Vlan trunk/QinQ connected to KVM guest

I am running KVM guests under Redhat 6. I tried to setup a bridge device to an interface with a vlan trunk connected to a Juniper switch. On the KVM host, I am able to define vlans and access them via the vlan trunk. I was not able to access a vlan from the kvm guest connected to the bridged interface. I believe this would be what is commonly called QinQ or 802.1ad. Is this possible to do? I am using virtio drivers. If I can't do this, I guess I will end up with alot of bridged vlans. I tried doing this a while back under the vmware server and it did not work either. I think the reason that it did not work had something to do with arp resolution. I believe I read some where that it may be possible under ESXi. Thanks, Nataraj

Time lagging on DomU

Hi, on one of our systems I see that while the time on the Centos 5.4 Host is correct it lags behind on two of the 5.5 guests by almost 5 minutes but is correct for the third domU. From what I understand the clock of the system is controlled by the host and and guest cannot write to it (and because of that not change it). Does anyone now what the cause could be and how I can fix the time for the guests? Running kernel versions: Host (correct time): 2.6.18-164.15.1.el5xen guest 1 (correct time): 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5xen guest 2 (wrong time): 2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen guest 3 (wrong time): 2.6.18-194.el5xen Regards, Dennis

Resizing EXT3 partition in guest instance CentOS5

Hi, I have two guest vm instance running CentOS 5 with ext3 partition. I will like to reduce 1 VM harddisk space and using the 'release' harddisk space to add onto my second VM. Basically I need to know how can I reduce and increase an ext3 partition in CentOS KVM. I did a search and basically i can do it by booting the VM using Knoppix and use Gparted to reduce and increase the diskspace. I am thinking of the following 1) Boot first VM using Knoppix 2) Reduce the ext3 partition disk size using Gparted 3) Shutdown the VM and resize the diskspace using Virtual Manager 4) Increae the diskspace of the second VM using Virtual Manager 5) Boot up second VM using Knoppix 6) Increase the ext3 partition disk size using Gparted 7) Reboot the second VM As this is the first time i am doing it, will these work? Anyone has experience resiziing their EXT3 partition in KVM environment before? Thanks! Regards yongsan

Next3 (eg ext3 snapshots support) on OpenNode / CentOS 5 / RHEL 5 howto and rpms

We have created an next3 and patched e2fsprogs OpenNode / CentOS 5 / RHEL 5 rpms - installable from opennode-test yum repo. Provided next3 kernel module is currently built against RHEL5 OpenVZ kernel used in OpenNode - so installing this next3 rpm package on your CentOS 5 or RHEL 5 host will install also OpenVZ patched RHEL5 kernel and newer e2fsprogs package. Installation and usage instructions are provided by this howto document: http://opennode.activesys.org/documentation/howtos/next3-snapshots/ There is also simple next3 snapshotting automation script available for use with cron - usage and download link provided in howto document referenced above. Hi everyone, I am still struggling to install a Windows XP host within my virtual machine manager, i can't seem to do a http, ftp and nfs. Can someone explain a simpler way of installing i have read all the Redhat documentation but still struggling :-( Thanks Mark

Finding inputvsc.iso...

Hello! First time poster, longtime lurker here. I have been trying to get full functionality on a Centos 5.5 in a Hyper-V environment but the mouse pointer is not cooperating at all. It seems I need to find a file called inputvsc.iso that xen has until recently distributed. However the file is nowhere to be found. The link http://www.xen.org/download/satori.html is out of order and I have googled my eyes out all day to no avail. Does anyone have a working source/link for this ISO? =T=
