server disk subsystem benchmarks, bonnie++ and/or others?

Greetings I've searched to no avail so far... there is bound to be something more intelligible out there...??? I am playing with bonnie++ for the first time... May I please get some advise and list experience on using this or other disk subsystem benchmark programs properly with or without a GUI ? Test system in this case is a Compaq DL360 with 2 to 4 Gig DRAM and qty (2) 36Gig 10k drives in hardware raid1 (raid1 default 128k) and a smart array 5304 controller with 128 meg dram The machine screams with this controller... yet I want to compare tests with it to the standard built in smart array controller etc Ive read bonnie++ stuff till I cant stand it no more and am just not seeing the relevance in the end result vectors to something tangible. Problems with 2.3TB disk

Hi Guys, I have a server running CentOS 4.2 with a 2.6.9-22EL-smp kernel. The system contains a 2.3 TB RAID 5 array. There is a 20GB root partition with the remainder of the drive configured one large LVM volume. (/u0) I have installed Veritas Netbackup on the server and am running a few tests. Small backups and restores work just fine. When I run a larger backup (500MB) and store the backup file on /u0/vrts the files within the backup cannot be restored. I thought at first this was a Veritas problem but have also discovered... I cannot do any of the following to the backup file: Use cat, dd or cp to copy the file. The first part of the file aproximately 24MB will copy and then I get the error message: Input/output error Checking dmesg shows: dm-0: rw=0, want=31933816664, limit=4838391808 attempt to access beyond end of device dm-0: rw=0, want=32472792952, limit=4838391808 attempt to access beyond end of device dm-0: rw=0, want=33011769240, limit=4838391808 attempt to access beyond end of device dm-0: rw=0, want=33550745528, limit=4838391808 attempt to access beyond end of device dm-0: rw=0, want=34089721816, limit=4838391808 How do I access the files in question? Any suggestions or enlightment would be greatly apreciated. Shawn

Using YUM to install after server only install

Hi Gang- I just installed Cent 4.4 using the server only CD. Possible to change selinux from permissive to disabled without rebooting?

Hiya all, After some problems the other day, I've tracked down a problem I've been having fairly definitely to selinux being on in permissive mode. sestatus shows it enabled and permissive. Is there a way to change from permissive to disabled without rebooting? (have changed config to disabled in /etc/selinux/config, but would rather not reboot atm). setenforce 0 keeps it in this same mode as I belive thats just for enforcing mode only anyway. Have tried googling and best I've seen is "not supported at this time" but wondering if anyone else has more hopeful info. CentOS at FOSDEM

Hi all, FOSDEM is coming and it would be nice if CentOS users and developers are present. FOSDEM will take place at 24 and 25 february 2007. (so mark those dates in your calendar!) I guess what we need is a wiki page about FOSDEM linked from some 'CentOS events' page and then people can start planning and indicating who's coming and what the topics could be. Since the developer rooms are usually limited, it may be useful to work together with Fedora to claim one. (I've send out a proposal to the Fedora ambassador who is in charge of FOSDEM) Things we may want to plan: + the 'hall' presence (usually a table to showcase and respond to questions) - what do we need to showcase CentOS, to attract visitors - volunteers to be present to answer questions (maybe a timetable) - flyers, business cards and posters ? (centos artwork) - how to keep things on a professional level (mostly these tables are pretty crowded and unorganised) + a developer's room - topics and speakers for presentation - topics and moderators for discussions + a social event during the evening - usually evenings are quite dull, you can either subsribe to the official overpriced dinner or, like most, go out and have a good time - the building closes at 18h (iirc) so the evening starts pretty early - there's a nice social event on friday evening to meet with other developers + locations to stay - maybe Belgian CentOS users can offer housing and/or travelling services (picking up people) Who's willing to help ? How to change where yum gets it's data

When I run yum update (as I said in a previous message), I get some errors stating that I have dependencies. One viewer stated that I am getting yum data that is out of date. Yet another yum/rpm update problem

I am in the process of updating a dozen or so workstations from CentOS 4.3 to CentOS 4.4. I set up a local YUM repository, and have been able to successfully update all systems except for one. Both yum and rpm either hang or core dump on this system. I've done a "yum clean all" and an "rpm --rebuilddb" (after deleting the __db files). I was able to successfully update yum itself, but now even a "yum --version" or "rpm -q yum" hang and can only be killed with a "kill -9 <pid>". Any suggestions on how to proceed?
