Help offer on Sparc front

If it is possible to trash the harddisk and fill it with the bare stuff to make it work I am willing to lend access to the system for developers and also do some things myself. I am not a programmer but I can spot the incidental error and maybe fix a typo or at least do my best to provide serious feedback in attempts to capture, reproduce and solve issues. If there is a basic kit somewhere to turn the former Solaris machine and set it on the road to Centos 5 I am willing to add my weight and push the cart along. hi, The idea of yum-presto and deltarpm support on mirror.centos.org is something that seems to be worth visiting again. I am just wondering if there is anyone who would like to grab the issue, do the testing, workout whats involved and then try and come up with an implementation plan ? Point yum repos to centos gpg key in /etc/pki/

Hi, as a follow up to a conversation in #centos-devel, I'd like to get input from the list on this issue. The question is where to point people, and tools like yum, for the centos gpg key used to verify rpm signatures. My opinion is that pointing to the key in /etc/pki/ which gets installed by the centos- release makes the most sense. This is already installed locally on any centos (-5) machine. See ie. http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=2419 From a security standpoint, there are issues with either choice. However, if your install media has been compromised, then there would be many other ways to bypass the gpg checks rather than just changing the gpg key from the centos-release package. Pointing to a URL for the gpg key opens up more security issues such as dns poisoning. -Jeff

QA Coordinator

Hello everyone, As most of you will probably know there was a CentOS developers day last Friday (before the FOSDEM event). One of the things discussed during that day was the need/use for a QA coordinator. I think the best way to describe the job role is that this person should be between the developers and the QA team and make sure that QA testing is efficient and on time (as best as we can get). Also the coordinator is the single point of contact for the developers to talk to the QA team and the other way around. I am the "lucky" person that will try to be this QA coordinator from now on. So I would like to make the following arrangements : Towards the developers. Let me know as soon as possible when there is something in the pipeline that will need to tested by the QA team. The sooner as I know the sooner that I get can the testers mobilized and ready. For the members of the QA team. If you are still interested in testing then make sure you are added to the QA Team page on the wiki (http://wiki.centos.org/QaTeam). During testing document all your findings on the wiki so we can keep track of things. I will try to make a test plan and some sort of schedule on the wiki for each release that needs to go through QA as soon that I'm aware that a release is coming for testing, so everybody knows when there is a need for testing. rpmRepo Web Apps Filesystem Directory

Dear Sirs, Another disappointing question for me is the desigend Web Apps directory. The Filesystem Hierarchy Standard recommends /srv/www but only one of the big, SuSE, uses it. Debian uses /var/www. Mandriva uses both /var/www and /usr/share. Red Hat used /var/www and now /usr/share. CentOS uses /usr/share and RPMForge uses /var/www. So my question is, what will be the future Web Apps directory for rpmRepo ? Be sure, I don't want to annoy anyone, I really want the best for CentOS that we use every day in our production environment. And this Filesystem Web Directory question is poisonning me for a while, when I want to mix up packages, but also to make the good choice for my own ones. CentOS 5.1 for ppc / ppc64

Range on #centos was nice enough to point me at a message from a few weeks ago which mentioned that PPC/IA64 support is/was going to be announced at Fosdem 08 at the end of the month. I work for a group that has a number of PPC64 machines (JS20/p690/p655/p615) that I would like to get off RHEL 4 and on to CentOS 5, so I've been keeping an eye out for any news on this front. I am interested in helping test/build this release in whatever ways I can. I would be glad to test on whatever machines the developers might find useful, and could designate one or more of our JS20 blades as build hosts if there's need for such a thing. missing two updates in csgfs repo...

Hi I am just wonderling if there is some problem getting out the packages: cman-1.0.17-0.el4_6.3.src.rpm fence-1.32.50-2.el4_6.1.src.rpm they where released in 1/feb/08 and 20/dic/07 respectibly according to this page: http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/rhel4.6.z-cluster-errata.html what it is strange to me is that in each release day they where other packages released that are already in centos csgfs repo. so, is there a problem recompiling or just some how the packages remain hide to the ayes of centos developer? thanks roger __________________________________________ RedHat Certified ( RHCE ) Cisco Certified ( CCNA & CCDA ) Ask a question on any topic and get answers from real people. Anaconda improvement for network installs

Hi, Today I got a nice feature request from an OpenSUSE friend :) When doing a network installation, it could be useful to have a centos-mirror pre-registered into the installation form so that you do not need a second system (or a reboot to your previous OS) to look up what the correct mirror address is. The actual suggestion was to have a pull-down list of mirrors per country, but with our mirror-setup a single entry would most likely do anyway. Plus it keeps the changes to anaconda down to a minimum ! This maybe something that we could take with us for CentOS 5.2 (and 4.7 and a 3.9 respin ?)
