Updated ruby packages

There are updated ruby packages in the development repository at dev.centos.org. The updated packages bring ruby to 1.8.5. Additional packages are now available for ruby-mysql and ruby-postgresql also. These packages are the gem files providing mysql.so and the like. PostgreSQL 8.1.4 in the Testing repository

All, We have a PostgreSQL 8.1.4 in the testing repository. Would everyone who has used it / is using it please reply to this thread. We want to move this to CentOSPlus (this version has been in has been in testing since May, and a version 8 has been in testing since Dec of last year). php 5.2 vs php 5.0.4 in CentOS 4.4 Contrib repo

I needed php 5 or greater on my centos server. I enabled CentOSPlus by editing /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo (Based on http://www.jimohalloran.com/2005/08/30/php-5-for-centos-41/) But I got php 5.0.4, on running my application I am facing some bugs. A lot of bugs have been fixed http://www.php.net/ChangeLog-5.php after the release of 5.0.4 close to an year ago. Is there any reason why we do not have php 5.2 in the CentOSPlus repo ? I would be willing to work to put php5.2 in the CentOSPlus repo, any pointers on what I should do ? Thanks for your help. -- Vikas

RPMS and REPOS and REPO-Linkages

When an rpm is built for CentOS-Extras or CentOS-Plus, is it safe to assume that people using these repo's only use them for specific rpms ( eg, someone with a stock CentOS install might use the CentOS-Plus repo for php-5 and only php-5 ) or are most people enabling the entire repo ? This question comes from the idea of when building a package, should a rpm, hosted in CentOS-Plus link against only [base]+[updates] and only use the minimum possible set of packages from [centosplus] ? So as to have a situation wherein you can use selective packages from CentOS-Plus, while not needing any support stuff from there ( eg. postfix-mysql in CentOS-Plus should link against mysql-4.1 since thats whats in [base] rather than mysql-5 which is in CentOS Plus ) This does create a risk that we might end up creating packages that are themselves incompatible with other packages from the same repository, but work fine when used with the [base] packages for the same functionality. The other option is to have the entire CentOS-Plus repo enabled for any packages built for the same repo, which might mean that using php-5 from CentOS-Plus needs MySQL-5 and pgsql-8 from CentOS Plus also installed. CentOS Xen kernels

Is anyone working on porting the xensource-provided RHEL3 and RHEL4 Xen kernels to centOS? I've been poking the xensource-provided kernels, and they seem to work okay (though only on i686 platforms- I haven't gotten 'em to compile on x86_64) on my client's RHEL systems. I host a bunch of CentOS Xen DomUs, so it would be really cool if I could re-use the "poke at the RHEL kernels" work for those CentOS domains as well- but from what I understand, I'm not supposed to just re-distribute the RHEL stuff without stripping out some stuff.

Hello, I'm attempting to update the PHP packages on my CentOS 4.4 server (x86_64). I'm currently running PHP 5.0.x from the "centosplus" repo. The goal is to run PHP 5.1.x, which is in the "testing" (dev.centos.org) repository. However, I'm finding that attempts to "yum update php\*" results in a php-pear dependency error: ---snip--- Error: Missing Dependency: php = 5.0.4-5.centos4 is needed by package php-pear ---snip--- I've tried to sidestep the issue by removing the currently installed php* packages, and then installing the stuff from dev.centos.org. Doing this, I find that php-pear-1.4.9-1.centos.noarch.rpm doesn't install the PEAR DB module (DB.php), which my applications require. Has anyone else seen this? What am I doing wrong? Thanks Ryan
