Shutting down pv guests under xen

Section 3.3 of the 3.0 Xen user guide states Xen can wait for all running guests (pv I assume) to shutdown before it shuts down. What are the requirements for this to work? In a test setup, I made an lvm snap of a CentOS 5.1 pv guest and then shut down Dom0 and it didn't wait for that DomU? Thanks! jlc

Ok, this is where I got messed up (No grub line :)). I originally had the rpmforge sk98ln rpm installed to make this realtek nic work before I tried this, then using this procedure which I followed to a "t" didn't mask the device from Dom0? It loaded the driver and setup the nic? I know I had the pci slot number right. I thought the initrd was wrong, so I looked through grub and looked at what it loaded, then checked the timestamp of the one I made with that command and it was consistent? I assume something still wasn't right with my mkinitrd, it completed with zero verbosity, mayeb I should try to use -v and see what happens. Any ideas? Hi, what would be the shortest and fastest way to clone a e.g. basic Centos 5 guest for further use? For example I'd like to set up a master Mysql-server as a guest an than "clone" two additional slaves. Which xen configfiles may be edited? Can the config and the filesystem simply be copied? Compiling Xen from srpm and changing build options

Is it possible to build the rpm from xen's srpm and change options such as whether or not to enable PCI-device backend driver, or basically expose all the options menuconfig would? I am trying to pass a nic into a pv guest and I cant get it to work using the other possible route using the modprobe.conf method. Thanks, jlc

Device 0 (vif) could not be connected. Hotplug scripts not working.

Hi, I got this error when starting a domU on Centos 5.1 i386, Device 0 (vif) could not be connected. Hotplug scripts not working. Why is this happening ? I should restart the machine to see if this still happends after a fresh network bridge. But it's somehow a production server, I would like not to restart it, if possible. No domU is currently running. I could start domUs a week ago. Convirt + CentOS 5

Hi There, I am currently running CentOS 5.1 with the RPMs that come with the "Virtualization" package and using the virt-manager gui. I really like the look of "convirt" (formerly "xenman") and was thinking of doing the following: - Compile the SRPMs for Xen 3.2 from source and install over top of the existing Xen (I have an x86_64 machine) - Use the latest version of Convirt I was wondering if anyone has done either of the above, and if you had run into any problems? In other words: 1.) What sort of issues (if any) did you run in to when installing Xen 3.2 over top of the the 3.0.3 that comes with CentOS 5.1? 2.) Are you running in to issues using Convirt (I had heard about some issues some users had had trying to using it under CentOS5, but wanted to see of they still persist) TIA for your advice. -Alan

virbr0 and libvirtd

I set libvirtd off to disable virbr0 and set my vif's to point to eth0 as their bridge and this is working well for local connectivity. Are there any ramifications to doing this the way I did? Thanks! jlc
