I haven't seen anything on the announce list and don't see these in the repos: qspice-client - http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHEA-2010-0492.html spice-xpi - http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHEA-2010-0493.html kvm - http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2010-0479.html Anyone know what the story is? Lockup with (none) login

I had a CentOS 5.5 Xen "standard virtualization" install lockup on reboot after an battery backup (apcusbd) orderly shutdown induced by a power outage. It may have been sitting with two kernel updates without a reboot. I have to head to the site (with a fractured ankle), but reports indicate that it is at - (none) login: which only returns back to itself after a user login at console, including root. - the local user says, though the monitor speed was "too fast" that it is failing to find its mounts OR that the disk reported errors. It is on a dmraid (I know, please don't flame me). There is some critical information on the drives that did NOT backup. I need a list of tools and ideas to have a checklist to try and resurrect this machine. Of course I will go with - Live CD - CentOS 5.5 install. - Hard drives. I would appreciate any procedural methods to go about this and try to resurrect this machine.

+1 for dd + nc over ssh if necessary. This process can and probably will saturate your ethernet interface, so depending upon the amount of traffic the box pushes on the public interface the size of the partition and other factors, sometimes i add a crossover cable between unused interfaces on the 2 boxes and run the process over that interface, so it doesn't impact the running vms. accesing remote domU vnc console?

I'm having an strange weird problem while trying to connect to a remote domU console The VM runs win2k3, I need to connect on the console in order to change its IP address I log into dom0, find the domU ID: [root@btreptab01 xen]# virsh list Id Name State ---------------------------------- 0 Domain-0 running 8 linux idle 9 win2k3 running so I open a new session and tunnel vnc through it: ssh -L 5907:localhost:5907 root@remoteip then launch a vnc client krdc localhost:7 and nothing happens :/ netstat shows the connection as established on both hosts, but I can't get a console working, just a blank screen I tried enabling vncserver on dom0, connecting to it, launching virt-manager and trying to attach to it, same result. It shows a "connecting to console" message and nothing more.... the dom0 host is in a datacenter many miles away from here, so walking to it and working on the server's console is not a practical option any ideas/help would be greatly apreciated
