Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. If anyone would like to help, please feel free to jump right in. CentOS 8 Artwork needed

To all the artists and designers here, we need your help. With RHEL 8 beta released, we need to start producing artwork for CentOS 8. It's time for the CentOS Artwork SIG, and anyone else that's interested in contributing to this effort, to start working on everything that will be needed for the new release. What we know we need is anaconda artwork, and new desktop backgrounds to replace the current '7' themed stuff. As we dig, we may find more things that need to be updated to the new 8 theme. Additionally, we will need to update some of the assets listed here: https://wiki.centos.org/ArtWork/Identity ... and produce new assets for 8 to be listed here: https://wiki.centos.org/ArtWork/Brand/Logo And, finally, we need someone to step up to lead this effort. Using mirrorlist in centos-release-* packages

Hi, as mentioned in https://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-devel/2018-September/016949.html mirrorlist.centos.org has been updated to produce mirror lists for SIG content as well. Some centos-release-* packages have already been modified to use mirrorlist.centos.org instead of mirror.centos.org, but many still point to mirror.centos.org. Most of mirror.centos.org hosts are also used for seeding the 600+ external mirrors we have. By directing some of their download traffic to external mirrors we can offer faster sync speeds for those external mirrors, and for people downloading individual rpms from mirror.centos.org. Second, most of those external mirrors offer faster download speeds to end users than what could be achieved by downloading from mirror.centos.org, so the users will benefit from this change as well. The better geographical coverage does not hurt either. mirror.centos.org nodes are donated servers, and it would be kind to the sponsors to use their bandwidth sparingly. The .repo files should be modified so that the current baseurl line gets commented out and a mirrorlist entry gets added, like this: mirrorlist=http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=$releasever&arch=$basearch… #baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/$contentdir/$releasever/storage/$basearch/gluster-4.1/ Note that mirrorlist.c.o can automatically choose between main and altarch content based on the arch parameter. The repo names are constructed from the repository path by stripping away the architecture and changing any slashes to dashes: sclo/x86_64/rh -> sclo-rh, sclo/x86_64/sclo -> sclo-sclo, paas/x86_64/openshift-origin311 -> paas-openshift-origin311, storage/x86_64/gluster-5 -> storage-gluster-5 etc. You can use 'curl' to check what mirrorlist outputs for your repository. New repos are added to mirrorlist.centos.org automatically once the repository hits mirror.centos.org. That script is currently run every three hours. I guess it could be run more frequently (it's fairly lightweight), but you should give the external mirrors a few hours to sync before announcing your release anyway. You can either submit an update to your current centos-release-* file now, or wait until you need to create a new centos-release-* package for other reasons such as releasing softwarepackage-(version+1) which uses different paths. My recommendation would be to submit an update to your current centos-release-* package, so that you would not need to worry about this when you eventually need to publish a new one for other reasons. We released an updated centos-release package for CentOS AltArch before 7.6.1810 was released for this exact reason, ie. we didn't need to worry about this change at 7.6.1810 release time. Other people (such as bstinson, arrfab and hughesjr) can probably help with creating and publishing an updated centos-release-* package, but the usual tagging procedure to extras will apply. The SIG Guide https://wiki.centos.org/SIGGuide should have all the needed details for this (if not, complain to bstinson). It is highly recommended to actually test your new centos-release-* package from buildlogs before you ask that package to be signed and pushed to extras. The holiday season is fast approaching so (I) don't expect much activity regarding these changes in the following days. I'm hoping that the SIGs would take a look at this in early 2019, though. Suggestion regarding CentOS 8 artwork

We are getting closer to the GA of RHEL 8 and as posted on twitter that they need new artwork it will be great to have the Logo of the same theme. Both Red hat and fedora have a logo of head accessories i.e a hat and a fedora. It will be great to have centOS artwork of a similar kind thats what my suggestion is. python3 version of centos-packager/python-centos

Hi, I'm just curious if there is a python3 version of centos-packager, and python-centos? With python2 nearing end of life and RHEL8/CentOS8 being python3 based, it would be a good time for it to be python3 based. Although, if it's a matter of priorities, I'd prefer CentOS8 being out sooner, versus centos-packager in python3. I was more asking incase there was a version someone was working on that I might be able to test/use.

