xen dom0/domU network speed

Hi all, I have problem reaching 1Gbps network speed with dom0 / domU (paravirtualized) on my centos5 installations. The fastest speed I measured in domU was about 800/600 receive/transmit Mbps, dom0 being a bit slower. I'm using bridging (eeither with default xen/centos network-bridge script or with my own scripts assigning vlans to bridges). Is anyone experiencing same network slowdown? Is anyone already working on RPMs for VirtualBox OSE?

I have some RPMs I've made of innotek's VirtualBox OSE (Open Source Edition) for both CentOS 4 and CentOS 5 (i386). These RPMs include the dkms support for the kernel driver, etc. I have a couple of subtle things to fix in the RPMs (like setting the permissions on udev devices, etc.) but they're already usable. Before I spend more time on it, and submit it for inclusion in the "testing" repo, I thought I'd ask here if someone was already working on doing this. thanks! Greg Bailey gbailey(a)lxpro.com

Virtual Box Host Networking problems

Dear Centos-Virt: This is actually a second request for help on the same issue. I finally got to try what several months ago was replayed to me and no joy was to be had. I am afraid the original thread got stale and also had extra, unnecessary data in it. Guest=XP Pro, SP2 Host=CentOS5; # uname -r; 2.6.18-8.1.15.el5 VirtualBox-1.5.0_24069_rhel5-2.i586.rpm http://www.virtualbox.org/download/1.5.0/VirtualBox-1.5.0_24069_rhel5-1.i58… I have two nic: eth0 is the internal network; eth1 connects to a DSL modem. I also have a fully functioning DHCP server on eth0 (works perfectly with Parallels for Linux). The directions (from hell): http://www.virtualbox.org/download/UserManual.pdf I am trying to set up a "host interface" network between my XP guest and my Linux host (eth0). I do believe I don't have a clue as to how to set up a bridge on eth0. VB doesn't get an IP. If I configure the VB NIC with a static address (I tried 192.168.255.20), again no receive light and the network won't work. Also, I have to "ifdown eth1" and "ifup eth1" to get the "G" (gateway) to show up on "netstat -rn". Otherwise, no surfing the net with Firefox (Linux version). Weird. I am so very confused. I'm new to the CentOS arena and I'm curious as to what virtualization products are preferred? The two main ones that I know of are Xen and VMWare. VMWare seems to be the most capable inre: number and size of vm's allowed. When looking at Xen it appears that since Citrix acquired them the free version is cripple-ware and is very restrictive.
