unexpected mass closing of terminal windows

Hello, I apologize if this isn't quite the right spot to ask, but I did some googling on fc6, rhel5, centos5, terminal closings, etc and came up blank. Three times since I installed CentOS5 on this machine (11 days ago), I have had ***all my my terminal windows spontaneously exit***. For example: just now, I have a CD playing, firefox open with a few tabs, and emacs open. I also had ~5 terminal windows open, one for email and four for work. While typing an email on a remote machine in pine, *all* of my terminal windows exited. Just plain disappeared. Everything else, including the emacs copy started from one of those terminals, is running fine. It's a frustrating thing to see happen! Has anyone else experienced this? This is in the gnome desktop, x86-64 install, all the latest updates from yum. The machine is a nforce3 board with 1 gig of ram, Athlon64, sata drive, and NFS mounted home directories. Thanks, Brian

kernel source kernel-devel-smp-2.6.9-42.0.3.EL RPM

Dear list, for the purpose of installing a qlogic driver into my system, I need the exact kernel source version mentioned above. The kernel version is a dependency for the cluster suite (for centos4) package, which has been installed using yum (yum install cman gfs [...]). Where can I get the kernel source for this exact version? The only one which is offered to me by yum is version 2.6.9-42.0.10, which I could re-link of course with /usr/src/linux-2.6, but isn't there a nicer way? is asking thankfully Sebastian

How to get arcnet working with other-than-root accounts?

Hello! I've successfully gotten the arcnet driver compiled and installed into a Centos kernel. Admittedly, with a lot of help. Currently, I'm using the following script to get arcnet up and running: cd /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/kernel-2.6.9/linux-2.6.9/drivers/net/arcnet insmod arcnet.ko insmod arc-rawmode.ko insmod com20020.ko insmod com20020-pci.ko node=3 device=arc0 timeout=3 backplane=0 clockp=0 clockm=0 insmod rfc1201.ko ifconfig arc0 up The raw-recv and raw-send examples now work after this, but only when run as root. When run as a regular user, I get: socket: Operation not permitted So: what can I do to remove that root-only restriction? Thank you! Chip Campbell

Default printer environment variable

Hello All, I'm trying to get the iSeries Access for Linux client (IBM 5250 emulator) working on a CentOS 4.4 system. The client is mostly working - it connects to the remote AS/400, the custom keymap I created is recognized, etc. The only problem is printing to a local printer. The docs for the client state that it reads the default printer environment variable to figure out which printer to print to on the local side. What's the default printer environment variable? $PRINTER? I'm lost on this one since I've never had to set it before. I know that I can create a ~/.lpoptions file and put the default printer in there, but that's not going to work with this IBM 5250 emulator. Any tips/help appreciated. network config files in centos 5 changing

What is happening in centos 5 with network config files??? I have a machine with 2 network cards. ifcfg-eth1 keeps changing to DHCP. All my static setup is gone. Why is it doing this? How can I stop it? I run "netconfig -d eth1" and re-setup my static information. I reboot and now I am back to DHCP. I have a gigabyte motherboard, nvidia chipset. forcedeth driver. eth0 is e1000. I installed 2.6.20.7 copied /boot/config{something} to .config make oldconfig make oldconfig make menuconfig - turned on drivers -> Sata -> nvidia make bzImage make modules make modules_install make install rebooted. Seems like the issue I had with forcedeth (nvidia) bad MAC address is gone. However, the iptables gives errors. Where in the menu tree do I enable what iptables needs??? I have looked around in there and did not see it. Thanks, (I know I'm not compatible now... :) Jerry

kernel 2.6.21 on centos 5

I have a computer that I needed to put 2.6.21 on. Everything is working fine after recompile except when iptables is starting up it errors with iptables-restore: line 23 failed. This is the normal centos 5 iptables. nothing special. What might I be missing in the new kernel that I get this error? Thanks, The file is below. [CentOS 5] - SAMBA+LDAP

Hi! I´m have some problems deploying OPENLDAP+SAMBA+PAM+NSSWITCH. When I restart the server with those services, the DBUS service crash. And when I try disable DBUS service on system start Avahi crashs too. Someone here have this problem? There´s a BUG on CentOS 5? Maybe PAM not talking with LDAP on startup? I can send some logfile and my system-auth setup. Hello, Maybe someone will run into the same problem, so here is how it works for me. I could not get work my wlan card (ralink rt61) with the driver from rt2x00.serialmonkey.com under CentOS 5 (2.6.18-8.1.1.el5). All drivers (beta and daily cvs) from this site freezes my system. So I get the driver from the Ralink support at http://www.ralinktech.com/ralink/Home/Support/Linux.html (RT2501PCI/mPCI/CB(RT2561/RT2661)). With this driver, my wlan card works very well (WPA2, AES). CentOS 5 is great. regards Olaf

Xen guest and samba

Hello, I am new to this list, but having been using CentOS for sometime. I recently installed CentOS 5 on a test server to check out Xen. The installation was smooth had so far I have everything working except I cannot get samba to join our AD domain from the xen guest, using para-virtualization, I setup. I am out of ideas, and cannot find anyone having similar problems. I have tested my config files on the server itself (Dom0) and it joins fine. But on the guest it will not join. kinit works and I do get a ticket from kerberos. But when I try to join I get: # net ads join -U administrator administrator's password: Using short domain name -- ICN Failed to set servicePrincipalNames. Please ensure that the DNS domain of this server matches the AD domain, Or rejoin with using Domain Admin credentials. Disabled account for 'XEN01' in realm 'ICN.LOCAL' In messages, I have: Apr 25 10:36:02 xen01 winbindd[29659]: [2007/04/25 10:36:02, 0] libads/kerberos.c:ads_kinit_password(208) Apr 25 10:36:02 xen01 winbindd[29659]: kerberos_kinit_password XEN01$(a)ICN.LOCAL failed: Clients credentials have been revoked Apr 25 10:36:34 xen01 pcscd: winscard.c:219:SCardConnect() Reader E-Gate 0 0 Not Found The hosts, resolv.conf, smb.conf and krb5.conf files are the same between the guest and Dom0 and are using the same version of samba. Selinux has been disabled in order to make sure it was not interfering. Has anyone had this issue or successfully able to join to a domain from a guest? Thanks, Rick
