Many thanks for your prompt and accurate info, Karanbir and yet special thanks to Johnny Hughes. I am going to follow your advice right now. In fact we have a 3.4 site also and found it incomparably more stable than ever, and have been discussing migration of our old sites. But Ovirt is, as you know, very update-hostile system: We still have another 3.0 site working. Thanks again.

Dear sirs, We are operating an Ovirt-3.1(2) based virtual server system with approx 10 CentOS6+vdsm nodes. Engine and node server's were build using RPMs installed through the here-below Yum repository, according to the HowTo on the CentOS site (http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/oVirt) http://dev.centos.org/centos/6/ovirt/ovirt.repo While I have another node server to add, I kew that this repository does not exists any more. I would be glad if someone could tell me where we can find the archives. Thanks in advance Hideo Goto

Masking CPU flags via libvirt xml not working?

Hi, Has anyone here managed to get cpu masking working via libvirt? Intention to enable VM migrations between hosts of a different CPU generation. Inside my xml I'm providing the model as well as a list of features to specifically disable, but none of it seems to take any effect. On booting the VM I still see the disabled flags in /proc/cpuinfo <cpu match='exact' mode='custom'> <arch>x86_64</arch> <model fallback='forbid'>Westmere</model> <feature policy='disable' name='dtherm'/> <feature policy='disable' name='erms'/> <feature policy='disable' name='fsgsbase'/> <feature policy='disable' name='pts'/> <feature policy='disable' name='pln'/> <feature policy='disable' name='rdrand'/> <feature policy='disable' name='f16c'/> <feature policy='disable' name='aes'/> <feature policy='disable' name='tsc_deadline_timer'/> <feature policy='disable' name='x2apic'/> <feature policy='disable' name='dtherm'/> <feature policy='disable' name='pclmulqdq'/> </cpu> Doing a dumpxml against the domU once it's booted leaves out the entire <cpu> section, leading me to think maybe libvirt is dropping it for some reason. I've got the above <cpu> just in the main <domain> section. Anyone have this working or able to offer some suggestions? Thanks! - Nathan

Xen 4.4.1-rc1+ rebase

I've got a first cut of the rebase here: git://github.com/gwd/sig-virt-xen out/update-4.4.1-rc1-ee81dda-RFC To build it, you'll need to download the polarssl tarball: http://xenbits.xen.org/xen-extfiles/polarssl-1.1.4-gpl.tgz And you'll need a tarball based on (unfortunately) a private tree, which you can find here: git://github.com/gwd/xen base/update-4.4.1-rc1-ee81dda-RFC This branch is based on upstream ee81dda (the current staging-4.4), with an additional two backported commits. To reproduce the tarball, checkout the above branch, then: ./configure make -C tools qemu-xen-dir-find make -C tools qemu-xen-traditional-find make src-tarball A couple of notes: * I haven't actually had time to test this yet! This is just so we're not totally duplicating work... * This does not have XSA-100 in it yet, so it's not quite ready for release. -George

KVM integrated network (user mode) dying after inactivity

So, I'd like to ask here whether anyone else has run into this. I have multiple CentOS 6 machines running using KVM to virtualize a bunch of machines on them (LVM-based). Software releases as following: [root@fe00 ~]# rpm -qa|egrep '(virt|kvm)' virt-viewer-0.5.6-8.el6_5.3.x86_64 libvirt-python-0.10.2-29.el6_5.7.x86_64 libvirt-client-0.10.2-29.el6_5.7.x86_64 qemu-kvm-0.12.1.2-2.415.el6_5.8.x86_64 libvirt-0.10.2-29.el6_5.7.x86_64 python-virtinst-0.600.0-18.el6.noarch [root@fe00 ~]# uname -r 2.6.32-431.17.1.el6.x86_64 The VMs (here: two) have the "default" connection provided by KVM (heading to the internet) as well as a bridged interface to connect to a high performance backbone, where sensitive data is kept and bandwidth is an issue (or better, not :), on a second interface within the VMs: [root@fe00 ~]# brctl show bridge name bridge id STP enabled interfaces br1 8000.001b21xxxxxx yes eth1 vnet1 vnet3 virbr0 8000.525400xxxxxx yes virbr0-nic vnet0 vnet2 br1 is the interface connected to the backbone, virbr0 KVM's user mode network. After some time of inactivity on the virbr0 interface, from *within* the VMs connection is *lost*. The interface(s) lose their IP; running dhclient(8) is not of any use. To get the machine back onto track, ``service libvirtd restart'' has to be issued: Vanished iptables rules show up again. (This, in contrast to an Ubuntu document [0], fixes it without shutting the VM(s) down.) Starting dhclient(8) within the VMs gets connectivity back. Just out of curiosity I let one of the VMs cause some ICMP traffic now and then hit the interface -- ``ping -i 10 some.nice.host'' is sufficient to keep that interface alive. The virbr0-headed interfaces are almost only being used to get updates etc -- management and load-balanced services are being served by the bridged interface. Is this a bug or a feature? Frequent Kernel Oops' on CentOS 6 / Xen

Of course that just changes the disk image itself... and not the drivers inside... so if you do convert it (I'd recommend working on a copy)... then you'll probably have to pull the VirtualBox guest addons out... and install the KVM guest stuff... but it shouldn't be that difficult.
