Hi all, just to add some ideas to lvm snapshots. As far as I know ist there no need to dd the hole disk. It should fit if you just make the lvm snap ant mount it to any device you want. So you could pack the hole img and store it via bacula or something else. And you normally dont need to shut down the system. The snapshot tooks a bit longer but should even do it while the system is in use. So just: - take the snap - mount it - pack it Dont hit me if i am not right :-) Greetz Jörg

Shutdown windows-vm hangs

Hello I have a problem with CentOS 5.4, kvm and libvirt. Although my VM with Windows Server 2k3 supports ACPI the shutdown of the VM does not work. Once a user is logged on, Windows sends an application popup ("Other people logged on ...") and wait for user-action. The shutdown hangs up and the VM's will be terminated hard. Does anyone know a way to resolve this problem? Regards

KVM, network bridge with 2 NIC environment

My server have 2 network Interface Cards (NIC). I just found if I create br0 and add both eth0 and eth1 to br0, I'll get errors: eth1: received packet with own address as source address. .. eth0: received packet with own address as source address. I still don't figure out how to set ifcfg-br0 and ifcfg-eth* to make guest os as a server just like host server in the LAN. can anybody post example for this 3 scripts?

I need to allocate public IP address to two guest os. I have only 2 network card Interface on server. say eth0 and eth1. I set eth1 a public IP address. so it should in # vi /etc/sysconfig/ifcfg-eth1 DEVICE=eth1 BOOTPROTO=static HWADDR=00:1a:4d:83:ad:00 BROADCAST=202.127.29.0 IPADDR=202.127.29.5 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 NETWORK=202.127.29.0 ONBOOT=yes TYPE=Ethernet Question 1: do I have to add GATEWAY=202.127.29.1 to above setting? now continue to set eth0,seems I would use it as bridge ,so ifcfg-eth0 would be: # vi ifcfg-eth0 DEVICE=eth0 HWADDR=00:1a:4d:83:ad:50 ONBOOT=yes BRIDGE=br0 There's no IP address in this ifcfg-eth0. so Question 2: do I need to add the rest 2 IP addresses in br0? or I should keep br0 with no IP address and set IP in guest OS directly? About doing backups with kvm guests

Hi all, I have two centos 5.4 servers that I use to run several windows kvm guests (10). All works ok (more or less) but I have a problem with backups. These windows guests are configured to use lvm partitions as a virtual disks. My problem is when I need to do guests backups. which is the best form to backup and restore these windows guests? Some examples? I see snapshot's lvm option, but I think that this option it is not valid for windows guests... probably I need to use dd??
