forums + portal for {lang}.centos.org sites

Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. If anyone would like to help, please feel free to jump right in. Interested in IA64 build.

I noticed on the SIG that people interested in other ports of interest. I'd like to express interest in the IA64 port. What is the best way to get started? I have two SGI Itanium 2 based machines. One 64 processor x 64GB SGI Altix and a 32 processor x 32GB RAM SGI Prism. They are currently running CentOS 4.8 and I would love to be able to run CentOS 5.5 on them to get them into compliance with the rest of the cluster. -- James A. Artwork for C6

Hi, with the EL6beta2 Refresh, I am going to guess that the rhel6 release isnt far - and one of the things that takes the longest to get sorted out in 'CentOS Lands' is the artwork components. It would be fantastic if we can get some of the centos-artwork packages into the testing repo's by the 15th Aug. So what all do we need in order to get there ? The components we need to start with are the gnome theme, *-artwork packages and *-logos packages. Can we also get a show of hands, on who all are working on these components ? Thanks - KB

Updated nx/freenx packages

CentOS devs (perhaps Tru?), I have an updated version of nx/freenx ready. The srpms are: http://centos.toracat.org/misc/nx-freenx/5/SRPMS/freenx-0.7.3-6.el5.centos.… http://centos.toracat.org/misc/nx-freenx/5/SRPMS/nx-3.4.0-6.el5.centos.ay.s… Two tarballs (nxagent and nx-X11) in nx have been update to the current version (as of Sept 2010). One main change done in this update is addition of support for RHEL6(beta). For example, rpmbuild -bb --target x86_64 --define 'dist .el6.centos' --define "centos_ver 6" freenx.spec will build the x86_64 version of freenx for RHEL/CentOS-6. Anyone wishing to give them a try can find the binaries at: http://centos.toracat.org/misc/nx-freenx/6/i386/ http://centos.toracat.org/misc/nx-freenx/6/x86_64/ I have tested them against RHEL 6 beta2 and they seem to work fine. Forums migration to phpbb

Starting a new thread... So there are a few things that need to be done with the forums : - Workable data migration path from the existing forums setup to phpbb - setup a single authentication module with its own account creation / deletion / admin interface - Migrating the wiki, bugs and www site to use the same auth mechanism. Things already done : + phpbb install and tested migration ( I am guessing this based on Marcus's last email ) Looking at the list of things that need to be done, I dont need to be or want to be involved with any of them, but am happy to project-manage if that is something which is needed. So, who's offering to do what ? Step-1 might be to check and verify that wiki/bugs/www can be migrated to using the ldap auth setup proposed for phpbb. - KB

Building or maintaining CentOS EUS releases

Hi all, Would it be possible to release CentOS EUS with their respective patches like upstream vendor does?? For example two releases or one release back: 5.4 and 5.3 or 5.4 only. Why? Because for example for important bugs detected on upstream 5.5 version like this: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=583218. This bug doesn't exists under 5.4 release, and IMHO, it is a very important bug (it is marked as urgent on upstream). Seemed too long time to contact you here becase of my busy work in Tanzania.I think it will be more helpful for the team to accept me after I gained two years experience of contributing work for other opensource software such as fedora, mybb and simplemahines. But I never forget CentOS, especially for regional site such as cn.centos.org. PHP, OpenSSL and missing functions?

Hello, new to this list and am not sure if this is the right one to post this question to but here it is... System specifications Linux hostname 2.6.18-194.11.1.el5 #1 SMP Tue Aug 10 19:09:06 EDT 2010 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux CentOS-5.5 PHP 5.2.13 OpenSSL-0.9.8e According to the manual for PHP a function of PHP with SSL configured is http://php.net/manual/en/function.openssl-get-cipher-methods.php which is returning an error. PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function openssl_get_cipher_methods() According to phpinfo() it is installed and working properly. ... './configure' ... '--with-openssl' ... ... Loaded Modules ... mod_ssl ... ... openssl OpenSSL support enabled OpenSSL Version OpenSSL 0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 01 Jul 2008 Should I report this as a bug?
