bridging to a bond in KVM

Display and Video modes - more info

Hi all, I've searched around and couldn't really find much on the subject. I am playing around with various video modes (spice, vga, etc...) while keeping the display mode to spice. Wondering why my guests defaulted to Cirrus 9MB as I don;t have that actual video adapter in my machine. And what the explanations are between video modes? I noticed vmvga doesn't work for me but rather then trial and error, it would be nice to read some docs on the subject. Thanks in advance. - aurf

virtio drivers for Centos 5.8

Hi, So I updated my guest from 5.1 to 5.8 via a complete yum update, many many packages BTW. I shutdown the guest, change its "Disk bus" from IDE to Virtio and then upon boot, I get kernel panics as no disk can be found. I do get the splash screen at first however. My guest has /dev/hda, should I change its fstab to reflect /dev/vda instead? Thans in advance, - aurf

Centos 6 - Create raid 1 + LVM during gui install

Hi all, Does any one know of a how to for creating raid 1 + LVMs during install for Centos 6? Do I create the physical LVM first and then raid or vise versa? Its seems diff then doing it for Centos 5. - aurf

proper way to snapshot

Hi, While there are a few howtos floating around, what is the standard way to snapshot guests? I went through and converted from raw to pre allocated meta data qcow2 images for this purpose. Some howtos suggest to do an xml snapshot file as so; <domainsnapshot> <name>UbuntuServer_10.10-16032011</name> <description>Snapshot of OS install and updates</description> </domainsnapshot> And then to run as so; virsh snapshot-create UbuntuServer_10.10 UbuntuServer_10.10-ss.xml Seems a bit over kill. I was thinking more along the lines of this; qemu-img snapshot -c $date $filename qemu-img convert -f qcow2 -O qcow2 -s $date $filename $filename-$date Or something like this.Anyways, hoping to see how you all are doing this for best practice sort of thing. - aurf

Guests pausing suddenly

We have a CentOS 6.2 server with KVM. That server hosts 2 virtual machines, both with Centos 6.2, too. Regularly, one or both of the virtual machines pass to state "pause" without apparent reason. On resume, I do get have messages, like the following in /var/log/messages. Mac virtualization over KVM

Hi all, Has anyone succeeded on running this Mac from iATKOS http://goo.gl/AosaB over KVM? Would some have a domain config file to help? I see that for openSuse kernels it seems to work: http://goo.gl/X11MJ The ressource it a bit outdated, might be innacurate today. Would you know a ressource teaching how to? Thank you. -- RMA.

LVM-snapshot based KVM VMs

Good m/d/n guys, wanted to put idea through you before trying to implement this. So afaik LVM snapshots basically don't take any "real" space on hard drives. I'm using KVM virtualization on my hosts and let's say i create an LVM volume for my linux VM, then install it properly, shut it down and take LVM snapshot of it. Basically i've just cloned it (LVM2 snapshots are r/w). I feed it to KVM and that's it? Can i snapshot this volume N number times and get N number of VMs that take zero actual space on actual hard drive? And when cloned VMs start writing, they will be actually writing only diffs from "master" VM. This looks like an interesting idea to manage a lot of "template" VMs while saving huge amounts of disk space. Or maybe i'm just inventing the bicycle. What do you think? Is this possible?

XEN or KVM - performance/stability/security?

Hi all. I am currently building a small test cloud based on Eucalyptus 2.0.3 and CentOS 5.8 x64. I have a choice which hypervisor to use: KVM or XEN. KVM is the default in CentOS 6 but I have read also many good things (for example PV guest machines, isolation between Dom0 and DomU) about XEN. Key factors from my opint of view are: - stability (which one runs more smoothly on CentOS?) - performance (XEN PV/HVM(with or without pv drivers) vs KVM HVM(with or without pv drivers)) - security Could you share your experience in these areas?
