Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. If anyone would like to help, please feel free to jump right in. CentOS 5.3 ETA?

Hi, just a question on whether there is a known ETA for it. The reason I'm asking is that I accidentially removed some 5.2. kernel support from ATrpms (not for the 5.2 plus kernels, just the vendor ones) and if 5.3 would take longer I would rebuild the erased bits. drbd modules for recent centos 4.x kernel updates

Greetings. It seems the drbd modules are still not present for recent update kernels for CentOS 4.x. ;( See: http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=3291 Any idea when they might be available? Or is work being done to make them non kernel specific as has been done in CentOS 5.x? Thanks for any info... kevin

TOMOYO enabled kernels for CentOS

I'm ready to support kernel-2.6.18-128.el5 as soon as CentOS 5.3 gets released. (1) TOMOYO can't be built as a kernel module, and will break kabi compatibility checking. Is it possible to add "a rebuilt kernel with added drivers and filesystem support" which breaks kabi compatibility checking into CentOS repository? (2) I'm everytime manually patching .spec file and rebuilding RPM package. This causes some delays between the CentOS's kernel release and TOMOYO enabled kernel release. To be able to release updates as soon as possible, I will be happy if an automated build environment is available. Can I release updates sooner than now? (3) Whose GPG key is used for signing "modules in TOMOYO enabled kernel RPM package" and "TOMOYO enabled kernel RPM packages"? Regards.

As per the http://wiki.centos.org/WebsiteVer2/forums in relation to Drupal, I wrote a patch that allows support of MySQL split read/write capabilities for master/slave MySQL database environments under Drupal 5.x environments, which -- from proof of concept testing -- has resulted in a 30% performance boost. -- Michael

Security update missing - kernel-2.6.18-128.el5

Please, do not delay this "Important" multiple security update. See https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2009-0225.html for more info. This update is "5.3" kernel but has been released as security update too. RHN pushed this kernel one day ahead of rest of 5.3 packages (on my servers). RH maintains API and ABI (!) compatibility so there is no problem to use this kernel AFAIK. So please, do not delay it anymore, this contains multiple security vulnerabilities fixed since 2009-01-20. hi, after a long time it seems the current packages which needed for kvm on centos-5 host seems to working (ie. worth to change). my repo: http://www.lfarkas.org/linux/packages/centos/5/SRPMS/ contains the current set of rpms what we use (about a week): ----------------------------- libvirt-0.6.0-1 python-virtinst-0.400.1-1 virt-manager-0.6.1-1 virt-top-1.0.1-7.el5 virt-viewer-0.0.3-3 qemu-img-0.9.1-12 kvm-83-1 kmod-kvm-83-1 etherboot-5.4.4-8 ----------------------------- you can download x86_64 binary rpms too. these are mostly the fedora src.rpms rebuild on el5 with small modifications. imho it'd be useful to add centos's extras repo too, since these are a huge step even for the current rhel-5.3's rpms and the current kvm-36 which is in extras. these are usable on centos-5.2, so can be added to it's extras repo, but there will be some patches in the coming centos-5.3's kernel-2.6.18-128.el5 (eg. virtio) which has some more benefit too. any comments? how are willing to add it to centos? yours. -- Levente "Si vis pacem para bellum!"

CentOS 5.x for Sparc?

In the past (http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-devel/2008-August/003082.html) , I had tried to boot my SunFire V120 server with the CentOS-5 Sparc tftp64.img, but discovered that the tftp64.img does not have the SunGem driver available in it. I had posted to the CentOS Bugzilla site about the sungem driver (http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=3061) source code that I found, but there is a note from one of the developers about building a device driver. The bug report is still in a 'new' status. My questions are - How can building a device driver be done and how do I use it prior to when I am attempting to start the CentOS installation via TFTP only? The Sparc server doesn't have a floppy or CD-Rom drive attached, thus TFTP is the only way to remotely boot this server environment. -- Michael
