KVM: bridge configuration for static IP address

I need to allocate public IP address to two guest os. I have only 2 network card Interface on server. say eth0 and eth1. I set eth1 a public IP address. so it should in # vi /etc/sysconfig/ifcfg-eth1 DEVICE=eth1 BOOTPROTO=static HWADDR=00:1a:4d:83:ad:00 BROADCAST=202.127.29.0 IPADDR=202.127.29.5 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 NETWORK=202.127.29.0 ONBOOT=yes TYPE=Ethernet Question 1: do I have to add GATEWAY=202.127.29.1 to above setting? now continue to set eth0,seems I would use it as bridge ,so ifcfg-eth0 would be: # vi ifcfg-eth0 DEVICE=eth0 HWADDR=00:1a:4d:83:ad:50 ONBOOT=yes BRIDGE=br0 There's no IP address in this ifcfg-eth0. so Question 2: do I need to add the rest 2 IP addresses in br0? or I should keep br0 with no IP address and set IP in guest OS directly? Could anybody tell me how to set br0 to let host os and 2 guest os all have their own dedicated IP address?

About doing backups with kvm guests

Hi all, I have two centos 5.4 servers that I use to run several windows kvm guests (10). All works ok (more or less) but I have a problem with backups. These windows guests are configured to use lvm partitions as a virtual disks. My problem is when I need to do guests backups. which is the best form to backup and restore these windows guests? Some examples? I see snapshot's lvm option, but I think that this option it is not valid for windows guests... probably I need to use dd?? But if i use dd, how can I restore lvm image onto another host with lvm partitions? Thanks. -- CL Martinez carlopmart {at} gmail {d0t} com

Hi All, I'm using xen 3.0 on CentOS 5 with VLAN. #vconfig add eth0 100 #/etc/xen/script/network-bridge start vifnum=1 netdev=eth0 bridge=xenbr0.100 I know that after xen 3.2 the procedure of bridge configuration is changed. What is the correct command to set bridge interface to vlan? Yukio

KVM network bridge setting on centOS

I have a server that will be hosted in IDC. The Server have 2 network interface card. I would like to set one for host os itself. and the other network interface card as bridge for guest OS. Because I have 3 IP address that will allocate to host os and guest os. The host OS will be centos 5.4. I need ideas about how to set host OS's network. Could anybody post a workable network seting for me? because the Centos Wiki page seems out of date about this part. and also I googling a lot, but most instruction in the internet seems out of date too. KVM guest on a specific disk

I'm deploying my KVM virtualization and I have this question. To get my guest os best performance I would like to install my OS from CD ROM while booting in a saperate disk, say /dev/sda4 then in host os I mount /dev/sda4 as /mnt/vm. So I can install a guest OS by virt-install with synax --import, right? I didn't give it a try yet so I'd like to know if other people have done it successfully. Will this let guest os best performance because it has its own disk rather than just a image file? and will it ocuppy the host running resources less? Rewing

S3 (Suspend to Disk) with XEN

Hi All, I have a 5.4 box and testing xen 3.4 on kernel-xen-2.6.18-164.6.1.el5. As you know, there are no enough configuration to do "Suspend to Disk" of the .config of the kernel-xen-2.6.18-164.6.1.el5. # Power management options (ACPI, APM) # CONFIG_PM=y Then, I tied to get the kernel-2.6.18-164.6.1.el5.src.rpm, installed that. #pwd /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/kernel-2.6.18/linux-2.6.18.i686 #cp configs/kernel-2.6.18-i686-xen.config .config #make menuconfig Power management options (ACPI, APM) ---> ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) Support ---> │ │ │ │ CPU Frequency scaling ---> │ │ There are no menu which likes "Legacy Power Management API". How can I add the options to enable the Supend to Disk? Yukio

They got the expected ~50% improvement from the extra stripe segment in RAID 5 with a serial access pattern. Unfortunately, that's neither real world use nor the typical way you would fulfill requirements.
