Hi, The website theme is being updated to improve content responsiveness and readability, on both large and small screen devices. Your feedback would be very helpful to detect usability issues and consolidate a design that works well for you. forums + portal for {lang}.centos.org sites

Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. If anyone would like to help, please feel free to jump right in. [Storage-SIG]

Hello everyone. We sae ceph released ceph 16.2.14, and we want to upgrade to it. I can see on the build service that the build for el8 was done, but when I check the updates, I do not see any updates to 16.2.14. And if I look at: http://mirror.centos.org/centos-8/8/storage/x86_64/ceph-pacific/Packages/c/, I do not see them as well. Will 16.2.14 be pushed to el8 repos? Thanks, Luis Domingues Proton AG

RDO Bobcat Released The RDO community is pleased to announce the general availability of the RDO build for OpenStack 2023.2 Bobcat for RPM-based distributions, CentOS Stream and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. RDO is suitable for building private, public, and hybrid clouds. Bobcat is the 28th release from the OpenStack project, which is the work of more than 1,000 contributors from around the world. The release is already available for CentOS Stream 9 on the CentOS mirror network in: http://mirror.stream.centos.org/SIGs/9-stream/cloud/x86_64/openstack-bobcat/ The RDO community project curates, packages, builds, tests and maintains a complete OpenStack component set for RHEL and CentOS Stream and is a member of the CentOS Cloud Infrastructure SIG. The Cloud Infrastructure SIG focuses on delivering a great user experience for CentOS users looking to build and maintain their own on-premise, public or hybrid clouds. All work on RDO and on the downstream release, Red Hat OpenStack Platform, is 100% open source, with all code changes going upstream first. The highlights of the broader upstream OpenStack project may be read via https://releases.openstack.org/bobcat/highlights.html but here are some highlights: - New Cinder driver features were added, notably, QoS support for Fujitsu ETERNUS DX driver, replication-enabled consistency groups support for Pure Storage driver, and Active/Active support for NetApp NFS driver. - Glance added support for RBD driver to move images to the trash if they cannot be deleted immediately due to having snapshots. - The Neutron service has enabled the new API policies (RBAC) with system scope and default roles by default. - The Nova legacy quota driver is now deprecated and a nova-manage limits command is provided in order to migrate the orginal limits into Keystone. We plan to change the default quota driver to the unified limits driver in an upcoming release. It is recommended that you begin planning and executing a migration to unified limits as soon as possible. OpenStack Bobcat is not marked as Skip Level Upgrade Release Process or SLURP. According to this model ( https://governance.openstack.org/tc/resolutions/20220210-release-cadence-ad…) this means that upgrades will only be supported from the Antelope 2023.1 release. RDO Bobcat 2023.2 has been built and tested with the recently released Ceph 18.2.0 Reef version (https://docs.ceph.com/en/latest/releases/reef/) which has been published by the CentOS Storage SIG in the official CentOS repositories. *Note:* Follow the instructions in [RDO documentation]( https://www.rdoproject.org/install/install-with-ceph/) to install OpenStack and Ceph services in the same host. During the Bobcat 2023.2 development cycle, the RDO community has implemented automatic dependency detection at run and build time. We expect that these changes will lead to more accurate dependency chains in OpenStack packages and less manual maintenance tasks for community maintainers. [sig-core-t_functional] Failing tests issues and TERM

Hi Johnny, Adam, QA team When I saw the perf test being disabled, I ended up trying out removing the eval to see if that was the issue. I did try to reach out before bringing this change but I got no feedback. I see that yesterday it was disabled again, together with sysstat. What they have in common is the use of `trap` to cleanup files. Is that likely the issue? should I try removing the use of `trap` in all those tests and see if that solves it? Regards, Carlos.

