anaconda dependency calculation?

Hi all, I'm trying to find a tool that calculates all dependencies for a specific package or group of packages for use with CentOS 5 (beta) with the intention of putting together a custom single CD build of CentOS 5. With CentOS 4 i used a python script that used the hdrlist module to find all dependencies which borrowed code from a number of sources. I've looked at yumdownloader and how it checks dependencies (using the --resolve option) but if i pass it the list of packages defined in say the Base and the Core yum groups which generally form an absolute minimal install i end up with about 200 packages. If i do a custom install (using beta 1 disks) and deselect everything i end up with over 300 packages. So i'm guessing anaconda calculates dependencies in a slightly different way, can anyone point me to files/code where i should be looking to find out? If it is possible to trash the harddisk and fill it with the bare stuff to make it work I am willing to lend access to the system for developers and also do some things myself. presto / deltarpm

hi, The idea of yum-presto and deltarpm support on mirror.centos.org is something that seems to be worth visiting again. I am just wondering if there is anyone who would like to grab the issue, do the testing, workout whats involved and then try and come up with an implementation plan ? humm.. <issue> https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2007-1020.html release tags indicate it was built against 5.1, something we have not seen as yet.... </issue> Options: 1) We build it with what we have at the moment, 5.0 + Updates 2) We wait for 5.1 before building it ( Note: it _is_ a security issue... so keep this in mind ) 3) We build it now against 5.0 and Tag it accordingly, and then rebuild it when 5.1 is out and then change Tag to 5_1. Patched version of iptables for centosplus

Hi, I would like to contribute a patched version of iptables to the centosplus repository. The patch enabled some extra extensions. For these extensions the kernel modules exist but not the iptables extensions to be able to use them. The patched version of iptables fixes this. What is the procedure to follow here? new freenx and nx RPMS released, manual action for x86_64

There are new RPMS released for nx and freenx in the CentOS-4 and CentOS-5 Extras repository. I normally do not announce that here, as those can easily be obtained on a normal "yum upgrade/update", however in this case there are special actions required *_IF_* you have the x86_64 architecture for either CentOS-4 or CentOS-5 with the current versions of nx and freenx installed. The freenx and nx in the x86_64 tree were i386 versions prior to this release because the nomachine code would not compile on x86_64. This release fixes that and the new versions are x86_64 RPMS and no longer i386. This means that YUM will not update the currently installed i386 RPMS that are installed on x86_64 machines. ============= *_ATTENTION_* ============= If you are running nx and freenx on x86_64, to get these upgraded you *_MUST_*: 1. Manually download the x86_64 RPMS from these location: CentOS-5: <http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5/extras/x86_64/RPMS/freenx-0.7.1-1.el5.cen…> <http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5/extras/x86_64/RPMS/nx-3.0.0-4.el5.centos.…> CentOS-4: <http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/extras/x86_64/RPMS/freenx-0.7.1-1.el4.cen…> <http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/extras/x86_64/RPMS/nx-3.0.0-4.el4.centos.…> 2. Again ... this is *_ONLY_* required if you have the prior released i386 versions of nx and freenx installed on the X86_64 arch of either CentOS-4.x or CentOS-5.x. Hi, I'm preparing Centos 5 with backported ICH9 patches. I've built kernels, made iso and everything seems ok. Now I want the iso to include patched vmlinuz during the boot time, in isolinux folder. Once replaced CD boots fine too, but finally complains about wrong CD and asks to insert insert CentOS CD. There's something I have to change and I do not know what. Any hints? Thanks, David

src.rpm missing

hi, it seems there are many packages in extras and centosplus for which the src.rpms are missing eg.: for kmod rpms there is not any src.rpms or just for one old version. imho it's a bug. -- Levente "Si vis pacem para bellum!"

According to RHSA-2007:0513-01 there is an update at ftp://updates.redhat.com/enterprise/2.1AS/en/os/SRPMS/gimp-1.2.1-7.8.el2_1.… but I am unable to find the file there or in any of the other usual places. Does anyone have access to this file? kmod-xfs-2.6.18-8.el5 missing from extras

hi, the kmod-xfs-2.6.18-8.el5 rpm missing from extras. since this is the base kernel shipped with centos/redhat it'd be useful to include kernel modules for this kernel in extras too. since all installer (cdrom, network, etc) use this kernel for boot and install. therefore if someone like to create a new initrd (eg for new network card or filesystem support) than the easiest to modify the shipped inird. that's whay i need kmod-xfs-2.6.18-8.el5 too. thanks in advance. -- Levente "Si vis pacem para bellum!"

kernel module for RTL8110SC in centos-5 (r1000 vs r8169)

hi, many intel motherboard use RTL8110SC network adapter. there is a description on page: http://wiki.centos.org/HardwareList/CentOS5/RealTek/r1000 how one can use r1000 kernel module for centos. unfortunately this driver seems to wrong. if you read carefully realtek download page and the latest source of r1000 (1.07) the r1000 is _only_ for 2.4.x kernel and for 2.6 it's called r8169! the worst thing r1000 seems to working most of the time but at random stage it stop working (eg: after init 4). the source you can download from realtek r8168... is more stable on 2.6.x kernel. i try to add this info to the above page, but it's immutable. in the mean time you can download kernel modules from here: http://www.lfarkas.org/linux/packages/centos/5/ -- Levente "Si vis pacem para bellum!"

Xen crash

Hi Centos-devel, I'm new to this list and joined since I am volunteering as a tech admin for a non profit organization called CouchSurfing (.com) where we tried to move the web servers to Xen zones and this has proven quite unstable since the our defined zones tends to crash on a daily basis with the latest CentOS 5 Xen updates. The physical boxes have 2 quad core 1.6GHz Xeon CPU's and 4 GB RAM, there is currently only 1 domain on each box, configured with 2.2GB RAM. Domain 0: [root@nd10254 ~]# rpm -qa | grep xen xen-libs-3.0.3-25.0.4.el5 kernel-xen-2.6.18-8.1.8.el5 kernel-xen-2.6.18-8.1.14.el5 xen-3.0.3-25.0.4.el5 Web1: [root@web1 ~]# rpm -qa | grep xen kernel-xen-2.6.18-8.1.8.el5 kernel-xen-2.6.18-8.1.14.el5 The Domain0 zone is indeed rock stable, while the Web1 etc. are crashing daily with the 2.6.18-8.1.14 Xen kernel and the stack trace we see after a few hours is as follows: BUG: soft lockup detected on CPU#5! I'm looking into migrating the openpbx package from Rawhide to Centos, and it has a BuildRequirement on fedora-usermgmt-devel. Is there an equivalent package in CentOS, or how does one structure the spec file to allow building for either distro?
