anaconda dependency calculation?

Hi all, I'm trying to find a tool that calculates all dependencies for a specific package or group of packages for use with CentOS 5 (beta) with the intention of putting together a custom single CD build of CentOS 5. With CentOS 4 i used a python script that used the hdrlist module to find all dependencies which borrowed code from a number of sources. I've looked at yumdownloader and how it checks dependencies (using the --resolve option) but if i pass it the list of packages defined in say the Base and the Core yum groups which generally form an absolute minimal install i end up with about 200 packages. If i do a custom install (using beta 1 disks) and deselect everything i end up with over 300 packages. So i'm guessing anaconda calculates dependencies in a slightly different way, can anyone point me to files/code where i should be looking to find out? Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. If anyone would like to help, please feel free to jump right in. php-mcrypt 5.2.6 test repo

Hello all, I ve been using php 5.2.6 from the testing repo for a month now and everything works fine. The only thing is I cant find php-mcrypt for 5.2.6 from the testing repo. phpmyadmin is saying that is missing but php-mcrypt from the base repo is installed. Thanks, Adam

Hi, The first issue of the newsletter is being finalized to be released on Tuesday. For this we wanted to personalize the content a bit (and also credit contributions) by adding mugshots when we report about people and/or get contributed content. To facilitate this, we need a standard to refer to these mugshots and for this I'd like to propose the following convention for everyone who wants his mugshot to be used: DagWieers/DagWieers96.png This mugshot then would be used also from the Team's page: http://wiki.centos.org/Team as well as on your personal homepage, eg. http://wiki.centos.org/DagWieers It would be great if people can already provide this mugshot so that I don't have to harass people when I need/want them ;-) If you don't want a mugshot, please add a blank/black image with the same name or provide an alternative, that helps to understand your wish. Hi Guys, Actually CentOS uses many free software applications to handle its needs. Those applications have their own design and when you see them as a whole they don't visually fit among them. Additionally, when you are in one application, for example the wiki, there isn't always a visible link referring other sections, like forums, bugs, docs, downloads, projects ... Hi all, The CentOS Newsletter is a new initiative taken to promote CentOS, but also to improve the communication inside of the community itself. http://wiki.centos.org/Newsletter Currently we envision a Newsletter that highlights some of the things that are going on inside of the different community's channels. But we probably could do much more, all of this depends on contributions and ideas of those people that are already involved. So what I am looking for are people that - think about what subject, thread or article could be useful for the Newsletter (as much as possible) - write new content that can be featured in the Newsletter - are willing to (co)maintain a section in the Newsletter on a bi-weekly basis We haven't decided what sections will go into the Newsletter yet, but here is a list of the things that are possible. If you have other ideas, please share them with the centos-promo mailinglist (or send them to me personally). We are looking for a few recurring sections for the Newsletter: * Foreword * Featured Article(s) * Wonderful Wiki Whatever (new documentation in the wiki) * Community Threads (interesting threads on mailinglist, forums and blogs) * CentOS Fixes (an overview of the recent errata) * Development Discussions (what happens on centos-devel) * CentOS in the News (who's covering CentOS) * ... Of course, if we don't have any content for a section at some point, we will leave that section out. So who is interested to help out with the first and second issue ? I am looking for people in the different communities (mailinglist, forums and blogs) that keep up with things and offer items to be featured. Hello, I found that there were some activities for s390 SIG several months ago, but there were not many people interested in s390 at the time, I think. Karanbir is working on s390x for centos 5.0 now, isn't he? And there might be some people who interested in building s390x port for centos 5.3, so we should talk about this SIG again. The meeting will be held on IRC(#centos-devel) at 20:00 UTC 18th May 2009. (05:00 KST-9 19th May 2009) Anyone interested should join in. Agenda which I thought is like below: 1. where are we? 2. what should we do? - check the build system(real iron) - make build system environment - fix errors - etc. ? - role and responsibility 3. schedule 4. some other topic? kmod update with yum

hi, i need some help:-( i now spend many hours to find the reason why yum always install kmod rpms on centos and never update. currently there is not any weak-updates kmod rpm in centos which has more version-release, but as you try to update any kmod the same problem will arise. in case of fedora where kmod's are hardwired to a given kernel it's not a problem (but those are never weak-update kmods), but in case of centos where eg in 5.3 all kernel a kabi compatible then we can use none kernel version specific kmods. what's more in case of weak-updates kmod when the same package has more version installed cause many problems. suppose i've got a kmod installed eg: # rpm -q kmod-fuse kmod-fuse-2.7.4-20.el5 now i build a new one and try to update with yum update. it's always install it and i can't force yum to update it. anybody can tell me the reason? of course rpm -U update it. imho it's the same reason as the recent dbrd kmod thread where wasn't any solution. anyway anybody know what is the yum-kmod and what is it good for? and try both with/without yum-kmod but the same happened:-( -- Levente "Si vis pacem para bellum!"

