anaconda dependency calculation?

Hi all, I'm trying to find a tool that calculates all dependencies for a specific package or group of packages for use with CentOS 5 (beta) with the intention of putting together a custom single CD build of CentOS 5. With CentOS 4 i used a python script that used the hdrlist module to find all dependencies which borrowed code from a number of sources. I've looked at yumdownloader and how it checks dependencies (using the --resolve option) but if i pass it the list of packages defined in say the Base and the Core yum groups which generally form an absolute minimal install i end up with about 200 packages. If i do a custom install (using beta 1 disks) and deselect everything i end up with over 300 packages. So i'm guessing anaconda calculates dependencies in a slightly different way, can anyone point me to files/code where i should be looking to find out? yum 2.4.3 updates for CentOS 3 and 4 in the testing repo

Hi all, We have added yum 2.4.3 updates for CentOS 3 and 4 to the CentOS testing repository. These packages introduce the following changes: * CentOS 4: yum now requires the yum-metadata-parser package. This is a backport of the yum C metadata parser, and provides an significant performance increase over the Python metadata parser. * CentOS 3: this is the first release of yum 2.4 for CentOS 3, and we plan to provide this as an optional upgrade through the CentOSPlus repository. We have added code to yum 2.4 for default kernel handling (as setting the default kernel after kernel updates was handled by yum 2.0). Additionally, the package also requires the yum C metadata parser. Please test these RPMs, and provide feedback. We are especially interested in stress testing of the new components (default kernel handling on CentOS 3, and the C metadata parser on CentOS 3 and 4). I use up2date in preference to yum simply because it automates the process of getting matching source. I think I found the answer. The new version of bonding has a bug in it that doesn't restore the original mac addresses on termination and will leave the mac address on the interface it was last on. Then, as ifdown is called on each slave it will hit a slave whose mac address has changed and is a dup of the other slave and it will hang there. Then I saw this post on the dkms-devel mailing list: http://lists.us.dell.com/pipermail/dkms-devel/2007-May/000562.html I don't pretend to understand the issue discussed in there, but is this something you might need to consider? SRPMS for updates for RHEL5?

I'm just curious. Does anyone know where Red Hat publishes the SRPMS for the updates for RHEL5? I notice that: ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/updates/enterprise/ doesn't have a directory for RHEL5. Just wondering if Red Hat is changing things around or not. Main reason I was interested is that I have a problem with the selinux-policy-targeted RPM which has been fixed in FC6 but I haven't seen any updates for CentOS 5 or as far as I can tell for RHEL 5. auto-fixed-version-deps checking and rebuilding

so before I go reinvent the wheel... does anyone want to recommend a process / toolset that can check for fixed-version deps in a repository and rebuild the failing deps against a new version of the deprecated package ? eg. when a new kernel is built, I want to get a list of all the packages in the repo that depended on the older version of the kernel, and who no longer work with the newer one. If there are hooks in this tool to allow me to plumb in a auto-rebuild-into-a-testing-repo process, that would be star! The most obvious way seems to be checking the entire repo for closure and whatever fails, take some action - but that is not a really good way to check which side is failing. And it also means the new rpms need to be already in a binary format before I can run the test, so thats not going to work. What I was thinking of doing was to import the repo metadata, remove details for the package being superseded, get a before and after picture, then queue in the now-failing packages behind the new package being built.
