tick divider bugs

Hi all, If you are using the kernel divider= option in your vmware quest, you are probably aware of the bugs reported at: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=315471 Someone @redhat "confirmed" the fix is in the test kernel -92. I tried it but it seems to have the same problem as before - when used with clocksource=pit, it hangs on bootup. Wonder if some of you can test this kernel and see how it goes. Doubt about compatible hardware

Hello friends I was installed the yum group Virtualization to start tests about it, but when my machine was restarted, hung up in same time of start xend daemon .., I'm stoped the daemon with chkconfig and the OS work's fine (without xen), but when I started the daemon, my NIC/Switch led turn off. For recommendation of a guy in #xen channel (irc.freenode.com) I cahnged my NIC and this problem was solved., but every time, my network stop answer .... There are any lists like Hardware Compatible List to Xen ?!, to jump problems like above, where I'll really what NIC I can use. Open VPN connection problem on Virtual Box

Hi All, I am working on a mystery. I am using openvpn-2.1_beta7-gui-1.0.3-install on all the computers in question. All computers are running XP-Pro-SP2. (Mine is running in a virtual window -- details below.) This configuration works perfectly from my office. I use it to call five facilities: remote aa.bb.cc.dd port 5030 proto udp dev tap ifconfig 192.168.240.30 255.255.255.0 secret iamnottellingyou.txt ping-restart 60 ping-timer-rem persist-tun persist-key resolv-retry 86400 ping 10 comp-lzo verb 6 mute 10 But, this EXACT config works on TWO other computers, but not mine: remote ww.xx.yy.zz 5020 client dev tap proto udp resolv-retry infinite nobind persist-key persist-tun ca foo-ca.crt cert foo-client1.crt key foo-client1.key ns-cert-type server ping 10 comp-lzo verb 3 The only difference between the two computers that MY config works on and mine, is that my computer is running in a virtual window. Host: Cent OS 5.1 Guest XP-Pro-SP2 VM: VirtualBox-1.5.6_28266_rhel5-1.i586.rpm The host and the guest are connected by a bridge (br0): DEVICE=br0 TYPE=Bridge BOOTPROTO=static BROADCAST=192.168.255.255 IPADDR=192.168.255.10 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 NETWORK=192.168.255.0 GATEWAY=192.168.255.10 ONBOOT=yes USERCTL=yes IPV6INIT=no PEERDNS=no PROMISC=yes When trying to connect, the same error message pops up on my computer (virtual XP) and on the distant end's (XP) server: TLS Error: TLS key negotiation failed to occur within 60 seconds (check your network connectivity) The SAME error message! Why does the first config work, but not the second? It is obviously not the config: it is identical on the other two computers that it works on. I think it may be the way open vpn is reacting to my bridge, but then, again, the first config works. Editorial comment: AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Anyone know what I am doing wrong? Instalation Windows XP to XEN(Dom0 is CentOS 5)

Hello, I have problem with instalation Windows XP to XEN(Dom0 is CentOS 5). XEN is in last version for Cent OS 5(I am not sure but I think that is 3.0.4). CPU is Intel C2D with virtualization support. During the wizzard I chose FULLY virt. Windows was installed from ISO image to IMG file. During the installation appeared the dialog box with message: asms file is needed, insert please instalation CD. In virt-manager I added CD (CD is all right), but this action was without effect. Can you help me please? Do you have experience with "XP to XEN"? Regards Pavel

virt-install error messages

I get two errors when doing a fully automated kickstart install with virt- install: > libvir: QEMU error : connect: /var/run/libvirt/qemud-sock: Connection refused > libvir: warning : Failed to find the network: Is the daemon running ? that seems to be harmless and is caused by libvirtd being shut off. Then I get: > Starting install... > libvir: Xen Daemon error : GET operation failed: > Retrieving CentOS... 194 kB 00:00 > Retrieving vmlinuz... 2.0 MB 00:00 > Retrieving initrd.img... 5.0 MB 00:00 > libvir: Xen Daemon error : GET operation failed: > Creating domain... 0 B 00:00 > Domain installation still in progress. You can reconnect > to the console to complete the installation process. The "GET operation failed:" error seems to be harmless, too, but it happens whether libvirt is running or not. From googling around it looks like this is a pretty standard error. Could this be a bug in virt-install? Apart from that I notice that the virt-install installation seems to be more ressource hungry than starting a kickstart installation with virt-manager. While I don't recognize much of the virt-manager installation performance-wise, the virt-install installation clearly drains on the CPU, the system reaches 100% CPU utilization during the first one or two minutes and that is noticable at least on the desktop. Xen networking - pulling out my hair

