anaconda dependency calculation?

Hi all, I'm trying to find a tool that calculates all dependencies for a specific package or group of packages for use with CentOS 5 (beta) with the intention of putting together a custom single CD build of CentOS 5. With CentOS 4 i used a python script that used the hdrlist module to find all dependencies which borrowed code from a number of sources. I've looked at yumdownloader and how it checks dependencies (using the --resolve option) but if i pass it the list of packages defined in say the Base and the Core yum groups which generally form an absolute minimal install i end up with about 200 packages. If i do a custom install (using beta 1 disks) and deselect everything i end up with over 300 packages. So i'm guessing anaconda calculates dependencies in a slightly different way, can anyone point me to files/code where i should be looking to find out? CentOS 5.x for Sparc?

Long ago, there was a CentOS build for Sparc under version 4.2 Beta. I checked for the torrents for either the DVD and CD binary or source isos, but no one is seeding that anymore as well. The old Sparc 4.2 beta repo was found here: http://beta.centos.org/centos/4.2beta/isos/sparc/ ... but that doesn't have enough information to even attempt a netinstall or a tftp/rarpd boot/install. Then just recently, I saw this CentOS announcement/post: "We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of CentOS-5.2 for the i386 and x86_64 Architectures. [...] Further Arch support for PowerPC, IA64 and Sparc are planned and will be released soon. These arch's will follow the existing pattern of release to Beta first, and then to Final." still trying to build upstream srpms

i have been looking around and i can't see a way to figure out what --define options might be used for rpmbuild by rh. i want to build the rhwas 5 non-java srpms but there is lots of ifdef magic in the spec that could be important to building. so in general, how do we know how the upstream builds things? are there logs somewhere on ftp.redhat.com to look at? or do we have moles that tell us? i'm not even thinking about mock type stuff right now, just trying to figure out the actual rpmbuild command line to use. any clues out there? i've heard that 4.7 is brewing right now, so i understand that the people in the know may be off waving wands over the build gnomes and not paying much attention here...

What are you thinking of here Karanbir? Using the current C5 perl package (so 5.8.8) but with the upstream fixes applied? Or backporting the FC8 package? Question about CentOS 4.0beta PowerPC boot CD

Hi all! Does anyone remember the CentOS 4.0 beta boot CD for PowerPC? This is the only one type of boot CD that go to boot a Kernel on qemu (-system-ppc) with the Open(Hack'ware)Bios. (The Kernel itself hangs up then) Neither the Yellow Dog 6 DVD, nor Fedora 6 - 9 PPC edition, nor Ubuntu / Debian boots on Qemu ppc. So I wanted to adapt the running yaboot loader and configuration to boot the YDL 6 Kernel and initrd to install the stuff to make a mock build server for the el5 ppc Target. But when I (re-)create the .iso with mkisofs, Qemu does not recognize the CD-Image as a boot CD. My Question: Does you (the creator of the 8.5 MB boot.iso) know, how you created the .iso Image? Which options did you have used? I did not have found any documentation how to create those CDs of that type (with a special Macintosh boot partition) that you have produced. Would you like to help me saying how to create qemu-system-ppc compatible boot discs ... ? hi Guys, bugzilla.redhat.com now has direct support for cross referencing a CentOS Bug/Issue number. So when filing issues upstream that were reported on bugs.centos.org, check: Add External Bug: CentOS I'll try and get a Custom field added into mantis that would do something simiar for us as well. build-from-scratch: SRPM Build order now working

Hi folks, Calculating the build order out of a set of source RPMs is now possible (even with BuildRequires from sources which are not included). The little trick rpm -E "`cat foo.spec`" did it. Special thanks to Jeff J.! But I have to shorten the output to the essentials because 'rpm' is crashing when the output of the spec file is too long. The resulting sub directory (i.e. i386) must be published on a http server just-in-time to make it accessible for the mock build server. build-from-scratch checks the setting of the build server, then it calculates the build-order and does some sanity checks on the SRPMs. After that it begins to compile all SRPMs each in a clean build root in the right order. Build errors and dependency lacks are reported on the __BAD subdirectory within the output directory. This is also a great tool for writing high-quality .spec-files. Build-from-scratch can be downloaded from: http://c.dyndns.org/brian/pub/centos/5/tools/ (it needs createrepo and httpd installed.) My hint: Please read it with care before executing. VDR (the digital video disk recorder) is now completely mock-buildable on CentOS-5 and may be added to a contrib-testing-like repository (it is located at http://c.dyndns.org/brian/pub/centos/5/vdr) RPMforge does only accept .spec files where the original URLs to the source tarballs have partially been vanished or are changing in the future (which is not a good idea, I think). So I would have to get storage space there. I hope the build order calculation function helps accelerating the build process for the people who build CentOS and packages for it. i am going to build up the non-java rhwas stuff for centos 5. one thing i've never known is how to figure out what --define or other switches that should be used for the rpmbuild to match what rh does. is there a way to query a rh binary rpm to find out?

