yum 2.4.3 updates for CentOS 3 and 4 in the testing repo

Hi all, We have added yum 2.4.3 updates for CentOS 3 and 4 to the CentOS testing repository. These packages introduce the following changes: * CentOS 4: yum now requires the yum-metadata-parser package. This is a backport of the yum C metadata parser, and provides an significant performance increase over the Python metadata parser. * CentOS 3: this is the first release of yum 2.4 for CentOS 3, and we plan to provide this as an optional upgrade through the CentOSPlus repository. We have added code to yum 2.4 for default kernel handling (as setting the default kernel after kernel updates was handled by yum 2.0). Additionally, the package also requires the yum C metadata parser. Please test these RPMs, and provide feedback. We are especially interested in stress testing of the new components (default kernel handling on CentOS 3, and the C metadata parser on CentOS 3 and 4). nx-3.0.0 RPMS

There are some NX-3.0.0 RPMS that currently seem to work OK with the current freenx (0.6.0-13) backend (for centos-5). They do not do all the new things that nx-3.0 can do (we are waiting on a new freenx that does those things) ... however this version does compile on x86_64 (and there is also a version of freenx for x86_64 as well). Currently there is a symlink to /usr/lib/NX for 64bit OSes as well ... but that also should be cleared up when the new FreeNX is released. For anyone who wants native x86_64 support, these should be OK, at least for testing. Thanks, Johnny Hughes

Hello, I took the fedora core 6 srpms for orage, xarchiver and arj to rebuild them for centos 5 with the hope that these packages will soon find it's way into centos. Orage is a Time-managing application for Xfce4. Xarchiver is a lightweight GTK2 only frontend for manipulating 7z, arj, bzip2, gzip, iso, rar, lha, tar, zip, RPM and deb files. It allows you to create archives and add, extract, and delete files from them. Password protected archives in the arj, 7z, rar, and zip formats are supported. The arj package is an open source version of the arj archiver. This version has been created with the intent to preserve maximum compatibility and retain the feature set of original ARJ archiver as provided by ARJ Software, Inc. where is the centos build architecture?

hi, is there an way to access to the centos release build architecure? not to use it just see how it's working? eg i'd like to know create the centos/5/os/i386/images/pxeboot/initrd.img file which module was selected to include in it etc. afais there no source for this on rh ftp site so probably these non rpm files are build by the centos team. is there any docs about it or can i see the script which generate it? thanks in advance. -- Levente "Si vis pacem para bellum!"

Problem by installing orage on xfce

Hello guys, I've rebuild and installed the orage rpm from fedora core 6. Everything works fine excepting the following: The icon for orage is missing in xfce settings and xfce-setting-show orage raised "No such plugin: orage" error message. The settings plugin is placed at at /usr/lib/xfce4/mcs-plugins/ where the other settings plugins are placed too. Any one an idea how to fix that problem? -- Heiko Adams <heiko.adams(a)gmx.de>

Rebuild of coreutils failing

Hi, I am trying to build the coreutils binary RPM from the CentOS 5.0 source RPM using: sudo rpmbuild --rebuild coreutils-5.97-12.1.el5.src.rpm However, it is erroring out with the following: Checking for unpackaged file(s): /usr/lib/rpm/check-files /var/tmp/coreutils-root error: Installed (but unpackaged) file(s) found: /usr/share/locale/af/LC_TIME/coreutils.mo ... /usr/share/locale/zh_TW/LC_TIME/coreutils.mo These are symbolic links to ../LC_MESSAGES/coreutils.mo which are not picked up by the %find_lang macro in the spec because the /usr/lib/rpm/find-lang.shscript uses '-type f' on its find. Any idea what may be wrong? By the way, here are the versions of some of the related rpms: rpm-4.4.2-37.el5 glibc-2.5-12 findutils-4.2.27-4.1 Thanks for any help, Rob

What's the expected way to package a Perl module? I want to build RPM's for several Perl modules and in the past on Fedora I'd use cpanflute2. What do I use on CentOS5? Is there a package to install to provide the necessary utility? I am currently building a Live CD for CentOS 5. I am using the tools from the livecd-tools project [1]. Here is my setup: - A workstation with CentOS 5 i386 - dosfstools 2.11-8 [2] - livecd-tools 009-3 [2] - pykickstart 1.0-1 [2] - syslinux 3.36-2 [2] To create a live CD, you need a kickstart configuration file[3]. You also need to increase the maximum number of open files: # ulimit -n 65535 Then, you can start the creation process (~30 minutes): # livecd-creator --config=centos-livecd-desktop.ks For more information regarding livecd-creator, you can read the Fedora How-to: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraLiveCD/LiveCDHowTo I am still trying to find the optimal combination of software for the live CD. Hi all, We have added an updated yum-utils to the CentOS testing repository for CentOS 5. This package now provides the yum-repolist plugin/subpackage, which implements comparable functionality to the same command in yum 3.2. Additionally, it also shows the priority or protection status of a repository when the yum-priorities or yum-protectbase plugin are installed respectively. Hi all, According to http://wiki.centos.org/SpecialInterestGroup I launch my request about XEN SIG . I think it would be interesting because XEN related topics in mail-list are usual at present day (especially since CentOS 5 with XEN support was released out). All of us are aware about the future of SO is the virtualization and it means XEN projecte will be more important. I work as a junior sysadmin in little reseller hosting company in Barcelona (Spain). We're planning to build our own datacenter (it will be little, of course) and the services will be based on CentOS+XEN.
