Xen4CentOS e1000e package

KB and I were looking at repositories to import into git.centos.org recently, and we found the e1000e package -- a rebuild of the Intel e1000 driver for the x4c kernel. Does anyone know if this externally-build module is still necesssary for Linux 3.10? Or for Linux 3.14, which we're planning on moving to at some point in the near future? -George

How to run cloud image for 6.5?

Hi, On my way to run centOS 6.5 on OpenStack I found the cloud images at http://cloud.centos.org/centos/6.5/devel/ and while the corresponding image for centOS 7 seems to work fine, I still need the older version for some legacy application, but I cannot find a way to run the images provided in that directory. Especially I'm looking at http://cloud.centos.org/centos/6.5/devel/CentOS-6.5-x86_64-GA-03.img.gz, but as well uploading the unzppied .img file to OpenStack as image and trying to boot an instance with it, as well as runinng it locally with qemu-system-i386 CentOS-6.5-x86_64-GA-03.img both give me the same error - "Boot failed - not a bootable disk" Any idea what I could be doing wrong / should be doing to get it booting? although i am very new to the xen project, this approach makes good sense to me. consistent with the use of files within /etc/sysconfig and very predictable and sensible behavior. also seems like it is a good base to build from when adding future features. is it ready yet :} r. > We need a way to do two things to /usr/bin/grub-bootxen.sh in Xen4CentOS. > > 1. So... it is theorized that XSA-108 is why amazon is rebooting. Is there any way for me to know when this update hits CentOS5 or xen4centos6? Do we know that it is *not* included in one of the centos patches?

Issues with Ubuntu 14 as a guest VM, and network throughput..

I have a CentOS 6.5 server running as a host for about a dozen other VM's, and all were running just fine. I had a mix of CentOS, Ubuntu, and FreeBSD VM's running, no problem at all. I then updated the Ubuntu VM's to the newer 14.x release, and that installed a 3.13 linux kernel, and after that (which I didn't notice right at the start) the network throughput outbound was abysmal at best. Where before I could move an ISO image in just moments, trying to send out an image from the VM now took forever, with constant timeouts. I tried it on multiple Ubuntu VM's and all have the exact same issue. I thought this is strange, the older 12.x stuff ran just fine, so I thought well the networking is in the kernel so let's back up the kernel. So I grabbed a 3.11 kernel and loaded it, and that was a good improvement, but still no winner, so then I backed off to a 3.8.13 kernel which seemed to be the newest of the 3.8's, and bingo everything started working fine. I then tried a couple Ubuntu machines that were standalone boxes (not VM's) with the newer 3.13 it loads by default, and running independent like that throughput is great, so it's some interaction with the qemu/kvm host. Has anyone run into this, or have any idea, or know of any tunable changes I can make that would make the VM play nice with the newer recommended kernel? I was actually stunned changing kernels made the diff between getting hundreds of megs of throughput on the host, to getting a meg or two if lucky, with constant pauses. At the same time, my other CentOS and FBSD VM's seem to run fine, but then again CentOS sticks with an older kernel it seems. --- Howard

vTPM manager for Xen

Hello everyone, I am sorry for interrupting your work I am following the correspondence in silence. I am trying to build a vtpm implementation into xen 6.2 but I was not able to find all the means to do it. What can be found is just abstract knowledge. Most of the info always forwards me to this doc http://xenbits.xen.org/docs/unstable/misc/vtpm.txt I found the tpm emulator 0.7.4 and build it into centos 5.9 x64 PV vm. I have access from that VM to the TPM as well via trousers. What I cannot find is the vTPM manager that distributes vTpms to domains. Is this feature deprecated ? Nobody anywhere is talking about it. I am a little confused as there was measurement boot module supporting TXT boot released by citrix not long ago but there is no doc that can give me any info on how to/ or where from to get that management TPM software. Just a reminder, the Virt SIG meeting is tomorrow on IRC (channel #centos-devel) at 1pm UTC (2pm BST, 9am EST). I've (finally) done a draft update of the Virt SIG roadmap: http://wiki.centos.org/SpecialInterestGroup/Virtualization/Roadmap The concept I had was to have a number of different "projects" within the SIG (Xen, Docker, Xapi, oVirt), each with its own maintainer that would be in charge of the packages. The page is meant to be able to help people get an idea of what each project's overall goal, component packages and how to submit modifications (via git pull requests), status, and miscellaneous other things that need to be done. We should probably define at least a very basic path for approving projects / maintainers, getting rid of inactive projects, &c. I'd be fine with, "Someone makes a proposal on centos-virt with $INFORMATION; Lars and / or KB approve it" to begin with; we can always add more structure later if we need. Anyway, all just ideas -- we can talk about it at the meeting tomorrow. -George

libvirt/kvm changes /dev/ttyS0

A new kvm guest on a CentOS6.5 x84_64 host is set up to make use of the serial port (virt-install ... --serial dev,path=/dev/ttyS0) <serial type='dev'> <source path='/dev/ttyS0'/> <target port='0'/> </serial> <console type='dev'> <source path='/dev/ttyS0'/> <target type='serial' port='0'/> </console> When I launch the vm, setroubleshootd goes into overdrive and creates massive logs, and /var/log/messages starts growing significantly also. The reason is that as soon as the vm starts, ownership and context of /dev/ttyS0 on the host are being reset. Why is that, and how can I prevent it from happening? Should be: crw-rw----. root dialout system_u:object_r:tty_device_t:s0 /dev/ttyS0 Changes to: crw-rw----. qemu qemu unconfined_u:object_r:svirt_image_t:s0:c9,c796 /dev/ttyS0

How do I do Centos 7 p2v migration?

Hi, I am trying to figure out how to do p2v and v2v migrations on a Centos 7 kvm host. With previous versions there was virt-p2v but that does not seem to exist with Centos-7. I realize that if I am using shared storage, I can do live migrations but that does not help with p2v migrations. Does anyone know what the recommended procedure is for migrating either physical or virtual machines to Centos-7 is? I have tried searching for the answer but my google foo is not being helpful.
