Update Centos-4.4 to centos-5 spents a lot of time in "restorecon"

Hi, having running centOS-4.4 on a really fast machine (16 GB memory, 8 Opteron CPU's, SATA drives). Then making an update by using the Centos-5 CD's. The start was fast, but during update, the installer spents a very, very long wallclock time during selinx updating: for about 1/2 hour the updater runs in a restorecon/find sequence. And at the end, before the MBR is written, it spents again a long time in "install". Can somebody explain this? Centos 5 -- Bind not

Well, I just did my 2nd install. (Now doing the updates via yumex and stepping into the updates instead of risking doing it all at once.) I selected every bind related package, and then ran the BIND configuration GUI in System>Adminstration>Server Settings. Things seem to work. So I uninstalled and reinstalled on my new DNS server and it looks like I can proceed on the install.

XVideo vs OpenGL

Hi, I have a Pentium III PC with NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT on an AGP 8x and am running NVIDIA driver 9755 on CentOS 5.0 x86. What is the most efficient playback method for the various players, XVideo or OpenGL? RealPlayer has a "Use XVideo" tick box under the "Hardware" tab preselected, while MPlayer uses xv - X11/Xv, gl - X11(OpenGL) and other Video drivers. What is the most efficient between the two, given the configuration?

URGENT: Skip installation ix86 packages from kickstart on 64bit arch?

Hi, Has any one know how to skip ix86 packages from installation in Centos kickstart? Most of our machines have 64bit Intel/AMD CPUs, and it make non-sense to still keep 32bit compatibility. Even worse of i*86 packages is, when upgrade we have to recompile both ix86 version and x86_64 version to get an automatic yum upgrade. I know we could use 'exclude' option to exclude i*86 packages from yum calculation/upgrade; But, if this can be extended to kickstart? Centos5 installer hangs up with promise sata controller on board

Hi, curently running centos4.4 with a board having promise sata controller. If I try to update to centos-5, the installer hangs up. No problems under centos-4.4. Does somebody know a workaround for this problem? In the mailing list archives I found a similar report, but no solution. CentOS 5 x86: Hibernate

OS: CentOS 5 x86. Has anyone tried hibernation under CentOS 5 x86 on a *non-virtual* machine? I tried it on my PIII and it had some kind of hibernation/resume failure. The screen went standby during hibernation and resume, and I hardware reseted the system.

Hiding PCI devices from Dom0 on Centos5

I'm trying to hide my PRV-350 PCI card from Dom0 so that a DomU can see it. >From Dom0, the card reports as: [root@willamette ~]# lspci |grep 06:02 06:02.0 Multimedia video controller: Internext Compression Inc iTVC15 MPEG-2 Encoder (rev 01) The ivtv driver isn't installed on Dom0. I have added the following to /etc/modprobe.conf on Dom0: options pciback hide=(0000:06:02.0) but the card still shows up. Is PCI backend/frontend support compiled in the Centos5 xen kernels? Centos 5 Reproducible Reboot

Guys, I've just setup 5.0 and can reproduce a crash/reboot every time. Details; x86_64 Install Using Xen Kernel System fully updated including Xen Kernel (latest 1.1 update) Intel Dual Core E6400 4gb RAM I've installed vmware server 1.0.2 from rpm. It has been configured and is ready to create new machines. I have successfully created a new machine but when I attempt to power-on the system resets. No panic information, just straight to the BIOS. I've searched bugzilla and there appears to be nothing related. I'll do some more testing tomorrow, I'll try without the Xen-ified kernel.