CDS or CentOS Directory Server - Final testing

Hi, The what should be final packages of CDS are available in the testing repo (http://dev.centos.org/centos/5/testing/) If people could give these a final test to see if they are ok ? They are up to date to what is currently available for RHDS (version 8.1). If nothing is found these will move to the producion repos (probably Extras) in a couple of days. Ralph, I see now what you are saying. I went to the Dasha project page. I tried my wiki login and it failed so should I sign up for an account there as well? This is all getting quite monotonous... I now have a login for the CentOS forums, one for the wiki, one for each mail list (devel and docs), and now I am to register again for the Dasha project? Is there no way to unify this to a single login across the whole site? While the logins are the same for the forums and the lists, the wiki had to be different (wiki wants camel case). Not to mention if I am working one the wiki or the forum I have to login seperately. Then add to that if I want to login now to the dasha... do I have to login yet again? I am sorry I do not wish to complain really... I just wish to offer that this seems like a large amount of work to ask a contributor. If it cannot be helped for now, that is just the way it is. I just though it might be worth asking about.

I just have some questions about some of the things found in the Fedora Unity .jigdo that don't seem to be documented in the jigdo-file man page. For example they have a [Mirrorlists] section and I'm not sure what that is about because they also have a lengthy [Servers] section. In the two .jigdo files I mention about the URLs for [Server] are static but it would be nice to have a URL that would dynamically rotate between various mirror sites to spread the download across more of the CentOS mirrors... rather than the handful of mirror URLs I put in there... which I'm thinking is what the [Mirrorlists] thing is all about?!? So far as not getting the jigdo-file command line just perfect... his recipe did work once I discovered the i386 reference that should have been $arch... and altered the rsync --exclude for my different source directory... but to construct my more complex, multiple [Image] .jigdo files I had to cheat and use a text editor. Updates push / announcements automation

As a part of the restructuring of the buildsystems and the updates processing process, we are at a time where there is the option of also redoing the way announcements are done. I've already factored in RSS feeds per repo, but is there anything else that could / should / would make sense in the actual emails that get sent out ? I know changelog has been something that people have mentioned in the past, is that still something that might be good-to-have / must-have in the announcement emails ? Also, for CentOS-4, only security updates are normally announced. What do people feel about changing that so that all updates are announced, including SA / BA / EA and CentOS specific bugfix's ? Finally, and this is the big question that *will* impact a lot of people and specially those with automation - what do people think about combined update announcements for all Arch's in a single email like what happens upstream ? C2.1/C3/C4 will be hard to get into this process since the arch specific builders dont stay in sync, but for C5, with the ia64/ppc and s390 now pretty much online with the i386 and x86_64 its something that we *could* potentially target. -- Karanbir Singh : http://www.karan.org/ : 2522219@icq

LiveCD development

Hi, I am amazed by the usefulness of the CentOS LiveCD and I would like to discuss the scope of the project. Some of the recommendations I made go against the original idea of LiveCD project. But my (outside) stance on the LiveCD is that it should give the best achievable experience possible for people when trying CentOS. To me that includes adding drivers that are available in other repositories (which are missing from upstream, including wireless firmware, etc...) I do agree that as soon as we leave the deliver-what-upstream-has path, we may open a can of worms (do we also want to fix known bugs ? replace upstream software ? legality ?), so we have to decide what is desirable, what is possible and where the project's effort ends. What are the various goals of the LiveCD project ? - A way for people to see what hardware is supported by CentOS - with drivers included by upstream only - with drivers that can be added with little effort (to eg. accomodate eeepc and other purposes) - including a tool to send a hardware status report to a central database - A tool for recovering a broken system - include only a few basic tools for debugging - A tool for installing CentOS on a system - A workable environment for people to use day by day - do we want persistent storage - does it need to be installable from Windows - does it include wireless firmware - Provide the tools for people to make their own spins - all sorts of appliances, eg. DVR, rescue, ... I am sure we can list more applicable use-cases for this project. And in the end we have to agree which fit the LiveCD project (eg. whether we make an official CentOS LiveCD and a seperate CentOS-plus LiveCD) and what the main priorities are. Also, to stimulate the LiveCD development there should be no reason why we couldn't release a LiveCD 5.3.1 or LiveCD 5.3.2 if there are compelling reasons to make a new respin (and update the mirrors). In the end I see a bright future for the LiveCD as the project where driver-development (dasha, elrepo), CentOS-based appliances, hardware testing, and much more come together. To me it is one of those unique opportunities to drive different other projects with a very positive attitude as it brings (even more) meaning to CentOS to a lot of (new) people. Where do we want to go with this and what is realistically achievable ?
