Xen 4.4.1-rc1+ rebase

I've got a first cut of the rebase here: git://github.com/gwd/sig-virt-xen out/update-4.4.1-rc1-ee81dda-RFC To build it, you'll need to download the polarssl tarball: http://xenbits.xen.org/xen-extfiles/polarssl-1.1.4-gpl.tgz And you'll need a tarball based on (unfortunately) a private tree, which you can find here: git://github.com/gwd/xen base/update-4.4.1-rc1-ee81dda-RFC This branch is based on upstream ee81dda (the current staging-4.4), with an additional two backported commits. To reproduce the tarball, checkout the above branch, then: ./configure make -C tools qemu-xen-dir-find make -C tools qemu-xen-traditional-find make src-tarball A couple of notes: * I haven't actually had time to test this yet! This is just so we're not totally duplicating work... * This does not have XSA-100 in it yet, so it's not quite ready for release. -George

KVM integrated network (user mode) dying after inactivity

So, I'd like to ask here whether anyone else has run into this. I have multiple CentOS 6 machines running using KVM to virtualize a bunch of machines on them (LVM-based). Software releases as following: [root@fe00 ~]# rpm -qa|egrep '(virt|kvm)' virt-viewer-0.5.6-8.el6_5.3.x86_64 libvirt-python-0.10.2-29.el6_5.7.x86_64 libvirt-client-0.10.2-29.el6_5.7.x86_64 qemu-kvm-0.12.1.2-2.415.el6_5.8.x86_64 libvirt-0.10.2-29.el6_5.7.x86_64 python-virtinst-0.600.0-18.el6.noarch [root@fe00 ~]# uname -r 2.6.32-431.17.1.el6.x86_64 The VMs (here: two) have the "default" connection provided by KVM (heading to the internet) as well as a bridged interface to connect to a high performance backbone, where sensitive data is kept and bandwidth is an issue (or better, not :), on a second interface within the VMs: [root@fe00 ~]# brctl show bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces br1 8000.001b21xxxxxx yes eth1 vnet1 vnet3 virbr0 8000.525400xxxxxx yes virbr0-nic vnet0 vnet2 br1 is the interface connected to the backbone, virbr0 KVM's user mode network. After some time of inactivity on the virbr0 interface, from *within* the VMs connection is *lost*. The interface(s) lose their IP; running dhclient(8) is not of any use. To get the machine back onto track, ``service libvirtd restart'' has to be issued: Vanished iptables rules show up again. (This, in contrast to an Ubuntu document [0], fixes it without shutting the VM(s) down.) Starting dhclient(8) within the VMs gets connectivity back. Just out of curiosity I let one of the VMs cause some ICMP traffic now and then hit the interface -- ``ping -i 10 some.nice.host'' is sufficient to keep that interface alive. The virbr0-headed interfaces are almost only being used to get updates etc -- management and load-balanced services are being served by the bridged interface. Is this a bug or a feature? Frequent Kernel Oops' on CentOS 6 / Xen

I believe qemu-image can convert between a few different virtualization disk image formats. Of course that just changes the disk image itself... and not the drivers inside... so if you do convert it (I'd recommend working on a copy)... then you'll probably have to pull the VirtualBox guest addons out... and install the KVM guest stuff... but it shouldn't be that difficult. In fact, the very one that you referenced. And I had already gathered that one probably cannot run both a kvm and a vb hypervisor on the same host at the same time. I was wondering if there was any other issues respecting having both of them installed on the same host at the same time even if only one, or neither, is running? A supplemental question: Is there any way to convert a VB guest image into a KVM guest image? The VM image in question is MicroSoft's IE6 development image for MS-XPproSP3. We have a government mandated program that is written in J# and the last OS to support that is XP. I have to get some sort of virtualised XP guest running and as the transferable licenses for that OS are somewhat scarce I thought I might try and get the legal VM version running. DomUs error when stopping xendomains

Hello, I have the following error with Xen 4.2.4-33 when stopping xendomains: Shutting down Xen domains: Domain-0(skip) xen101(save).. xen101(save)............ xen102(save). An error occurred while saving domain: Error: Domain '9' does not exist. ! (shut). An error occurred while shutting down domain: Error: Domain '9' does not exist. ! xen102(save)............ xen103(save). An error occurred while saving domain: Error: Domain '11' does not exist. ! (shut). An error occurred while shutting down domain: Error: Domain '11' does not exist. ! After reading a bit on Google I've found that this can be fixed by changing the LIST_GREP in xendomains: +LIST_GREP='^(domain$\|(domid\|(name\|^{$\|"name":\|"domid":' -LIST_GREP='((domain\|(domid\|(name\|^{$\|"name":\|"domid":' This fix works. I think I have found the information, in the RHEL documentation - https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/7/ht… but I have to chuckle that it appears they have not fully updated the information beacause of this blurb: To create a bridge (br0) based on the eth0 interface, execute the following command on the host: # virsh iface-bridge eth0 br0 what the heck is an eth0 interface, they already took that away too ;)

Centos 7 KVM questions

Clean install of centos 7 and I have most things working, however the default virbr0 interface is not getting any addressing. The interface in network manager just spins and spins and never gets an address. I thought at first it was something about firewalld which I am trying to come up to speed with but I do not believe that is the issues. I guess the questions that I have is what is the correct way to add KVM and all of the virt packages to a minimal centos 7 installation. I would like to understand bridged interfaces vs the nat interfaces what what needs to be installed/configured. Thanks in advance.

Dear Colleagues: I'm trying to use virt-manager to create a container with lxc, as the picture I attached, I indicated that I must point to a directory where the template is to manage it with virt-manager. I tried to use a template of http://wiki.openvz.org/Download/template/precreated, but not working, being on the console option displays a black screen with nothing. I have a question regarding the virtual scsi adapter.

I have a very old system which has a self compiled kernel. It' supports sata and megaraid but not LSI SCSI or BUSLOGIC scsi. I am not sure what SCSI adapter is being used on CentOS KVM host and there for what kernel options to enable in the new compiled kernel. I have tried to add LSI logic and it seems like still not recognizing the SCSI device. I have another kernel that do work but it was build with lots of modules and I am not sure which one of them is the appropriate one. The linux kernel version of the guest is 2.6.19. If someone has a .config file that has all the needed modules complied in the kernel I will be happy to see it. Thanks, Eliezer
