IPVS support in current kernel

Is the IP Virtual Server available by default in the stock 2.6.18-128.1.14.el5? Or shall I compile my own kernel? I did check "config-2.6.18-128.1.14.el5" yet I am not that sure! :) Usually how long does it take to compile the kernel on a modern machine? I am using CentOS 5.3 32 bit thnx

Thanks for your help Sean, did all the steps you mentioned. One thing I don't understand, when partitions are created, why does Linux number it awkwardly? For example, I created 1 Primary partition of 10% disk, then created 1 Extended partition of 90% disk. Inside that extended partition, I created 3 logical partitions 33% each. It went numbering sdb1, sdb5, sdb6 and sdb7. Where's the hell 2,3 and 4? Anyways, I've got my partitions now and formatted them so, it's all good. Thanks for your help with this. Next, as I went through Bacula's pages, I found that they mostly use tape drives for backup....ugh.......how can I use my usb partitions with Bacula? Any ideas? Thanks again! Cheers :)

External USB Drive partitioning and formatting

Hi, I just bought a Seagate 1TB USB drive thinking that I could create a few partitions in it, format in ext3 fs, then configure bacula to setup a backup server in my CentOS box and backup my windows and mac clients. I have plugged the drive and mounted in /mnt/usbdrive and is seen as /dev/sdb1 by the OS. The output of df command is: [root@Production ~]# df Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 74859680 16053996 55002960 23% / /dev/sda1 101086 27066 68801 29% /boot none 480176 0 480176 0% /dev/shm /dev/sdb1 976760032 97808 976662224 1% /mnt/usbdrive I am thinking of having three partitions instead of just one whole big 1 TB thing, and then format all three partitions in ext3. I tried doing fdisk, but cylinders are always confusing for me. Is there any GUI tool that could help me achieve this as I am newbie to Linux and not very confident with commands. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Bingo! The yum update took care of it. Oddly enough, until I started my new job 2 months ago I'd always been in the habit of running 'yum -y update' first thing after installing Fedora or CentOS. But the product software we develop does not like that very much so I got out of the habit very quickly after blowing up a machine by doing that :-/ Fortunately it was not a production box. But I do recall actually that I'd done it on my desktop at one point shortly after starting. Thanks all! I'm going to probably re-install my own Vista box here at home with Centos 5.3 64 bit, so I'll try the other method on it. Um, maybe something for a whole new thread, but does CentOS support eSATA? My desktop at home here has a port for it, and the USB drive in question does eSATA as well. CentOS 5.3 and NTFS

Aaaaaa, I'm pulling out my hair over here! I have an external USB drive which I had at work, connected just fine to my CentOS 5.3 box. I recall there was some jiggery-pokery involved, but do not recall just what. So now I'm on my wife's freshly installed CentOS 5.3 laptop trying to get it going, and I keep getting errors about FATAL: Module fuse not found. I saw this message from the May archives : http://lists.rpmforge.net/pipermail/users/2009-May/002345.html and this as well http://www.johnson.homelinux.net/mywiki/NTFS but no luck! Minor dovecot/KMail problem

I'm running a dovecot/IMAP server under CentOS-5.3 on my desktop, reading the mail with KMail on my laptop. I have what seems a venerable and well-documented problem/bug; when I click on "Check Mail" I get an error message "Error while getting folder information" ... Actually, this doesn't appear to have the slightest effect on kmail, which works perfectly if one just presses Continue. But I have worked out that the cause of the problem is that there exists a kind of ghost folder, "uidvalidity", which is listed among the folders on the kmail page but does not in fact seem to exist in my maildir on the server. Deleting the folder under kmail has no permanent effect; it simply re-appears when I re-start kmail. I assume the folder is listed in some way in the dovecot.index ; and my question really is: if I delete this index file will it be re-created automatically? This bug/feature seems to have been present for years, which I suppose is par for KDE. To make it as difficult as possible to diagnose, the error message on the kmail page is incomplete, even when expanded to the whole screen. In particular it does not specify (on the visible part) what folder is causing the problem. Nor is the error listed with other dovecot information in /var/log/messages . Hi, I'm trying to run Celtx (a screenplay formatter) in CentOS 5.3 from the shell. If I run celtx-bin I get the following error: ./celtx-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libjemalloc.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory If I run celtx I get ./celtx-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libgio-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I can't find either of these files in the repositories. I find libgioXXX for OpenSuse and Mandriva at PBone, but not for Red Hat. I'm guessing these files are part of a bigger library? Any pointers would be appreciated. 2TB partition limitation on X86_64 version??

we have DELL server with Centos 5.3 X86_64 bits version on it. This server also have couple MD1000 connect to it. We configured MD1000 as one hardware Volume size 2990GB. I tried to use "fdisk" to partition this 2990Gb volume and "fdisk" can only see 2000GB. does 64 bits O.S. still have 2TB limitation on File system? Does there has other tool can partition disk size large than 2TB?
