Kernel independent DRBD packages for RHEL, CentOS and Scientific Linux

Hi, I would like to announce a set of DRBD kABI-tracking kernel module packages for RHEL5, CentOS-5 and Scientific Linux 5 kernels. These packages have been introduced into the ELRepo testing repository (http://elrepo.org/). You can find these packages at: http://elrepo.org/linux/testing/el5/ The ELRepo project is a community project providing various additional kernel modules for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and derivative kernels that aim to be kernel independent. Next to this set of DRBD 8.3.8 kernel modules the project provides dozens of kmod RPM packages and hundreds of kernel modules for a variety of hardware and kernel functionality. In this case we are looking for DRBD users willing to test these packages and provide feedback and support in our support channels for future users. In case there is interest, we can provide drbd 8.0.16 packages on request. I'm trying to do an update to some servers... and they have both i386 and x86_64 perl. The latter won't update, because the idiotic *man pages* are dups. Is there *any* way, short of using rpm directly with a --force, to get yum to ignore the dups and do the update? And why does *anyone* make it so that a dup manpage is a reason to fail (and don't tell me they do it generically for any of the packages in the .rpm...)? mark

cyrus-imapd, sendmail and delivering plus address formats

CentOS-4.8 cyrus-imapd-2.2.12-10 sendmail-8.13.1-3.3 I have a mail hub which uses cyrus-imap with sendmail It has worked well for us on this and prior hosts going back to 1995. And, I do not have a problem with the current setup. What I would like to do however, is to deliver plus-formatted e-mail addresses directly to users subfolders in their mailbox tree. Such addresses take the form userid+subfolder+sub-subfolder(a)domainname.tld. How this is done I have not discovered. What I always get is an ".Address Unknown" smtp error. I have gone to both the cyrus and the sendmail lists respecting this issue. While there is a lot of information there following any of it does not seem to lead me anywhere fruitful. Does anyone here run a sendmail/cyrus-imap combination on CentOS that has direct delivery into user mailbox subfolders using the plus address format working? Remote X connection to CentOS 5.5 using Xming -ac

Hello, I've rented a dedicated root server (SR7 at strato.de) and would like to run qemu at it, but get the error: # qemu -hda install.img -cdrom install47.iso -boot d Could not initialize SDL - exiting It seems that I have to establish X connection, so I've installed Xming at my WinXP laptop and at the server I have changed these 3 lines in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config: X11Forwarding yes X11DisplayOffset 10 X11UseLocalhost yes And also I have installed these Xorg packages: # rpm -qa | grep -i xorg xorg-x11-utils-7.1-2.fc6 xorg-x11-drv-evdev-1.0.0.5-5.el5 xorg-x11-drv-vesa-1.3.0-8.2.el5 xorg-x11-filesystem-7.1-2.fc6 xorg-x11-font-utils-7.1-2 xorg-x11-server-utils-7.1-4.fc6 xorg-x11-xkb-utils-1.0.2-2.1 xorg-x11-xfs-1.0.2-4 xorg-x11-fonts-base-7.1-2.1.el5 xorg-x11-drv-keyboard-1.1.0-3 xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.1.1-48.76.el5_5.1 xorg-x11-drv-mouse-1.1.1-1.1 xorg-x11-drv-void-1.1.0-3.1 Then I've restarted the server and run PuTTY to connect to it, where I have checked the Connection->SSH->X11->Enable X11 forwarding (Sorry for mentioning all this Windows stuff, but I don't have a Unix desktop and also the problem seems to be in the CentOS config) When I connect to the CentOS machine, the DISPLAY variable isn't set at all. Shouldn't SSH set it to localhost:10.0 ? I try to set DISPLAY manually to localhost:10.0 and my_ip_address:0.0 and I have tried connecting as root and as a non-root user. rpm - diff and patch updating

I am attempting to create a rpm of the latest version of a program. The rpm for the previous version contains a number of patch files that make numerous changes various files in the tar.gz as downloaded from the project's website so it will work properly on Linux. The latest version of the program has changed enough stuff that some of the patches now fail to apply. "1 out of 1 hunk FAILED" and so on. Upon comparing the previous version's files to the latest version, I see that the problem is that some of the files that need to be patched have had some stuff moved around a bit, just enough to (apparently) cause patch to fail. By way of experimentation, I manually changed one of the files in the new version to match what the patch says it should be, then created a new patch file from that and it applies and appears to work fine. (I patched the previous version's file, compared the result to the original and made the same change in the new version's file.) This method seems to work fine when the change is only one or two lines, but some of the patches are somewhat more involved than that. It seems to me that there may be an automated way to handle this matter by somehow patching a into b, then compare a and b and make corresponding changes in c. Basically the same process that I just tried manually on a small patch file, without all of the labour and chance of a screw-up that would be involved in manually comparing the old files and rewriting the new file. I have two questions: First, am I going about this the right way? And if so, is there a way to automate the process as described in the previous paragraph? Second, what is the proper convention for handling this in a rpm? The obvious solution seems to be to create new patch files and throw the old ones away, then build the rpm from that. Some of these patches appear to go back several versions, though, so is there a better or more proper way to handle this than just throwing them out and making a whole new set of patches? I'm getting the following dependency problem. Please advise how to resolve. Running 5.5 with latest kernel and all updates. Disable sendmail and configure mailx to use an external Postfix server?

how to set up pam_oddjob_mkhomedir (samba and ldap)?

Hi, I do have a samba server up and running and users are authenticated by ldap. Login to the samba server works as long as the user has a home directory. Now if I create a new ldap entry for an user I'd like to use pam_oddjob_mkhomedir to create a home directory if it dose not exist on login. But something fails on my system. I followed the redhat faq http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-3973 which may be wron according to that bugzilla entry. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=429524 So I added session optional pam_oddjob_mkhomedir.so skel=/etc/skel/ umask=0022 to /etc/pam.d/login using all other default settings and configs using the rpms provided by redhat EL 5.5 / Centos 5.5 rpm -qa|grep oddjob oddjob-0.27-9.el5 oddjob-libs-0.27-9.el5 the services are restarted, there are no errors in the log except from samba, that the login from the user fails because of the missing home directory. IBM ServeRAID M5014 and CentOS 5.5

Hi all, we are about to buy some IBM x3550 M2 servers with ServeRAID M5014 SAS onboard controller. Can anyone confirm that these controllers will work with CentOS 5.5 (seems to be some rebranded LSI controller). I cannot find any hint in the 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5 sources... Regards, Peter
