Add new drive to Windows domu

Hi everyone, I'm wondering how one adds a new drive to a Windows domu... I'm running Centos 5.1 x86_64 on a Xeon server and have a Windows 2003 R2 64 bit domu. The Windows system was installed from a CD onto this server so it is a brand new VM. All working fine. So then I wish to add another drive to the Windows domu for a data drive. I added the drive to the Xen configuration, but it doesn't turn up in Windows. When I reboot and go into the Windows server control panel/system/hardware, there is still only one drive there, a QEMU drive. Here is the configuration I have... Virtuozzo & GFS

I have just finished deploying two Dell PowerEdge 1950s with CentOS 5.1 and Virtuozzo 4. GFS is up and running and Virtuozzo is configured for shared-storage clustering. Everything works adequately but I am wondering if anyone else has experienced load issues like I am seeing. I have three VEs/VMs running, two on one node and one on the other node. One of the VEs on each node are doing very little (one is just idling with apache and mysql and the other is running rsync every six hours). The other is running Zimbra. Every so often load will spike on the node running the Zimbra VE to as high as 2 or 3 then settle down a short while later to around 0.8 or 0.9. During the spikes the node not running Zimbra will other see an increase from its idle load of 0.4 or so up to as high as 1.7 as I have seen. I notice when running top that dlm_send and dlm_recv will jump to the top fairly frequently when these load spikes occur. What I am wondering is whether anyone else has experienced these kind of load scenarios with GFS and what they have done to deal with them? We are hoping to deploy a bit more densely on this setup so I'd like to make any performance adjustments I can at this stage. Thanks, James Thompson

About dom0 and guest machine

Hello Friends, good afternoon I'd like to ask about stored settings of dom0 and guests machine. For example, I've a SunFire x4600 with 32GB/Ram and 16 CPU's (8 CPU's dual core). What do you recommend like a good configuration, keep to (dom0-cpus 0) or force the max CPU to cpu0, in my case (dom0-cpus 16) ? My second doubt is about the guest machine, when I make a config file, I can set the vcpus flag, where I can set the MAX CPU number (I believe), so, Imagine, I'd like to create a guest machine with 4 CPU's, but, maybe, I need increase this value. How do you recommend the configuration of vcpus field in guest machine config file ?!, with the max CPU possible or there are another configuration for this. So, Thank you in advanced. What if you boot with other kernel? xen kernel showing only one processor on SMP machine

Hi there, I'm running an ibm xseries 345/dual Xeon 2.66GHz, 2.6.18-53.1.14.el5xen #1 SMP, and cat /proc/cpuinfo shows me only one processor. Apparently something strange happening with ACPI. What am I doing wrong? Thank you! (sorry for the cross post, didn't realize there was a virt list first time around!) virtual sprawl - managing password changes

We are using the free VMware Server on CentOS 4. Almost all of our VMs are CentOS 4 as well. We have 7 VMware hosts with about 40 total virtual machines. It's been a very successful architecture for us. I'm wondering how the rest of the community is managing updates of root (and other local account) passwords in a virtual sprawl environment (or a physical environment with lots of hosts). I have read about things like expect, puttycs, centralize with kerberos, etc. But I'm not looking for "options" here, I want to hear actual experiences! What has worked for you, what hasn't worked? Or do you feel that the chance for failure is to great and the results too catastrophic? Thanks, -- Jeff

Guys FYI, A couple of people from VirtualIron got in touch with me following on from the flexiscale donation (we have a few i386/x86_64 VM's hosted there, we == CentOS Project, that the QA guys are looking at using to do some of their work in ) Over the next few days, the Virtual Iron guys will prolly touch base with this list and see how the centos project might be able to work with them on varios centos specific things. - KB
