CentOS Forums again

Hello everyone, Having some time to do stuff for CentOS here at LinuxTag I've also being building FreeIPA packages for CentOS. The idea that this will be core part of a central authentication system. Meaning that you will only need 1 account that you can use to login into the website, forum, wiki, bugtracker, systems, ... IMHO the most important system that needs to be attached to the central auth database are the forums. There are a lot of users there (and a lot of content). So I was thinking, why not fix 2 things at the same time. Migrate from the old forum to the new forum that is linked to the central auth system. And then later on couple the other existing apps to it. My feeling is that the most productive way to get forward with the website/forum update is to split the forum from the website. In my experience the forum present in CMS tools aren't made for the amount of traffic we are having. So something dedicated sound like a better option. So I have been looking around for open source forum software that link to ldap without to much effort. I've looked at 3 projects (Phorum, phpBB and SMF). They all 3 are good looking, well featured and maintained. Though, only phpBB has a decent built-in LDAP integration (FreeIPA is built on top of LDAP). So my proposal is to setup a FreeIPA instance, link it with phpBB and try to migrate a part of the current forums and see how all that works. And if it looks good migrate to that. So what do people think, did I miss stuff, other suggestions, ... Hi, We have put on the wiki some workarounds about CentOS image rendering, a proposition to manage translation in a common point (using svn), and a new motive design (for CentOS 5.3 maybe). Also: - the wiki theme has been updated. - a trac theme has been created. (for our project trac site) - a new browser default page is proposed. - customized apache errors design is proposed to install on our web servers. - some minor modifications to the default Apache test page is proposed. - some powered by CentOS images were created. Here is the work, for your consideration (see Miscellaneous section): http://wiki.centos.org/ArtWork Could it have a space on projects.centos.org, and a svn repo for others to collaborate ? what we need to get it there ? Note: We are still working on this, we put it online for you to test and if possible receive some feedback of how make this more useful and to keep focused on what we really need. perl-devel package

I wanted to install the latest Subversion, version 1.5.1, on CentOS 5. I knew it wouldn't be in the CentOS repos (although I checked anyway) so I went looking in Fedora Rawhide and pulled down the SRPM I found there. I attempted to build it and it failed due to a missing "perl-devel" package. Some investigation indicates that somewhere in Fedora's history the headers and development utilities in Perl got broken out into a separate subpackage. It looks like this happened at 5.8.8-15. This is mostly a heads-up to others that might run into this, but I'm wondering what the best way to deal with it is. Should I comment out the BuildReq, or create a virtual package that provides perl-devel and depends on the existing perl package?

CentOS Directory Server (CDS) and more is available for testing

Hello, I'm happy to announce the availability of the CentOS Directory Server (CDS) for testing. The exact details on how to install it can be found on this wiki page : http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/DirectoryServerSetup Besides functional testing of CDS it would also be great if you could watch out for errors in the rebranding (meaning the use of upstream's name and/or logo). Any issues you encounter are to be reported here, but you can also come to the #centos-qa IRC on freenode for support. Also the documentation for CDS can be found on our website at http://www.centos.org/docs/5/. Besides CDS there are other things in the testing repo on dev.centos.org that could use some testing. These include the openjdk 1.6 java version, the vm kernels (tuned for use inside VMWare etc) and a newer version of mysql. We are also looking for feedback on those things so we can move stuff to CentOS Extras or CentOS Plus. Bad checksums in repodata

It seems like there are some bad checksums in the updates repodata for the x86_64 5.2 tree (the onlyone I've checked). Trying to update a freshly installed (and fairly minimal, so I don't know exactly how many packages are affected) system I get: http://$myserver/yum/updates/centos-5/x86_64/RPMS/selinux-policy-targeted-2.4.6-137.1.el5.noarch.rpm: [Errno -1] Package does not match intended download http://$myserver/yum/updates/centos-5/x86_64/RPMS/yum-3.2.8-9.el5.centos.2.1.noarch.rpm: [Errno -1] Package does not match intended download http://$myserver/yum/updates/centos-5/x86_64/RPMS/selinux-policy-2.4.6-137.1.el5.noarch.rpm: [Errno -1] Package does not match intended download And, indeed, checking the sha1sums of those packages against the values in repodata/primary.xml.gz shows that they differ. I verified this against multiple mirrors. Running 'createrepo' fixes the issue. It seems like there's already a hint of this as Issue 2997.
