ZONE="UTC" - reboot Voila - instant UTC clock. Never need to worry about daylight savings again. Anybody can think of any problems with: - the procedure I described? - the simple fact of using the "true" UTC timezone? -- Florin Andrei http://florin.myip.org/

rsh with passwords

I am doing rsync over a private network. Encryption is not required. Currently rsync over ssh works, but requires too many CPU cycles (especially when doing a lot of transfers) on a CPU-bound system. I need to use rsh instead. The problem is, I can either set rsh to allow transfers without a password, or it won't let me transfer files at all. I need rsh to ask for a password. The network may be private (I don't worry about sniffers) but still I'm not OK with giving the rsync client a blank check and allow it to connect without a password. I tried to make various modifications to /etc/pam.d/rsh but I can't convince rshd to require a password. I searched the Web for a solution, but everyone seems to be in the opposite situation (looking to allow rsh to connect without a password, which is trivial). Performance problem with CentOS and XFS on EMC

We have an appliance that uses the CentOS 4.4 Plus kernel with XFS on an EMC RAID array that performs about ¼ or less as well with cached i/o than with direct i/o. With direct i/o we get about 32Mb/s throughput or better, but if we enable the cache for the EMC RAID, we only get 8Mb/s or less. This doesn't happen if we use JFS, where we get a little less than 32Mb/s throughput with or without cache enabled, on the same hardware and CentOS, but there are some features in XFS that we use that are not available in JFS.. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Wireless fails with Netgear MA401 card.
