Hello, RHEL 5.5 has been released, and it contains many Xen related fixes. Here's the most important of the them.. fixing a dom0 caching bug which could cause domU disk corruption when the domU disk was accessed from dom0 after the domU was shutdown. Most people noticed this bug when pygrub used wrong (cached) information. KVM: 'ÿ' character after starting a VM via virt-install

I'm unable to start a virtual machine with KVM. I'm using Centos 5.4 I have installed all necessary rpms (to my knowledge), but as you can see from the output (below), the system does not boot the CD-ROM. It just sits there doing nothing: # virt-install --prompt Would you like to use KVM acceleration? (yes or no) yes What is the name of your virtual machine? test How much RAM should be allocated (in megabytes)? 1024 What would you like to use as the disk (file path)? /var/lib/libvirt/images/test.img How large would you like the disk (/var/lib/libvirt/images/test.img) to be (in gigabytes)? 20 What is the install CD-ROM/ISO or URL? /root/CentOS-5.4-i386-bin-1of6.iso Starting install... virt-manager connect to remote virtual server xen+ssh

I don't usually install a graphical environment on my servers, so I don't usually use virt-manager. However, I recently put CentOS 5 on my Dell Latitude D820. It has hardware virtualization support, 4G RAM and a 500G HD, so I can carry a virtualization lab around with me. I found the trick of getting a non-active xen VM to show up in virt-manager's list by using virsh edit <VM> and changing the amount of RAM, so that was cool. I'm trying to use virt-manager to manager my other xen based virtualization servers, but I'm unable to successfully connect to them. I am able to connect to the other servers with virsh --connect=xen+ssh://vsrv/, though, so I'm assuming it has something to do with virt-manager. I haven't, yet, found any debug mode, so I'm hoping someone on the list has some suggestions for me. Please, give me some hints as to where to go next in trouble shooting virt-manager connecting to a non-local xen server. Is there a debug mode that I'm missing? -------------------- Ed Heron

Connection stall when connecting to XEN guests

Hello I have a physical server (Dell Poweredge 1950III) running current CentOS 5.4 x86_64 and the XEN hypervisor, provided by CentOS. This machine has 2 virtual machines installed, both with CentOS 5.4 x86_64. Unfortunatly SSH connections coming both, from an external machine or from DOM0, regularly stall, for a period of some minutes. In other words, while working through SSH, at a given moment everything freezes and after some minutes thaws again. We have several other machines with similar hardware/software configurations, but none of these has similar stalls. Anyway, when attaching the console with "xm console <vm-name>" there are no stalls at all. Does anybody have any suggestion on where to start to trouble shoot this problem? Regards, Peter -- Dott. date problem on my virtual centos server

I have a Centos server 5.4 64 bits with xen server, and It has 6 virtual servers, windows 2003 and centos 5.4 64bits. One of my servers have a special problem with the time. It is a centos server 5.4 64 bits, with apache, and mysql and dokuwiki running. When somebody update the content in the wiki apps, it take the time of the server and always the time is forward than the real time, for example right now the time of that centos server is and hour more than the current time. I was changing manually the time, and also I update the packages to fix any possible bug, but I still have the same problem. I've set up a local webserver to store kickstart files for domUs. All parameters are respected apart from the network settings. DomU always gets DHCP. Can any one help to unwrap this one? Hi I install CentOS 5.4 and try to use Xen.... But when I deploy some VM with Virt-manager and specify 2 or more VCPUS to use, when start the vm it start with just one CPU... On this VM I install Windows 2003 Server...
