forums + portal for {lang}.centos.org sites

Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. If anyone would like to help, please feel free to jump right in. CentOS 7.2 cloud images for ppc64le

[Proposal] Adding an alternative architecture to your SIG.

Hi Folks, We are able to build packages for new arches we need to propose a workflow to support a new architecture in a SIG project. Two use cases : A/ It's an official architecture. -> Sources *must* build for all enable architecture. SIGs are responsible to fix issues for all arches. -> We provide a script that will rebuild existing arch specific packages (scratch build + merge scratch build) if needed. (Note: In case only newer version of your project supports this arch, this step may be skipped.) => "On Monday SIG board decided to enable aarch64, and then all new tasks must build for aarch64." B/ It's a proposed architecture. -> Some person in a SIG would like to work on add an architecture and do the porting work but SIG would not support it as a first citizen until it gets traction. -> Source will be build on a separate tag (a different disttag will be used) -> We provide a script that rebuild srpm (NV must remain the same as original SIG package) and merge the build when architecture is promoted as an "official architecture". => "Work on this architecture support and when ready send a proposal to promote your working port to the SIG board" I think that supporting the two use cases will benefit the community, and allow less common architectures to be supported faster. At koji level, these modifications can be done per SIG *project*. Let us know what you think/expect and your feedback. -- Thomas Oulevey

Source code for Qt 4 on CentOS 6?

Where can I find the source for Qt 4 on CentOS 6? I assumed that it would be in the git repo, but I don't see anything meaningful there: https://git.centos.org/summary/?r=rpms/qt.git Thanks, Dave

Reminder: please test Xfce 4.12 packages on EL-7

I had written earlier [0] about the availability of Xfce 4.12 packages in EPEL testing repositories. This is a reminder for the same. Link to update - https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-EPEL-2016-262a3f39e1 Some notes from [0] are worth repeating here - - libxfce4ui obsoletes libxfcegui4 (plugins using libxfcegui4 were never built for EL-7) - xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin obsoletes xfce4-mixer and xfce4-volumed (xfce4-volumed is not even in the repos) - xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin uses pavucontrol as sound mixer which is unavailable in EL-7 at the moment. Additionally, if you have any xfce plugin installed that is not from EPEL repo, it is likely that the plugin will conflict with newer libraries provided by the update. Interest in a SIG for logging and monitoring?

Hello, I wonder, if there is more interest here for starting a logging and monitoring SIG. It should provide (as the name says) for logging and monitoring. With people running huge installations, it makes sense to have more centralized logging, but there's currently not that much in CentOS repositories. I could imagine to have both tools and also installation and configuration bits and pieces to be maintained by the SIG. Before I'd be putting out more details, about what I could imagine or what I would like to see, I would like to see some more interested folks raising their hands. Best, Matthias
