"lxc-centos" container automation script

Hello, For me as a debianista who has need to run some software (Kolab) in the vendor(provider)-supported OS (CentOS), LXC is a godsend. However, lxc distributions I am aware of do not ship the "lxc-fedora" or "lxc-debian" equivalent to construct a container. I have thus set out to modify the former (please find the result attached). Optimally I'd like to prevent them (which may not be feasible given the "chroot" nature of the install). How to fix this from within a running container would also be most welcome information ... KVM - Network bridge issue - lots of overruns

Hi everybody I've a very big network problem with some server running CentOS with KVM and some linux-like VMs on the top of it. The vm's network is bridged with a physical dedicate NIC (an Intel PRO/1000) with 2.4.14-NAPI driver (but the problem persists with various versions of the driver) and the CentOS version is 6.4 (same problem with a 5.7 sever) with all the last updates. Randomly I get a lots of overruns on the vnet device on the physical server ad obviously some packet were lost in the VM. brctl show br1 bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces br1 8000.002655e7590d no eth3 vnet1 ifconfig vnet1 vnet1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr FE:54:00:BF:27:12 inet6 addr: fe80::fc54:ff:febf:2712/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:13358349859 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:21831525660 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:1746068 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:500 RX bytes:5080769358430 (4.6 TiB) TX bytes:16548002754111 (15.0 TiB) As you can see there are a huge numbers of overruns also if the physical NIC is dedicate solely to this VM and the network traffic is less than 150Mbps. The server is a quite new machine (HP DL120 G6) but I have the same problem on an old DL360 G5 (but this is running about 10 vms). What can I do to solve the problem? My idea was to use the KVM passthrough functionality for the network device, but this method isn't good for a server that runs more than 2 vms as my 360G5... Thanks Beppe PS sorry for my bad english

Where are snapshots stored??

HI all, I have created a snapshot for a kvm guest but only for one of disks assigned to it: qemu-img snapshot -c osvol_base /vmachines/vmtst/osvol.img and qemu-img snapshot shows me: Snapshot list: ID TAG VM SIZE DATE VM CLOCK 1 osvol_base 0 2013-08-29 11:37:23 00:00:00.000 It seems ok, but where is this snapshot stored?? I didn't find it ...

Hello, I am not sure if this is the correct Mailing list for the issue I have. I have a new system with 18GB of Physical memory on the system. I loaded CentOS 6.4. But when I boot into Dom0, I only see (xm info) 2GB of total memory? I set 1GB for Dom0, but I am not sure why the hypervisor does not see all the memory. Question about DomU in the 3.4 kernel

Hi all, I am trying to straighten a few things out in my mind. I understand with xen 4, and the current kernel in xen4centos, it has dom0 support now so you can install the tool stack in Centos 6.4. However, can I still use this kernel in a CentOS 6.4 guest and get DomU support and be full PV? I.E getting away from HVM and PV-HVM is my goal. Thanks!

Hello, I've used pungi with the following configuration: repo --name=centos-base --baseurl=ftp://mirrors/centos/6/os/x86_64 --cost=1 -- excludepkgs=qemu-kvm repo --name=centos-updates --baseurl=ftp://mirrors/centos/6/updates/x86_64 -- cost=1 --excludepkgs=qemu-kvm repo --name=xen4centos -- baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/centos/6/xen4/x86_64/ --cost=1 %packages @base @core @system-admin-tools anaconda # some default stuff that we don't want -pm-utils # to avoid HAL etc. -kexec-tools # to avoid failing kdump init script %end to create an ISO to install centos+xen from start. The 3.4 kernel gets included fine in the cdrom. When i try to install the ISO it freezes after anaconda starts graphical mode. I can't move the mouse, change to other VT, etc. If i install it using text mode or vnc mode it works fine. If i try the graphical safe mode (VESA) it also freezes. If i ommit the centos xen repository graphical installation works fine. I think that is a kernel related issue. Maybe some kernel build option? Does anyone have any ideas? Hi, Trying to get a handle on the 'not included' aspects of Xen4CentOS. Anyone care to share their experiences with xm vs virtinstall vs virt-manage. Currently I'm running one xm create config to launch a CentOS cd based kickstart install, then I use a second xm create config to run the created systems. Thoughts on pvgrub and running unmodified kernels from within the pv guest. Is there a set of modifications that need to be run in the guest system to work reliably? Best practices for using encrypted lv's vs img files. Xen4CentOS6 project longevity

We've been using CentOS 5 with Xen on our machines for a while now and have really grown to appreciate it. The lack of Xen for Centos 6 is the reason we haven't upgraded yet, but with Xen4CentOS6 we have all the tools we need. The concern some of are having is that when CentOS7 comes out, which will be probably less than a year, is that Xen support for CentOS6 will evaporate. I know this mailing list isn't where I should go for guaranties but are there any indicators that this project is going to stick around or not?

Support cloud-init or use-data in AWS marketplace official AMI?

Hi All, It's very helpful that CentOS release official AMIs in AWS EC2 marketplace. However, compare to official RedHat Linux and Amazon Linux AMIs in EC2, current official CentOS AMIs in marketplace does not support cloud-init or user-data scripts. which means that these AMIs doesn't support automation and dev-op operations. Since AWS CloudFormation also leverage user-data for initial the CloudFormation helper scripts to achieve auto deployment. I believe it would be a great enhancement to support user-data or cloud-init, so that the official CentOS can collaborate with AWS CloudFormation Service. May I know is there any planned schedule to support cloud-init or user-data scripts in CentOS official AMI? Regards,

XenforCentOS6...need help to setup a PCI passthrough network

Hi, I have used this http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Xen/Xen4QuickStart and everything works like a charm then I installed a VM using http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Xen/Xen4QuickStart/Xen4Libvirt only to realize later that I don't want NAT. I would want to use PCI passthrough and so i used virsh net-destroy default virsh net-undefine default and net-create /home/kartik/passthrough.xml net-autostart passthrough net-start passthrough here is the output of /etc/libvirt/qemu/networks/passthrough.xml  <network> <name>passthrough</name> <uuid>d947fa14-af51-c615-279c-5d56ced04e44</uuid> <forward mode='hostdev' managed='yes'> <pf dev='eth0'/> </forward> </network> Is my approach right? After this I tried to restart using s shutdown -r now( but the machine is not rebooting) Welcome to virsh, the virtualization interactive terminal. Type: 'help' for help with commands 'quit' to quit virsh # virsh # virsh # list --all error: Failed to reconnect to the hypervisor error: no valid connection error: unable to connect to 'localhost:8000': Connection refused Can anyone help?