I just cant get a Centos 5.1 domU to install under Centos 5.1 dom0. It is maddening! I'm trying to replace a single server that currently uses simple ethernet aliases (eth0:0, eth0:1, etc) with a new server that uses Xen virtualization. Maybe I dont understand bridging properly or something. My dom0 has the following: eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:44:11:22:33 inet addr:192.168.144.6 Bcast:192.168.144.7 Mask:255.255.255.252 Notice that it is a 192.168.144.4/30 address. That is all I have for my dom0. I want two different domU's. All the examples I see online have /24 ranges. domU #1 will be a single 192.168.139.4 domU #2 will be a subnet of 192.168.139.128/29 At this point that domU will be using 139.129, 130, and 131. The router that I am connected to routes/forwards those subnets to my dom0. At this stage I have modified xend-config.sxp and changed a line to (network-script /bin/true). This was based on various postings telling people to let Centos handle things instead of Xen. A also did the following: ifcfg-eth0: DEVICE=eth0 BOOTPROTO=none NETWORK=192.168.144.4 NETMASK=255.255.255.252 IPADDR=192.168.144.6 GATEWAY=192.168.144.5 ONBOOT=yes Type=Bridge ifcfg-xenbr0: DEVICE=xenbr0 ONBOOT=yes BRIDGE=eth0 DELAY=0 HWADDR=00:00:44:11:22:33 One problem with this is that eth0 comes up first and complains: Bringing up interface eth0: Device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization. [FAILED] Bringing up interface xenbr0: [ OK ] So I ended up adding ifup eth0 to /etc/rc.local. What a hack. If I tried to swap xenbr0 and eth0 files (like some online examples) there are complaints about bridging operation not supported. At this point, am I supposed to do anything special? I just run virt-manager and for shared network it only shows me eth0 (shouldn't it be xenbr0 - since they are bridged, maybe it doesnt matter) In anaconda, I select manual/static IP address. I enter 192.168.139.4 with subnet mask of 255.255.255.255, gateway/ns of 192.168.144.5 (my router). On the next screen anaconda says that it cannot find my stage2.img. When I look at my server logs and even with tcpdump, anaconda is not making any attempt to fetch this file despite the 'unable to retrieve.' message. So there must be some networking issue between the dom0 and domU. I just have no clue. The only attempts I see via tcpdump is if I try to select DHCP server, I see the broadcast packets. I'm not running selinux and I've tried disabling iptables as well as using 'iptables -I FORWARD -m physdev --physdev-is-bridged -j ACCEPT' Initially from reading I thought I may want a 'routed' xen setup instead of bridged, but it seems none of the tools virt-manager, virt-install, koan, etc support 'routed'.

Hi I am running a server in centos 5. I installed xen kernel for virtualization also. But i have a problem booting this kernel. It keeps giving me the error Panic on CPU 1. dd trough scp with tar

Hi, first i will explain my experiment : We have ESX server running virtual machines .We want to migrate to XEN. As i did not found any tool for transfering ESX to for example real server, or better to XEN --> please correct me if i am wrong , i found following approach : i will inside virtual machine on ESX boot from Live-CD of CentOS , using dd i will transfer images trought scp to CentOs machine with xen. I believe this one should work, machines on ESX are Windows2003 Servers. So what i need to find is how to write a command which will transfer image trought scp , but for faster transfer also compress it before using tar, or gzip. *so my input will be dd if=/dev/sda1 , my output will be gzipped or tarred image on second side. sda1.img.gz* ** Thanks in advance!
