Windows Server 2008 guest on KVM

Windows Server 2008 does not run on the KVM version (36) in the CentOS repository. W2008 is the current version of Windows Server and not a Beta any more, so increasing numbers of people will be attempting to install CentOS+KVM+W2008, and running into difficulties. KVM version 72 is required for W2008 according to this: http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/Guest_Support_Status What needs to happen to get KVM-72 or later into a repository? There is a very good KVM HowTo... http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/KVM ...but it does not explain how to install a version that will run W2008. I have documented a solution in this forum post... http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=19034&forum=38 ...but it relies on unofficial RPMs from www.lfarkas.org. Is it OK to put that advice in a HowTo? It took me days of research, recompiling kernels and packages etc to get CentOS+KVM+W2008 working. I'm not complaining, it was fun, but I'm concerned that other people are just giving up and switching to Xen or Debian e.g. http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?p=5606587#post5606587 ...and it would not take much to keep them on-board. Few missing sources still

It appears that most of the sources have appeared. There are however a few sources still missing. there's something happened between kernel 2.6.28-128.1.1 and 2.6.18-128.1.6 compilation

hi, it seems there should happened something with centos build system between kernel 2.6.28-128.1.1 and 2.6.18-128.1.6 compilation. because although the two spec files only differs with a few dozen of patches the resulted src.rpm are different ie: ----------------------------------------- # rpm -qp --requires kernel-2.6.18-128.1.1.el5.src.rpm | grep unifdef unifdef # rpm -qp --requires kernel-2.6.18-128.1.6.el5.src.rpm | grep unifdef # ----------------------------------------- and this small differences means the latest kernel can't be compiled in mock. what's more the same is not true for rhel's kernel ie. in case of rhel's 2.6.18-128.1.6 it gives unifdef. so it's a centos bug and with this bug centos don't follow upstream behavior. just my 2c. -- Levente "Si vis pacem para bellum!"

ETA of bind update for CentOS 4?

Any information on when this updated bind package (bind-9.2.4-30.el4_7.2) would be available for CentOS 4? https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2009-0285.html It was released upstream in February. Thanks, Andrew

yum-cron

hi, in 5.2 there is a yum-cron in the os dir, but there is a yum-cron only in extras/x86_64 too (not in i386). at the same time in 5.3 there is no yum-cron in the os dir, but there is yum-cron only in extras/x86_64 too (not in i386). at the same time there is a yum-cron in epel-5 too. so imho it'd be useful to clean up this situation. -- Levente "Si vis pacem para bellum!"

debuginfo packages on the mirrors

Just to inform that some *debuginfo* packages have landed on some mirrors. For example the latest kernel 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5 (and all his variants) has the corresponding debuginfo package. no drbd after update to 5.3

I have a dual xen/drbd cluster now broken after the 5.3 update Saturday. FATAL: Could not open '/lib/modules/2.6.18-128.1.6.el5xen/weak-updates/drbd82/drbd.ko': No such file or directory I'll research further when I get to the office. Thanks, jerry

i386/noarch RPMS differences between x86_64 and i386 repos?

I have my own local copies of the CentOS 5.3 x86_64 and i386 repos - and to save space, I ran 'hardlink' over the RPMS directories - however it found that a number of the i386 and noarch RPMS in the x86_64 tree were 'different' from the matching RPMS in the i386 tree. Out of the 1186 i386/noarch RPMS on the 5.3 x86_64 iso image, 222 are different from the matching i386/noarch RPMS from the i386 iso image The difference appears to be the 'Signature' date - the rest of the info from 'rpm -qi' appears identical. Most of these 'different' RPMS are ones that have been updated in 5.3 Is there a reason why these RPMS have a different signature date? Not a major issue ... Thanks James Pearson
