RDO Zed Released

The RDO community is pleased to announce the general availability of the RDO build for OpenStack Zed for RPM-based distributions, CentOS Stream and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. RDO is suitable for building private, public, and hybrid clouds. Zed is the 26th release from the OpenStack project, which is the work of more than 1,000 contributors from around the world. As with the Upstream release, this release of RDO is dedicated to Ilya Etingof who was an upstream and RDO contributor. The release is already available for CentOS Stream 9 on the CentOS mirror network in: http://mirror.stream.centos.org/SIGs/9-stream/cloud/x86_64/openstack-zed/ The RDO community project curates, packages, builds, tests and maintains a complete OpenStack component set for RHEL and CentOS Stream and is a member of the CentOS Cloud Infrastructure SIG. The Cloud Infrastructure SIG focuses on delivering a great user experience for CentOS users looking to build and maintain their own on-premise, public or hybrid clouds. All work on RDO and on the downstream release, Red Hat OpenStack Platform, is 100% open source, with all code changes going upstream first. The highlights of the broader upstream OpenStack project may be read via https://releases.openstack.org/zed/highlights.html *TripleO in the RDO Zed release:* Since the Xena development cycle, TripleO follows the Independent release model ( https://specs.openstack.org/openstack/tripleo-specs/specs/xena/tripleo-inde… ). You can run RDO on a single node to get a feel for how it works. Finally, for those that don’t have any hardware or physical resources, there’s the OpenStack Global Passport Program. This is a collaborative effort between OpenStack public cloud providers to let you experience the freedom, performance and interoperability of open source infrastructure. We are looking at Fedora's efforts to revamp their logo use rules. * There was a long discussion about recent requests for integration testing that the community can contribute to. * There has been progress on trusting SIGs for secureboot. * We intend to host CentOS Connect at FOSDEM on February 3. The full announcement is blocking on contract processes. Plan on it. * There will be a Distributions Devroom at FOSDEM. Be there. * We're looking into a web+docs hackfest after FOSDEM. Connect at FOSDEM

Going to FOSDEM? Here are three things to know: 1) We will have a CentOS Connect on February 3, the Friday before FOSDEM. I'm waiting on a required legal review of the contract before the full announcement. But I know people are already making travel plans, so please plan on the extra day. 2) There will be a Distributions Devroom at FOSDEM on Sunday. I'm one of the organizers. The CFP will land soon. 3) I'm considering a web+docs hackfest in Brussels, probably just a single day, unless people really want more. For me, it would have to happen the Monday after FOSDEM. We have a lot of web and docs revamp stuff in the air. We won't do it all, but we can make a concrete plan and take home action items. Let me know if you're interested. Alternative Images SIG kickoff

The CentOS Alternative Images SIG is finally official.[1] Time to get things rolling. I have setup an IRC channel #centos-alt-images and a pagure group[2], along with a sig repo[3] to track issues and documentation. I have requested a weekly meeting[4], Tuesdays at 1600 UTC on #centos-meeting. It is currently weekly, but as things get setup we'll slow that down to bi-weekly and possibly monthly. We can also work on a better time, but for now, that's what we have. Everybody is welcome to join and contribute to the SIG. Are CentOS Stream 8 package updates stalled?

I've switched my CentOS Linux 8 workstation to CentOS Stream 8 quite some time ago, and haven't encountered too many issues doing so, but I'm curious as to why there haven't been any package updates that I can see in quite some time (since early October as far as I can see). With the new stream process, my understanding is that for feature and bugfix development, the process is: Git ---> CentOS Stream ---> RHEL (next minor version) But with security updates, it seems to be: Git ---> RHEL (current minor version) ---> RHEL rebuilds (Rocky, Alma, etc) I'm kind of surprised that my firefox and thunderbird builds still seem stuck at 91.13.0, when I've seen updates go by on the RHEL 8 channels with the newer firefox builds, etc. What is the flow for security updates to make it into CentOS Stream package repositories? Is there some documentation describing this that maybe I missed? I don't remember seeing this on the CPE newsletter either. Thanks, Greg

Gauging interest in Discourse

Hi all, You might be aware that there is a CentOS category on the Fedora Discourse instance: https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/c/centos/71 There have been some discussions about having a dedicated Discourse instance for CentOS. Discourse has a lot of advantages, such as better moderation and integration with our accounts system. But I understand that many people are comfortable with their existing workflows. There's no point in running Discourse if it doesn't get enough buy-in. So I'm asking for input on using Discourse for various things: * Project announcements, like events, meetings, and infra changes * Activity reports, such as for SIGs and events * User support, replacing forums.centos.org * Development of Stream itself, basically centos-devel * Development of stuff inside SIGs * Replacement for the comments section of the blog * Alternatively, just replacing the blog entirely * Something else I'm not thinking of Thanks, Shaun McCance CentOS Community Architect Red Hat Open Source Program Office
