USB redirection under CentOS 6.4

Hi all, Does usb redirection works?? I am trying to assign to a Win7 kvm guest an usb HP printer without luck ... My second attempt is to use usb redirection, but according to Redhat's docs, this option is only available for windows using RHEV ... Is this correct?? Solution was relatively easy and mainly a matter of understanding the "ifcfg-eth0 - like" files. What I did: 1 - yum install bridge-utils 2 - change /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 to: DEVICE="eth0" BOOTPROTO=none ONBOOT="yes" TYPE="Ethernet" HWADDR=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx BRIDGE="br0" USERCTL=no IPV6INIT=no NM_CONTROLLED="no" 3 - change change /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-br0 to: DEVICE="br0" BOOTPROTO=none ONBOOT="yes" IPADDR=192.168.0.95 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 GATEWAY=192.168.0.1 DNS1="192.168.0.1" PEERDNS="yes" TYPE="Bridge" DELAY=0 STP=off USERCTL=no IPV6INIT=no NM_CONTROLLED=no 4 - /etc/init.d/network restart 5 - choose Host device eth0 (Bridge 'br0') in the VM-manager GUI for the virtual-machine's NIC 6 - restart the virtual machines That made it all work. So what I had wrong initially were settings in the ifcfg-xxx files. There are different settings that may work and I just tried some of the not-working combinations. Cheers, Koos.

moving the Xen4CentOS repo Kernel to 3.10.x

Do we want to move the Xen4CentOS kernel to new LTS 3.10.x from the current 3.4.x Kernel? If so, can we start testing the that kernel build? Is someone from Xen.org working on porting the xen specific patches that are required in the 3.10.x kernel from the ones we have in the 3.4.x tree in Xen4CentOS? The only one I know we need is the blktap module. I have created a new spec that builds a kernel with all the Xen configuration settings (except CONFIG_XEN_BLKDEV_TAP=m) Thanks, Johnny Hughes

I upgraded from CentOS 5.9 to CentOS 6.4. I try to reuse my virtual machines and am only partially successful: I can run them, I just cannot get the network OK and need some help with that. What I had in the past was pretty simple: both the host and the VM's used eth0 and each had an IP in the same subnet and could communicate freely. With the new install it seems somewhat more complex and I think I need to configure a bridge and use that. Unfortunately, info I find through google is overwhelming and confusing. All examples either configure something else, or the outcome is not what expected. So: how to go about setting things up to have say: My physical machine is on 192.168.0.90 My Virtual machines are on 192.168.0.100 and 101. These are to be fixed addresses. The 2 VM's have to communicate with each other and with the physical machine. The VM's do not necessarily need to communicate with the rest of the world. The physical machine needs to communicate with the rest of the world. I use: - CentOS-6.4_64 - Virtual Machine Manager 0.9.0 - xen 4.2.3 - libvirt 0.10.2.7-5 - VM's show Hypervisor = xen (fullvirt) - Emulator = qemu-dm - NIC points to Shared device name virbr0 - on the host, virbr0 has IQ 192.168.122.1 I have been fighting this for 2 weeks, now. I tried to follow several advises which resulted in either the VM's not connecting to anything, or my host losing its connection to the rest of the world, or both. Automatic startup xen domains

Hi all, I have installed a CentOS 6.4 x86_64 host with official centos-xen packages. I am using virt-manager to create, remove, etc .. vmachines. All works really really well except automatic domains startup. Where libvirtd stores domains configurations?? Under /etc/libvirtd/qemu not, like it does when I use kvm instead of xen. Then, how can I automatic startup certain xen domains?? Thanks.

Hi all, Somebody knows how can I assign screen geometry as a percentage of the whole screen like rdesktop does?? For example: "spicec -g 80%". Maybe using xorg.conf specific configuration?? Thanks.

"lxc-centos" container automation script

Hello, For me as a debianista who has need to run some software (Kolab) in the vendor(provider)-supported OS (CentOS), LXC is a godsend. However, lxc distributions I am aware of do not ship the "lxc-fedora" or "lxc-debian" equivalent to construct a container. I have thus set out to modify the former (please find the result attached). KVM - Network bridge issue - lots of overruns

Hi everybody I've a very big network problem with some server running CentOS with KVM and some linux-like VMs on the top of it. The vm's network is bridged with a physical dedicate NIC (an Intel PRO/1000) with 2.4.14-NAPI driver (but the problem persists with various versions of the driver) and the CentOS version is 6.4 (same problem with a 5.7 sever) with all the last updates. Randomly I get a lots of overruns on the vnet device on the physical server ad obviously some packet were lost in the VM. brctl show br1 bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces br1 8000.002655e7590d no eth3 vnet1 ifconfig vnet1 vnet1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr FE:54:00:BF:27:12 inet6 addr: fe80::fc54:ff:febf:2712/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:13358349859 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:21831525660 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:1746068 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:500 RX bytes:5080769358430 (4.6 TiB) TX bytes:16548002754111 (15.0 TiB) As you can see there are a huge numbers of overruns also if the physical NIC is dedicate solely to this VM and the network traffic is less than 150Mbps. The server is a quite new machine (HP DL120 G6) but I have the same problem on an old DL360 G5 (but this is running about 10 vms). What can I do to solve the problem? My idea was to use the KVM passthrough functionality for the network device, but this method isn't good for a server that runs more than 2 vms as my 360G5... Thanks Beppe PS sorry for my bad english

Where are snapshots stored??

HI all, I have created a snapshot for a kvm guest but only for one of disks assigned to it: qemu-img snapshot -c osvol_base /vmachines/vmtst/osvol.img and qemu-img snapshot shows me: Snapshot list: ID TAG VM SIZE DATE VM CLOCK 1 osvol_base 0 2013-08-29 11:37:23 00:00:00.000 It seems ok, but where is this snapshot stored?? I didn't find it ...
