Beta CentOS 7 Xen packages available

At long last, I'd like to announce beta packages for CentOS 7, available from the community build system. Start by installing the centos-release-xen: rpm -ivh http://cbs.centos.org/repos/virt7-xen-44-testing/x86_64/os/Packages/centos-… This will set up yum repositories for both the eventual release repositories (enabled by default), and the community build system repositories (disabled by default). At the moment, all packages will be stored in the virt-xen-44-testing repository. You can either enable this by default by editing /etc/yum.repos.d/VirtSIG-Xen.repo, or by adding "--enablerepo=virt-xen-44-testing". If you want, you can edit defaults /etc/sysconfig/xen-kernel Next, run 'yum update' to get the new kernel: yum --enablerepo=virt-xen-44-testing update kernel Now install xen: yum --enablerepo=virt-xen-44-testing install xen This should grab both xen and the updated kernel package. It should also automatically: * Add default commandline parameters for Xen and Linux when booting under Xen * Arrange for xen to come up first in the grub * Set the default boot entry to Xen. That's it! Reboot and you should be good to go. Libvirt packages aren't available yet but should be on the way soon (I'll announce them here.) Is it possible to use binary packages build from http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/ovirt-3.5/rpm/el7/SRPMS/qemu-kvm-ev-2.1.2-23… with plain CentOS 7.1 and use all other packages from CentOS (libvirt, virt-manager, etc) Is it have reasons, if I not use live migrations and qcow2 snapshots? (instead use zfs, zvols and zfs snapshots for VM disks online backups) Is using qemu-kvm-ev with CentOS 7.1 have any disadvantages? -- Best regards, Gena

How to kickstart a guest with Centos 6.6 & Xen 4.4

Hello, I posted a question over at xenproject.org but it was recommended that I send out a message here for help. My post there: http://www.xenproject.org/help/questions-and-answers/vanilla-pv-centos-gues… The TL;DR is: Everything I've found to kickstart a new vanilla rhel/centos guest points to specifying a kernel & and initrd- for RHEL/Centos 5. But where is the xen initrd for Centos 6? The Xen4Quickstart instructions are awesome, but after install you are left with a kernel and an initramfs & no initrd for a centos 6 guest in xen. So is there a better way to kickstart a fresh/vanilla VM post Xen4Quickstart instructions? Shall I build an initrd from the initramfs (and how) or is there another way? Apologies if this is discussed elsewhere, but if it is I have yet to find it and I've been looking around for some time. Thank you!

Timezone issues with migrations between host kernel 3.10 and 3.18

Hi All, I'm seeing clock issues with live migrations on the latest kernel packages, migrating a VM from 3.10.68-11 to 3.18.17-13 results in the VM clock being off by 7 hours (I'm PST, so appears to be a timezone issue). This is also between xen versions, but rolling the target back to 3.10 resolved so don't believe the recent XSA's are related. Anyone else seen behavior like this or have any ideas on how to resolve? - Nathan

XSA-138: Updated packages available (xen-4.4.2-5)

The Xen Project has publicly released XSA-138: http://xenbits.xen.org/xsa/advisory-138.html All users using HVM (fully virtualized) guests with emulated CDROM drives are advised to upgrade. missing bnx2x firmware files in Xen4CentOS CentOS6 kernel 3.18.12-11

Hi folks As mentioned in the subject, kernel-3.18.12-11 is missing firmware files required to run Broadcom/Qlogic network cards, driven by bnx2x driver. While in the source-rpm, there is a bnx2/bnx2x firmware tgz being applied during the rpm build, along with a patch adding these firmware files to firmware/Makefile, neither the tgz nor the patch contain the required firmware files. In 3.18, the driver bumped to version 1.710.51-0, requiring the following firmware files/versions to work: firmware: bnx2x/bnx2x-e2-7.10.51.0.fw firmware: bnx2x/bnx2x-e1h-7.10.51.0.fw firmware: bnx2x/bnx2x-e1-7.10.51.0.fw I helped myself by either copying the required firmware-files to the target-machines' /lib/firmware/bnx2x dir and ultimately by adding the files to the source-rpm along with a new Makefile patch and rebuilding the kernel rpms. However, as bnx2x NICs seem quite commonplace these days, I suggest to fix this 'upstream'. If required, I can provide the (trivial) patch. I pulled the firmware-files from a CentOS 7 stock kernel. I have signed and pushed the libvirt-1.2.15-3 and kenel-3.18.12-11 RPMs into the xen4 repository for CentOS-6.6. These have been in virt6-testing for a few months now with no negative reports. They should be available on mirror.centos.org in 30 or so minutes and externally as those mirrors update themselves against mirror. Thanks, Johnny Hughes

I am about to deploy a virtualisation cluster based on a storage server with 10 Gbps interfaces for iSCSI and two computing nodes running VMs in KVM that will access the storage via the 10 Gbps network. I am trying to find real use cases of people using CentOS 6 as an iSCSI target but can't find any. Anyone using a configuration similar to this one? Thanks in advance! Miguel

Golang packages in virt7-docker-common repo

Hi, This email is regarding golang-* packages and their repository. As kubernetes package is now updated in virt7-docker-common-* repo, it was discussed that all the golang-* packages should also go under the virt7-docker-common-* repo as well, presently they all are in virt7-testing repo. Also about package flannel, it is presently updated in virt7-testing repo. This package is used with kubernetes. Since kubernetes is now under virt7-docker-common-*, it was proposed to update the flannel package as well in virt7-docker-common-* repo. Thoughts? -- Navid

Adding a monitor socket to a virtual guest using virt-manager

Hi all, I need to add a monitor socket to a kvm guest as I can using qemu from coammnd line. Sample: -chardev socket,path=/tmp/sock0,server,nowait,id=sock0 -mon chardev=sock0,mode=control Is this prossible to add this to guest's xml config file?? If not, (and If I am not wrong), could it be possible to add these options inside "/etc/libvirt/hooks/qemu" startup script?? Some example?? Thanks.

Windows 10 tech preview build 10130

Hi Everyone, Has anyone managed to install Windows 10 tech preview build 10130 as a KVM on a CentOS 6 host? I'm having problems that I haven't been able to get past. I can get the CD to boot and the install process to begin, but Windows keeps complaining about missing drivers. I've unsuccessfully tried the VirtIO ISOs from the Fedora project. The images I tried were: virtio-win-0.1-100.iso virtio-win-0.1.105.iso virtio-win-0.1.96.iso I have two IDE CD-ROMs attached which appears to be working fine (otherwise the installer wouldn't start and I wouldn't be able to traverse the VirtIO ISO). The NIC was an e1000, but I changed it to rtl8139. I've changed the HD from IDE, to Virtio iscsi to Virtio disk and none of that has seemed to help. I'd appreciate some pointers/tips. Live migration using shared storage in different networks

Hi! I am building a KVM cluster that needs VM live migration. My shared storage as well as the KVM hosts will be running CentOS. Because 10 Gbps Ethernet switches are very expensive at the moment I will connect the KVM hosts to the storage by cross-over cables and create private networks for each connection (10.0.0.0/30 and 10.0.0.4/30).
