[Feedback request] CentOS website theme readability

Hi, The website theme is being updated to improve content responsiveness and readability, on both large and small screen devices. Your feedback would be very helpful to detect usability issues and consolidate a design that works well for you. forums + portal for {lang}.centos.org sites

Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. If anyone would like to help, please feel free to jump right in. Hi guys. I've never paid much attention towards it - were ARM parts of Qemu always absents in Centos and if yes then: a( why? (Fedora seems to include those) b) is there anything in repos to emulate it? many thanks, L.

Thank you both for the information! I will use that repository. It seems is not yet available on some of the repositories we are using ( on some machines with Alma9): https://repo.almalinux.org/almalinux/9/extras/x86_64/os/Packages/ but this will have to be reported in another mailing list. [Storage-SIG] ceph reef

Hi all. We have upgraded to ceph reef v18.2.1 but only on EL8 centos-release-ceph-reef is available on EL8 but not on EL9, although I can see the packages here: https://mirror.stream.centos.org/SIGs/9-stream/storage/x86_64/ceph-reef/Pac… Is it going to be relased on EL9? Cheers, Álvaro

kickstart module stream has no effect ?

Hi. I have in kickstart: module --name postgresql --stream 15 which seems to cause no errors but further down in %packages: postgresql postgresql-server and Anaconda stops, saying that those are missing. Also with: @postgresql:15/server Anaconda is not happy, saying that "group or modules" is broken. Installation is of Centos 9 latest. Any & all thoughts are much appreciated. many thanks, L.

Hi Team, I am on Rocky linux version 9.1. I have installed the centos-nfv-openvswitch package repo. When I tried to install /upgrade ovn-controller, the latest version I could see was 23.06. But 23.09 is out and probably not available in this repo. Do we have any package repo to get the 23.09 version? Weekly meetings for the Docs SIG

In last week's meeting, the CentOS board voted to formalize the Documentation SIG, with Amy and me as co-chairs. I'd like to start weekly meetings, like we do for the Promo SIG. I don't expect that everybody will make it every week. I've opened a poll to find a good time for everybody. Due to a mandatory network maintenance at the RDU2 (Community Cage) facility/DC, we'll have to power off some CentOS infrastructure components hosted in that DC. Impacted services: - https://cbs.centos.org (impossible to submit any build, nor push to delivery network) - ns1.centos.org - all centos linux / stream 8 / stream 9 release engineering workflow (stream 8/9 can be built but not pushed out, while for the rest, all will be down) - https://git.centos.org - CI infra: - while openshift in aws is self-contained, there will be no way to request duffy nodes for tests - various other services Migration is scheduled for """"Friday November 17th, 1:00 pm UTC time"""". Should we be taking this opportunity to promote and direct CentOS Stream users to the CentOS category on the Fedora Discussion[0] platform? Similar to the Asahi Linux category, we could pitch up sub-topics to filter Project discussion and community support. While instant messaging and email platforms are available, I believe having an easier point of entry for longer lived and easily searchable material is a benefit to the community at large. Letting it passively wither or just outright decommissioning the platform without a similar service is not an ideal situation. Instant messaging is easy to get lost in and lose track of important discussions even with available *in-platform* search, and email is... well I don't think the vast majority of people on the net care for it that much or know how to use it "correctly". KDE Updated in EPEL9

KDE has been updated in EPEL9. Versions: Plasma: 5.27.6 KF5: 5.108 Apps: 23.04.3 Known Issues: - kdepim-addons - Was not updated due to kf5-kitinerary not being updated due to older poplar in RHEL 9. -- The older version of kdepim-addons is not liking the newer libraries. -- Should be fixed this week. - lokalize - Does not install, has never installed. I kept thinking I could get it's dependencies in, but never have. -- I will be removing this package from epel9. Since it was un-installable, this shouldn't affect anyone. Deprecation: We are marking the following packages deprecated. They will not be in epel10. They will continue to be in epel9. - plasma-workspace-x11 - sddm-x11 Troy

status of CentOS Linux 7 usage in centos infra (please read)

Hi all, As we're slowly approaching end of the year, and that 2024 is around the corner, I thought it would be good to discuss remaining centos linux 7 usage in our own infra, and so what to expect (or not). As a reminder, CentOS Linux 7 will go EOL in June 2024 so before that, we should have either decommissioned, or migrated from workload still running on CentOs 7 Here is the list of remaining services and action[s]: # mirrorlist/mirror network It's not a secret that starting from CentOS Stream 9, the default vhost for the mirror network is mirror.stream.centos.org, and the way dnf is configured by default is to use metalink prepared by Mirrormanager (hosted and maintained by Fedora infra team). So that means that : - all nodes behind mirror.centos.org can go away (and content pushed to vault.centos.org, as usual) and eventually (to be discussed) the A/AAAA record for mirror.centos.org completely removed from public DNS - mirrorlist.centos.org will also be decommissioned and so not answering anything anymore (A/AAAA record removed from public DNS too) The potential impact when we'll just decommission mirrorlist.centos.org is for SIGs building for RHEL (and not Stream) 8 and so still relying on mirrorlist= in their shipped .repo. Their plan is to have it in Epel 9 so that they can themselves upgrade and we can then modify our ansible role for mailman and also test a list migration from mailman2 to mailman3. # torrent trackers We used to have torrent files for CentOS releases, but it stopped with CentOS Linux 8 and no .torrent files are produced for Stream artifacts. CentOS Connect 2024

CentOS Connect 2024 will happen February 1-2 in Brussels, Belgium. Connect is the annual CentOS contributor conference, taking place just before FOSDEM. This year, we've expanded to two days, and added space for meetups.
