forums + portal for {lang}.centos.org sites

Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. If anyone would like to help, please feel free to jump right in. hi Alpha2: registry.centos.org/kbsingh/centos-atomic:7-alpha2 The CentOS Atomic Container is a minimal ( 30MB on disk ) image that can be used to host static content, and small footprint content that does not need the entire CentOS Linux Base image. This is also not meant to replace CentOS Linux Base image as the default, we want to make it available as an additional container base for apps that find it useful. The main highlight is that it does not contain yum, but has microdnf. I am looking for feedback, and some wider testing as well as recommendations on howto further reduce size, before we move to release. [Dojo] Call for presentations, CERN Dojo

Release notes of centos genericcloud image?

Hi list, I found centos genericcloud image for openstack at https://docs.openstack.org/image-guide/obtain-images.html#centos but I didn't found any release note for these images, so I didn't known what's difference between genericcloud image and the official centos release, e.g. centos 6.8, 7.2 release and etc. Is there any wiki/doc/releasenote? -- Thanks, Chengwei

[infra] DevCloud migration (users, please read)

Hi, Some of you actually use our DevCloud (https://wiki.centos.org/DevCloud) as a playground/sandbox environment when willing to test some deployments/scratch operations. We want you to notice that we'll completely refresh that environment next week, so DevCloud itself will be unavailable during the reinstall phase, but also all VMs currently running in that environment will also be destroyed (it's a "cloud" and for dev/testing so everything could be considered ephemeral ) Details of the migration: - setting up two new dedicated storage boxes (each using SSD disks for faster storage backend for the provisioned VMs) - reinstalling the hypervisors from CentOS 6 to CentOS 7 - migrating to RDO/OpenStack (Ocata release) - DevCloud users rights in OpenStack will be synced from ACO (https://accounts.centos.org) Due to the fact that we also have to remove some physical components from some nodes to other nodes, we'll have to shutdown the whole environment. The maintenance window is scheduled for """"Tuesday August 1st, 2:00 pm UTC time"""". You can convert to local time with $(date -d '2017-08-01 14:00 UTC') We'll do our best to keep the maintenance window as short as possible, but we also have a lot of things to reconfigure behind the scene (including new network switches). We'll announce when the new DevCloud environment will be available and ready to be used. All users are so encouraged to save what they want/need before that date, as everything will disappear. Adding s390x as an alternative architecture

With the current efforts under way with aarch64 and ppc64le, I would like to suggest that s390x also be added as an alternative architecture. Obviously hardware would be the biggest obstacle, but I do not see any reason why we couldn't get started with just emulated hardware. -- Jason DeTiberus

CentOS PaaS openshift origin rpm: missing origin-master

Hello folks, I am trying to build an openshift cluster on centos7 with rpms. Now, since this afternoon, at least, I can not find the origin-master rpm (containing the systectl service configuration, et.al). I am sure the origin-master rpm was to be found yesterday; can anyone tell me what happened? Regards, Stefan. Bug #12169 not yet fixed

Hello Fabian and Thomas, I think bug #12169 might have been closed prematurely (again). The reported issue is that %addon sections are ignored by CBS, not that we need to upgrade our infra to CentOS Linux 7 (that was just what we initially thought to be enough to avoid the problem). The problem was that pykickstart had no support for %addon sections, and it removed any unknown section from generated file. I reported this upstream a while ago, and Chris Lumens added a workaround 12 days ago.
