We are about to release an initial internal test release of CentOS 5 beta to our qa team. If folks here want to be a part of that test they need to join the centos-qa list (http://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos-qa) and send a message to this list (centos-devel) saying that they would like to be a part of the qa process and join the qa team, with details of relevant experience if you are not known to the core developers. Back-port md raid1/10 BIO_RW_SYNC patch for DRBD

Attention CentOS Developers, Here is a back-port of Lars Ellenberg's md raid1/10 patch from 2.6.19+ to 2.6.9. It seems the md raid1 and raid10 drivers were stripping the BIO_RW_SYNC flags on requests which caused a severe performance penalty for DRBD when writing it's meta-data to these volumes. The patch is attached as well as inlined: ---------- BEGIN ---------- Subject: md: pass down BIO_RW_SYNC in raid{1,10} From: Lars Ellenberg <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> md raidX make_request functions strip off the BIO_RW_SYNC flag, thus introducing additional latency. Probably you guys will notice this yourselves, but I figured I'd mention it just in case. Kernel used on installation media.

Hi all, I hope this is not too off topic. I've searched the -devel archives, but haven't found clear-cut information on this, so thought I'd ask. I am trying to determine the kernel configuration used to build the kernel used on the installation media (CD #1 or the vmlinuz/initrd.img files in their respective images/boot.iso or images/diskboot.img files). My guess is the kernel configurations are not identical to the ones ultimately used to build the kernels used on the system once it is up and running.... I ask because I am interested in rebuilding the kernel used on CD #1 to boot into the installer. Thanks for any pointers. Ray

When I installed RHEL5 beta 2 yesterday, I came across the so-called installation number. It's used as a "serial" to unlock number-related functionality of the software. In other words, there is a key for the client version and one for the server version. And within those options, there are also different possibilities, like with or without visualisation. Hello, After reading on this mailing list that anyone interested in testing the Beta of CentOS5 should send a mail to the QA department. I got a answer back that I should make a posting here. So, here goes. After using CentOS for some time now, I would like to do something back for the community. If useful, I can test CentOS 5-beta on a test server I have for these kind of things. It it a ProLiant ML350 with a Compaq 431 RAID controler and three SCSI disks. Testing could be related to webserver, ftp, installation, etc. Since I am Dutch, checking of the language-translation could also be done. About myself, I work as a QA/QA Manager and have the responsibility for the ISO9001 Quality System. Besides that, I am also the webmaster of the companies websites. Looking forward to assist! Hi folks, I've read with interest the next references: http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-devel/2006-April/002216.html http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=1299 Currently I'm using the package without problems. In fact, I installed it from source before and I used the perl modules provided by Dries' and Dag's repo in first time. At present moment I've removed the mentioned packages and I've used only the c4-testing repo. All the installation and dependencies resolving processes has worked great. Good work Johnny ;) ¿Are there some intentions to move BackupPC from testing-repo to extras-repo? I think it is an interesting package, especially in hybrid environment (Win+Linux, ie.)

The latest aria2 (0.10.0+1) can autocorrect metalink downloads if they contain chunk checksums. Basically, your finished download should have no errors when it's done, similar to rsync and BitTorrent downloads. And it should be pretty fast (depending on your connection speed) by using multiple mirrors. This automatic error correction is especially nice for ISO downloads, because usually if there is an error in transfer, it messes up the ISO and the full file checksum doesn't match, so you have to download the whole file again (or use rsync or similar). >From Tatsuhiro Tsujikawa, aria2 author: "As of 0.10.0 aria2 supports chunk checksum in Metalink: it validates chunk checksums while downloading a file like BitTorrent. Language lists

Hi Guys, We've been looking at the idea of starting off local language lists starting with German, Spanish and Portuguese. These, since we have had people ask for lists and we feel there are people around who can help moderate and monitor. While some work has already been done and there are already some ideas floating around, I'd like to ask everyone here on centos-devel what they think about this and if any suggestions they might have. Dear CentOS developers, there is a demand for ready-to-boot virtual machine images for distros like CentOS. Since i am an afinicado of CentOS and Xen, i would like to build and maintain a CentOS5-image. Is centos.org interested in hosting such a sub-project? Testing and tasting CentOS would get much easier, it would help making CentOS more popular.
