Problem with Logitech wireless keyboard EX110

I got a Logitech EX110 wireless keyboard and mouse set about a year or so ago, maybe more. The number pad on the keyboard stopped working after a while, so I complained to Logitech, and they sent me a new keyboard (actually, the whole set). I've had the problem on and off again a couple of times since then, but it usually only lasts a few days before all is well again. However, my son also has the same set (well, same model, different pieces of hardware) on his Windows XP machine, and he has _never_ had this problem. Tonight, he suggested that it might be a Linux problem, so I took our spare keyboard of this same type and switched them on my machine. Surprise: the new keyboard has exactly the same problem - no response from the number pad. Actually, that's not entirely accurate. The num lock and the Enter key both work, but the 5 key produces some control combination I don't recognize (seems to behave something like ^V of a previously ^X'd clipboard copy, unrelated to the current input), and the + key which seems to produce something like ^V^V, or "highlight the current terminal line" or something, but none of the other keys work at all. In any case, it looks like this is a problem with the keyboard driver, not the keyboard hardware. If I replace the wireless set with a wired keyboard and mouse, without rebooting, the mouse works, but the keyboard does not. (Apparently, after I tried the following, it turned out to be a bad keyboard....) If I replace the keyboard and reboot, oh, foo, bad keyboard. But! If I reboot with a good keyboard, it works, and then I can switch back to the wireless set and everything works, _including_ the number pad: 0.123456789/*-+ Is there a way to refresh the keyboard driver without rebooting? Anyway, thoughts, suggestions, etc. welcome. mhr

Secure mail login problem

Hi all, Finally got around to making sendmail and dovecot use a secure log in procedure on my server. Now when I open up outlook it goes through a secure log in. Unfortunately, I am using my own self signed cert on the server for this. Hence, I get, for every single account, everytime I open up outlook a warning about untrusted cert. I have looked around and found a spot in IE to 'import' a cert of some kind...and this would seem like the way to make it work. I am unsure exactly what I am supposed to copy or run on the server to then save to my home computer to then add to the 'import' part. For sendmail I made a sendmail.pem and dovecot already came installed with its cert. It is annoying to have the warnings everytime I open outlook up and if anyone has experience with this stuff I would not mind a quick helping hand. Thanks all. Bob

card reader not responding

I saved pictures on an SD card with my Nokia phone (1 GB). Now, I'm trying to use the card on my Acer Aspire 3680 (laptop) running 5.3 and gnome. Popping the card in (until it clicks) evokes nothing from the system log or dmesg, and I don't see anything relevant in /dev. (What is the device for this?) lspci has this entry: 0a:09.2 Mass storage controller: Texas Instruments 5-in-1 Multimedia Card Reader (SD/MMC/MS/MS PRO/xD) I couldn't find anything in Cent's wiki (searching for "card reader"), so I tired Google's linux SE, and found this: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=64974 I tried all 3 modprobe lines (as root) - "FATAL ... not found." So, one problem seems to be that I'm unfamiliar with modprobe; what's wrong? Do I need to install something? I should note that I'm not at all familiar with setting up new stuff like this. If I'm going at it wrong, please inform!

[offtopic] Fedora 11 RPM's funny?

Is there something funny about rpm in Fedora 11 that causes cpio errors when trying to install src.rpm's in CentOS 5.3, or am I just getting repeated bad downloads?

RPM python subroutine for (epoch, version, release) comparation?

Hi, all, On Centos 5 I am programming RPM with python recently. When I read the online RPM python programming guide at http://docs.fedoraproject.org/drafts/rpm-guide-en/ch16s05.html, I got confused at the EVR() function as the function returns the (epoch, version, release) as a string “%epoch-%version-%release”, and so the RPM comparing process is simplified as string comparing – which doesn’t look correct, am I wrong?
