modern-CentOS as a project ?

Guys, Could we move modern-CentOS wiki theme development into projects.centos.org/trac ?. It is not directly related to CentOS distribution but it would be very nice to learn manage it online with others, inside CentOS realm. Cheers, al.

CentOS-5 i586 status?

Hey all, I just had pretty poor luck installing CentOS-5 on one of these: http://koolu.com/Koolu-WE-Appliance/Works-Everywhere-Appliance.html I'm trying to turn this into a home server/router and think CentOS (with its long support cycles) is an ideal distribution for this sort of application. The catch, of course, is that its a AMD Geode (hence i586) based system, so the install doesn't get very far. I saw there was a recent thread on this list about i586 support for CentOS-5 and I was wondering if there is anyone currently working on that. If there is I'd be interested in helping out. Location of test/pre-release RHEL4 kernels?

There used to be pre-release RHEL4 kernels at <http://people.redhat.com/~jbaron/rhel4/> - but that URL is no longer available. Does anyone know if these kernels RPMS are available elsewhere? Thanks James Pearson

We have CentOS Forums here: http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/ Akemi Yagi (toracat on IRC) and Fabian Arrotin (arrfab on IRC) are the Forum Moderators. There are a lot of posts there that I find helpful when doing web searches ... but we could use more people answering questions there. Hi, there. is this letter meet the purpose of your list. I meet a problem on installing CentOS4.4 ServerCD. I want to use HP Embedded SATA RAID controller. But CentOS does not support this controller driver. And HP too. I searched so many site on the internet. Finally, I found some information, jakie wrote on www.centos.org topic -> http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=5695&forum=29&po… I did same way he wrote (1) Connect USB FlashDisk on USB. this has SATA RAID driver for REDHAT 4. named... "adpahci-1.2.5571-1.rhel4.x86_64.dd". (2) Boot from CentOS ServerCD 4.4 x86-64bit. (3) linux dd: ------------> install.......... (4) I can see Single Disk. (5) Install.... My system is : OS : CentOS 4.4 Server CD HP DL320G5 3050 HDD : 2*80GB Seagate SATA II HDD RAID : HP Embedded SATA RAID Controller. All process is clear. And there is no error msg. But reboot after install finished, there are some error messages..... some partition mount failed. "/usr", "/sys" are failed to mount but "/boot", "/", "/tmp", "var" and most partitions are mounted. Prompt appear, I enter on the system. there is no files in "/usr" directory. So, I can't use "yum", "rpm", "up2date" and so on. Is this ServerCD's problem? And How can I solve this problem ? Thank you.

Trying to recompile the openldap overlay smbk5pwd with the -DDO_KRB5 option

I have heimdal and openldap installed on a server. I used the openldap binaries from the testing branch, and I installed heimdal from source with the --with-openldap option. When I try to use the smbk5pwd module to sync heimdal and ldap passwords, I receive the following error: Checking configuration files for slapd: /etc/openldap/slapd.conf: line 167: smbk5pwd: <smbk5pwd-enable> module "smbk5pwd-enable" only allowed when compiled with -DDO_KRB5. I downloaded and installed the src.rpm from testing, but I don't know how to recompile the overlays rpm with that option. Can someone tell me how to do this? - Scott

WebStack on CentOS-5

hi, Background: the webstack on C4 is only available in the CentOSPlus repo since it overwrites packages from the base repo. For the Webstack on C5, Johnny and I spoke about and want to propose changing that a little bit. Essentially, move the webstack to a subdirectory under the CentOSPlus repo and have metadata for Just the Webstack available as an option for people who dont want the rest of CentOSPlus. The default action will remain the same. i.e. people who have the plus repo enabled, will see the entire published webstack in exactly the same way as they did for c4. Ofcourse the aim will be to ensure we get 100% dep closure on Base+Updates+WebStack as well as Base+Updates+Plus. Where Plus will include WebStack + other packages. We hope to address a few issues ( in order of importance ): a) People moving from c4 will see no difference in the way things work b) People who want just the webstack can see 'only' the webstack and not need to use includepkg / exclude's c) the rsync targets from mirrors wont change, so people mirroring the plus repo will get the new packages, along with combined metadata. The base packageset will get released to -qa soon, and most likely to testing in a few days time. Comments ? btw, one thing to note here - we dont want to make it a habit of building X number of repos. But since this is an extra 'product' ( for the lack of a better word to describe it ), we feel that this move would be justified this time. -- Karanbir Singh : http://www.karan.org/ : 2522219@icq

CentOS-5 on i586

Hi Guys, Thanks Manuel for stepping up and offering to help with the i586 work. I know that we had already done some work on this a long time back, Daniel doing most of the heavy lifting at the time. Afaik, Daniel has been busy with RealLife [tm] issues, so I am not sure if he wants to stay as the centos-devel as point man for this project. If not, I will step in and get involved. He did, however, ask a very important question - is there enough traction in the i586 world today to even consider the i586 port worthwhile ? Since most major platforms really are i686 ? I'd still like to see some answers to that question! I do have some old i586 stuff ( things that came out from a LaCie 1U storage box Via C3, 500Mhz ) and a AMD K6-2 550Mhz Compaq Laptop from years gone by. Both of these can be made available if people want something central to test on / test with. Beyond that, we can make some builder threads available and if required a dedicated project on projects.centos.org with svn / trac and issue tracking. -- Karanbir Singh : http://www.karan.org/ : 2522219@icq