Hi, does anybody know a tool/script which pre-processes/parse and dumps a .spec file with preloaded RPM macros? I'm working on a script which will build a set of source RPMs (or even a whole distribution) on a mock build server. The aim of it is to get well defined source RPMs with exact requirements (BuildReqs and Requres by running installation tests in mock in conjunction with ldd on multilib systems). The goal of this is to get all Packages mock-buildable and "certified". I will have to shorten the build duration by calculating the package order with correlation algorythms on the package names. But there are cases where correlation does not work - especially when SRPMs creates packages named different (e.g. mplayer(src) creates mencoder(bin)) and when scanning for "%files" or "%files -n" in the .spec returns unresolved macros. (Example: %files -n vdr-%{pname}-server) When my build-from-scratch script is finished I will release it to the CentOS project, because it will be very important for automation and shorten the release time when (re)building the Distro. Current features: - Building binary packages from SRPMS (in a repository) on a mock server via ssh - Creating root-logs, build-logs and missingdeps-logs - Bypassing bad packages (missdeps, build-failures) on next turns - Semi-"brute-force"-build: re-running as so long as no more packages are built. Planned features: - Certification tests (post-install tests, respin/updates integration tests) - Handling cross-build issues in RPM - Exact build order and circular dependencies detection. I think the solution for my problem can be found in the internals of the rpmbuild utility - if someone has a hint or solution of a .spec parser, he/she is welcome (Google did not satisfy me right now). Hi, I'm using CentOS 5.2. I wrote a program that uses rtkaio (so my Makefile contains -lrtkaio). The program runs successfully. The problem began when I wanted to create a rpm for my program. CentOS Forums again

Hello everyone, Having some time to do stuff for CentOS here at LinuxTag I've also being building FreeIPA packages for CentOS. The idea that this will be core part of a central authentication system. Meaning that you will only need 1 account that you can use to login into the website, forum, wiki, bugtracker, systems, ... IMHO the most important system that needs to be attached to the central auth database are the forums. There are a lot of users there (and a lot of content). So I was thinking, why not fix 2 things at the same time. Migrate from the old forum to the new forum that is linked to the central auth system. And then later on couple the other existing apps to it. My feeling is that the most productive way to get forward with the website/forum update is to split the forum from the website. In my experience the forum present in CMS tools aren't made for the amount of traffic we are having. So something dedicated sound like a better option. So I have been looking around for open source forum software that link to ldap without to much effort. I've looked at 3 projects (Phorum, phpBB and SMF). They all 3 are good looking, well featured and maintained. Though, only phpBB has a decent built-in LDAP integration (FreeIPA is built on top of LDAP). So my proposal is to setup a FreeIPA instance, link it with phpBB and try to migrate a part of the current forums and see how all that works. And if it looks good migrate to that. So what do people think, did I miss stuff, other suggestions, ... Hi, We have put on the wiki some workarounds about CentOS image rendering, a proposition to manage translation in a common point (using svn), and a new motive design (for CentOS 5.3 maybe). Also: - the wiki theme has been updated. - a trac theme has been created. (for our project trac site) - a new browser default page is proposed. - customized apache errors design is proposed to install on our web servers. - some minor modifications to the default Apache test page is proposed. - some powered by CentOS images were created. I wanted to install the latest Subversion, version 1.5.1, on CentOS 5. I knew it wouldn't be in the CentOS repos (although I checked anyway) so I went looking in Fedora Rawhide and pulled down the SRPM I found there. I attempted to build it and it failed due to a missing "perl-devel" package. Some investigation indicates that somewhere in Fedora's history the headers and development utilities in Perl got broken out into a separate subpackage. It looks like this happened at 5.8.8-15. This is mostly a heads-up to others that might run into this, but I'm wondering what the best way to deal with it is. Should I comment out the BuildReq, or create a virtual package that provides perl-devel and depends on the existing perl package?

Also the documentation for CDS can be found on our website at http://www.centos.org/docs/5/. Besides CDS there are other things in the testing repo on dev.centos.org that could use some testing. These include the openjdk 1.6 java version, the vm kernels (tuned for use inside VMWare etc) and a newer version of mysql.