package missing? nfs-ganesha-utils 2.7.2

hi! we are using CentOS 7.6.1810 and I tried to update all packages including nfs-ganesha.* It seems like all packages for nfs-ganesha are available with version 2.7.2 except nfs-ganesha-utils. why is that? Hi Pablo, Thank you very much for the help. Though I performed the same steps from the wiki link, ( https://wiki.centos.org/SpecialInterestGroup/AltArch/armhfp) for Zynq ZC706 using the uboot files you provided and the generic userland image (also the old version with kernel 4.14), but the device *does not* boot up. The DONE leds on the device does not light up at all. At this point I tried the generic userland image files on also the raspberry pi3b+, even the raspberry *does not* boot up. Although userland image provided for particularly raspberry works as expected and boot into the device. I also see that the userland generic image creates three partitions on the drive, two of which are for boot, which does some procedure to detect the board automatically. I was wondering, if it is possible for you to guide me how I can create single boot partition, using the files you provided. There is high possibility that I am doing something wrong. Call for Presentations, Dojo at DevConf.US, closes May 1

TL;DR: https://wiki.centos.org/Events/Dojo/DevConfUS2019, CFP closes May 1. Event is August 14th in Boston. DevConf.US will be held in Boston, at Boston University, August 15th - 17th. For the second year, we'll be running the CentOS Dojo on the day before - August 14th - as an intimate gathering of CentOS users talking about the interesting things that they're doing on the platform. I need your help, both submitting talks, and recommending speakers, to make this event a success. The details about the event are here: https://wiki.centos.org/Events/Dojo/DevConfUS2019 The details of DevConf.US are at https://devconf.us/ The call for presentations closes on the morning of May 1st. Missing package updates in CloudSIG repos

Is there any synchronization issue or freeze that i'm missing? Note that we are close to new RDO Stein release ( https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=15991) and we'd like to get ready to publish it in the repos as soon as builds are ready and passing CI. Help needed to Install CentOS on Zynq ZC706 ARM cortex A9

I am a begineer in using the Zynq 7000 ZC706 SoC. I have already booted linux made with Yocto project with meta-xilinx and PREEMPT-RT layers. Everything is working as expected. Though we are not satisfied with the real time performance on Scheduler and Latency tests, however alternatively it could be interesting to compare with another OS like CentOS. I have followed the procedure on described here to install CentOS using the rootfs files made with yocto and the files in /boot (boot.bin + UImage + dtb).https://github.com/umiddelb/aarch64/wik ... ch64-board <https://github.com/umiddelb/aarch64/wiki/Install-CentOS-7-on-your-favourite…> But I am not able to successfully create the OS. I am not having a serial communication with the board, so I cant debug further. I will/can only have a SSH communication once the OS boots up. Does anyone guide me how can I take this ahead? git.centos.org migration, please read

As pre-announced a long time ago (see https://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-devel/2018-October/016997.html) , we'll migrate git.centos.org to a new host/platform (pagure/repospanner) The current migration is planned for : April 8th (more details later about the exact hour, as we need to have acknowledgement from all involved people). Instead of writing a long email, we instead decided to put focus on a dedicated page, that will , after migration, replace the current one. - current one : https://wiki.centos.org/Sources - new one : https://wiki.centos.org/Sources_new After migration, we'll rename/swap both pages, to reflect the changes that will go live next monday. As a reminder : we had https://git.stg.centos.org and https://src.stg.fedoraproject.org in "sync" since October, replicating to each other instance. We also got good feedback from CentOS contributors who started to use it to test the new features, including the automatic ACL for protected branches, and some pkgs from CentOS distro were even built through that staging instance , to validate that it was working the way it was designed. So please read that wiki page (https://wiki.centos.org/Sources_new) and we can also add/correct things in that page, based on future feedback. WRT existing repositories : they'll all be imported (already validated) but if you had access (RWC) to a specific project, you'll have *first* to login with your ACO account, and then ask to be added to the ACL, as well as changing the "git remote" url, to point to ssh (all pushes are going through ssh, as previous gitblit/git.centos.org allowed https pushes) PS: while the date is normally April 8th, if there is a chance that we'd need to change that date, we'll post an update in this thread PS2 : Fedora infra is in "freeze" mode , meaning that during our migration, we'll start with only the CentOS branches, and Fedora will import their repositories/branches in the existing repospanner cluster later, and so the Fedora/EPEL branches will then automatically appear on https://git.centos.org -- Fabian Arrotin The CentOS Project | https://www.centos.org gpg key: 56BEC54E | twitter: @arrfab

Hi all, I'd like to contribute to websites belonging to CentOS. How can I start, what's the best way ? One suggestion I have, is to migrate centos.org from nanoc to a python based static site generator for example pelican. best regards, florian
