Possibly a silly question

I just read an article claiming that RHEL5 will be released on March 14th. I was just curious if anyone has heard any more buzz or if this is possibly confirmed: http://www.cbronline.com/article_news.asp?guid=BAA762B7-84F3-48D0-93B1-18CD… Is there going to be any vigorus testing needed to be done to aid in CentOS-5 being released shortly after? ;-) Any benchmark time lapses between the upstream provider and when CentOS-5 might hit the table? or is there anything I/we can do to help? selinux disable but still working

I have some centos 4.4 server. i have disable selinux for some software problem: # cat /etc/selinux/config # This file controls the state of SELinux on the system. # SELINUX= can take one of these three values: # enforcing - SELinux security policy is enforced. # permissive - SELinux prints warnings instead of enforcing. # disabled - SELinux is fully disabled. SELINUX=disable # SELINUXTYPE= type of policy in use. Possible values are: # targeted - Only targeted network daemons are protected. # strict - Full SELinux protection. logrotate, syslog, and chsh

I'm noticing that logrotate's default configuration for rotating /var/ log/secure and /var/log/messages partially fails if root's shell is set to /bin/tcsh (via chsh). (Running on CentOS 4.4; logrotate-3.7.1-5.RHEL4). What seems to be happening is that the logrotate.d/syslog postrotate command runs: /bin/kill -HUP `cat /var/run/syslogd.pid 2> /dev/null` 2> /dev/null || true Under bash, this redirects stderr to /dev/null. Under tcsh, this produces the error: cat: 2: No such file or directory What happens in this scenario is that the log gets rotated, but syslogd does not receive the SIGHUP, so nothing gets logged, at all. (i.e. secure and messages are 0 bytes until syslog is kicked). I'm just going to set the default shell for root back to bash, but I wanted to ask the list if there is any general "rule of thumb" that root's shell should be bash? best, Jeff

RHWAS rebuild efforts

There is a new Web Application Stack that I would like to get the RPMS for into CentOS Plus. I am trying to get the upstream provider to the provide these SRPMS to their public FTP server, but so far they are not there: https://www.redhat.com/archives/nahant-list/2006-October/msg00053.html These RPMS would be a major add to CentOSPlus .... as they would provide an enterprise web stack with update support. I am just not sure if or when the source is going to be released. So, that being said, I am looking for a way that the CentOS team can have access to those SRPMS to build this for the CentOS community. The way would be to have someone donate a RHWAS license to the CentOS Project. The CentOS Project does not charge for our product and our only revenue stream is donations. If someone donated a license to the project, we could access the files and build RPMS for all the files that are redistributable. If the SRPMS are later added to the public FTP server, the license would not need to be renewed. If someone is interested in providing this license, I can be contacted off list concerning this matter. Thanks, Johnny Hughes

php5 rpm to be installed in parallel with php4?

Hi, I'm looking for a php5 rpm which I can install in parallel with php4. Therefore, the centosplus rpm is (AFAIK) not usable for me as it replaces php4. Does centos provide an php5 rpm which does not touch my php4? Is there a matching srpm on web? Sorry, if this question is a FAQ. Thanks for your help :) fs

LDAP Server configs

Yum transaction checck error (x86_64)

CentOS & SATA
