Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. If anyone would like to help, please feel free to jump right in. Interested in IA64 build.

I noticed on the SIG that people interested in other ports of interest. I'd like to express interest in the IA64 port. What is the best way to get started? I have two SGI Itanium 2 based machines. One 64 processor x 64GB SGI Altix and a 32 processor x 32GB RAM SGI Prism. They are currently running CentOS 4.8 and I would love to be able to run CentOS 5.5 on them to get them into compliance with the rest of the cluster. -- James A. Hello, hope that this could be correct target to post, as I don't find any link directly on the web site. I notice that going to http://qaweb.dev.centos.org/qa/dashboard some posts don't get updated with the correct timestamp as days pass through. For example when you click on the article First CentOS 6.2 Tree and ISOs make it to QA you can see that the comment from Jeff " As of last night we have an installable x86_64 tree for testing. The i386 tree has some issues with the installer that need to be fixed. " keeps getting marked as "4:42pm Today" HIH giving better information, Gianluca

hi Guys, the last time we had some TShirts sponsored, I asked for who wanted it - and had to parse emails coming in, match sizes, check postage issues and email followups to people. It wasent easy, and took a fair bit of time. And in the end, I had to limit emails down to only those people who actually got Tshirts sent to them. For the 70 odd Tshirts I had, there were 500+ requests. We are going to be getting some more TShirts in the next few days - and this time they are split between two designs, and multiple colours and different sizes (ofcourse). It would be great if there was some s/w that could be installed on one of our machines that would allow us to add the tshirt quantities and sizes and colours in, and then let people essentially check-out. The shirts are sponsored, the postage + packaging isnt. So people would still need to come up with a bit of money ( it should be quite nominal ). I'm also talking to someone locally about sponsoring beer and coffee mugs and a few other things ( its essentially what they do - make glassware for large brands ). So this might be an ongoing thing. AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01) elrepo no driver (Maybe OT)

Hi All, This wireless device came with this hp pavilion g4 laptop and noticed that elrepo has no driver for this. I know enough how to compile and install modules but not how to build a kmod package. I got the drivers from here: http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/ath9k and used this snapshot compat-wireless-2012-01-19.tar.bz2 to build and load the module which works fine on this laptop. I was wondering if the folks at elrepo would consider building a kmod package for this? Phil

pulp as a private mirror resource

hi guys, I've been looking at using pulp ( pulpproject.org ) as a means to promote rpms into the evolving repos ( updates/ extras/ plus/ etc ) as opposed to static repos ( os/ ). So that people running large infra do not need to rely on the msync targets, leaving those available for public mirror use. This is very much a spike test to see if pulp is usable for such a role. The thinking is that there is a .centos.org hosted pulp master ( or a few ) and Content nodes in various geo distributed places, with every one wanting to run a private mirror just bringing up a content node, associating it with the repo's they care about and letting that content instance sync on schedule. removing the need to repo-manage completely. The pulp project guys have been very very receptive of constructive criticism and have even offered to take up some of the recommendations I had, as feature requests. So even if we do find there are massive holes that are not filled in a way by pulp today, there might be scope for them to find workarounds or even see if they can find suitable fix's I have asked on IRC and the main list for people who might be willing to help trial and evaluate this process, but havent been able to get much support. centOS 6.0 custom kernel load fails

HI, I'm trying to build centOS6.0 custom kernel using the steps given at URL http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel Kernel: 2.6.32-71.el6.x86_64. I'm following centOS5.0 steps for building custom kernel (This is the latest one to refer).