Platform Tools moving bugs from bugzilla.redhat.com to issues.redhat.com

The Red Hat Platform Tools team (who maintain binutils, GCC, gdb, glibc, systemtap, valgrind, etc.) have begun to move bugs from bugzilla.redhat.com to issues.redhat.com, to the project called “RHEL”. We'd appreciate if future issues discovered in CentOS Stream were filed there directly. When filing new issues, please make sure that the Security Level is set to None, so that others can contribute, and select “CentOS Stream” under Projects. Please do not use the public “CS” project for reporting issues in specific RPM packages because we (Platform Tools) do not monitor it. (Compose issues and CentOS Stream issues should still be reported in “CS”.) Community members should be able to create a Red Hat account on sso.redhat.com and use that to login to issues.redhat.com. As far as I know, it's not necessary to agree to the Red Hat Enterprise Agreement, or any subscription terms. If that has changed, please let me know. The user experience should remain largely unchanged, although the underlying technology is completely different (Jira vs Bugzilla). If a bug is migrated, a notification is posted to the Bugzilla bug, with instructions how to find the migrated issue on issues.redhat.com. You will likely have to re-subscribe to the new issue after migration. In the future, logging into issues.redhat.com from time to time (every few weeks or months) will be required to keep receiving notification for your bug subscriptions. Thanks, Florian

working with gitlab / rpm locally

Hi all, sorry if I'm late to the party. I need to touch a package again for a local customization and with the transition to gitlab I wonder how the new process looks like. In the past I used the tools from git.centos.org/centos-git-common.git like get_sources.sh and into_srpm.sh to work locally on packages from git.centos.org/rpms/. The lookaside stuff were here git.centos.org/sources/. So, how does one build a srpm nowadays? Where is the lookaside stuff? A look into https://docs.centos.org/en-US/stream-contrib/ didn't help. BTW, I'm not an fedora dev. So, if the process looks like the fedora one then I have no idea. Any help would be greatly appreciated! -- Thanks in advance, Leon

Chartering the CentOS Technical Steering Committee

Hi Folks, I've filed the following for discussion with the CentOS Board: https://git.centos.org/centos/board/issue/123 I won't re-paste the text of the ticket here, but the overal vision for this group is to evaluate tools we use to build things in the CentOS project, coordinate technical effort among the SIGs, govern certain secure assets (like SIG Secureboot keys), and make recommendations for future technologies to make available in the project. To answer a couple of questions I've had so far: - This group is complementary to (but not replacing) the CentOS Infra SIG which is focused on execution of our technology strategy - Everything written in the description is open for discussion, and I look forward to hashing out some of the finer governance points as we go -- Brian Stinson brian(a)bstinson.com

ISA SIG meeting minutes

This covers the last several meetings, for which I failed to send minutes. Sorries. # zlib-ng We want to replace zlib with zlib-ng (in compat mode) for CentOS 10 Stream. In support of that, it would be interesting to rebuild CentOS 9 Stream with zlib-ng in the buildroot (again, in compat mode). AI: Florian to talk to some folks and see what can be done to support the zlib-ng transition effort. # ISA SIG meeting at FOSDEM I've confirmed internally that there will be some CentOS-related activity in the days before FOSDEM. There could even be a slot in the official schedule for the ISA SIG if we wanted that. # Blog post highlighting Intel work on GCC 13 Previously, in a separate venue, Intel shared their GCC 13 performance work. We wanted to encourage them to write a blog post about it, but it turns out that it already exists: Build Innovation and Performance with GCC* 13 <https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/developer/articles/technical/build-…> # Upcoming AArch64 work. There might be some AArch64 work items in the ISA SIG space in the future (validating a GCC bug fix, and experimenting with LSE atomics now that the Raspberry Pi 5 with support for them has been announced). unplanned outage : community cage network issue

Hi all, this Sunday, our zabbix monitoring platform informed us that there were plenty of nodes unreachable in community cage, and after some investigation it's a whole rack that was cut off access from network switches. That causes issues for multiple workloads, including duffy CI infra env, CentOS Stream env (aka https://testing.stream.centos.org) or storage/mirror servers used for https://cbs.centos.org. As we don't know when the root cause will be investigated by the network team managing the network infra, we have disabled the koji builders, so don't even try to submit builds to cbs.centos.org as they'd just be stuck waiting for builders to be available (themselves disabled until we have access to internal mirror) -- Fabian Arrotin The CentOS Project | https://www.centos.org gpg key: 17F3B7A1 | @arrfab[@fosstodon.org]
